Thanks for sharing and you are right! If you look a lot of actions and noise, River cruise is not for you but you need to do it in order to explain how you feel whether this cruise is for you or not, because I myself I don’t love it but I like it and now I can compared to my previous Ocean Cruise vs to a River Cruise.
Smooth jazz of the travel world describes it quite well. I never thought of the calm seas you're surely guaranteed on river ships. It appears you're granted some free time to venture around the destinations on your own. I still wonder the ratio between intensive guided tours (which I'm all about) and free time to yourself. Because I've heard you are up super early every morning and it's non-stop. I would love to see a video that goes over the schedules throughout the day and the time you have for various activities on your own as well as with the group and guide.
Fully agree with all your summations. Number 4 strikes a very relevant point for us. My wife suffered bad sea sickness on some ferry trips in the early 1990’s. Accordingly, we avoided any sea journeys for over 25 years. Now been on three river cruises with no issues. She’s now talking positively about undertaking an ocean cruise in the next couple of years. Never thought I would hear her say that (but she insists that we fit in the Douro river before then !).
We took our first river cruise on Viva river cruises in June. For us it was expensive - because my husband is a corporate pilot and gets tons of hotel points. But it was cheap compared to most. We took our 2 boys - 17 and 15. Everyone loved it. The boat was spotless and beautiful, we didn’t have to pack up every couple of days but we got to go to cities and countries even my husband had not been before. And the best part was that I didn’t have to look up places to eat or cook! And also as spoiled Americans we didn’t have to worry about AC and plenty of free water to drink (my youngest chugs water all day long). As you pointed out, all of us appreciated docking right in town. Would love to do it again.
Thanks for the video. We have done two river cruises: the Viking Grand European, and we just finished the Viking Bordeaux cruise and had a wonderful time! Can't wait to try other rivers.
Great video! My wife and I are in our mid-40's and love river cruising. You hit it on the head - River cruising is exactly as relaxing or fast paced as you want, and we LOVE unpacking once. We have done the 2-bag (or more!) drag from train to cab to hotel and all you end up doing is worrying about the logistics and wasting so much time getting from one place to another.
I enjoyed this video! Certainly agree with your 11 reasons why take a river cruise. I have been fortunate enough to have take three river cruises and enjoyed the included excursions to some of the most beautiful places I have seen - one would have to pay lots to go on these excursions on an ocean cruise😟
Thanks for this video - 9 very compelling reasons to river cruise! We're going on a Nile cruise in December - excited for our first river cruise adventure! 😁
@@thelifeofreillytravels Thanks for watching. We’ve got a great couple of Nile videos you might find useful/insightful before your cruise. You’re gonna love it. 😊
I love River cruising in Europe and in the United States. I was so depressed when American Queen Voyages went under. I loved my Mississippi river cruise.
Thank you so much for this lovely cruise narration, we want to go to a similar trip hopefully next May, and seems one week should be sufficient plus couple of days before and after the river cruise . Can you please give more info about the name of the countries and cities this trip covers for 7 days tour? we are three couples in our 70s physically not bad; 2-3 hours daily walking would be okay for us. Can we manage our time accordingly or we have to follow a group from the ship? I appreciate your response.

Very well timed. We’re off to Norwich airport in 8 hours 3am) to flying to Bordeaux for 7 nights on the Dordogne. I’ll let you know if we can add a 12th reason to your list (whoever heard of a list of 11?!)
Have a great time Martin! EVERYONE does lists of ten. To make it better than that, mine 'goes up to eleven' (also a reference to the comedy film Spinal Tap) 😆

I'd love to hear more about river cruising outside of Europe. I've done the Nile like you, and it was amazing.
Richard! What a wonderful, comprehensive and well narrated presentation. Your videography montage of all these scenic vistas is superb. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We really appreciate it! :D
We just returned from Viking’s Budapest to Amsterdam cruise. We loved it and would highly recommend it.
Thanks for watching and for your positive comment 👍

Thank you for watching. I think the mix between organised and 'do it yourself' is very flexible. You can taylor make it to your own preferences. :)

Oh yes, you simply MUST cruise the Douro. It's probably our favourite river so far. :D

Thanks for watching. And yes, hauling around suitcases every five minutes is an effort that's thankfully avoided on a river cruise. :)

Oh gosh yes, the AQ tragedy is just awful. It was one of our most memorable cruises ever!

I would love to cruise the Nile one day…only been on ocean cruises ranging from one week to 21 days but river one seems more immersive and chill
It's a fabulous way to see the Nile and all it's treasures. Highly recommended. :)
