model 9605: DO NOT PANIC @ video time 9:15 when you realize you do not have an idler bracket. It's ok. you dont have to scavenge you 3 acre lot looking for it even though you thought you saw it....No, your dog didnt abscond with the hardware like he did with your wallet 5 yrs ago. Actually, with the model 9605, you dont have an idler bracket....so even if you have already grabbed your keys and put your dogs away for a trip into town to raise a little hell at your local Lowes... it's ok. You have a left rachet assembly instead(just like the right one). This is a good video for that...8x7 door...and bit of a headache for that 9x7 door. nothing a little whiskey cant fix. Cheers mates!

Reading all these comments makes me feel a bit better about myself. Thought I had lost my handy man touch with this gate.
Missing parts, not to mention damages.i had to settle for a damaged one because all the available gates in Lowe's were damaged and I needed to close my garage. Instructions are soo vague and confusing. Instructions for about 5 different models and not the particular one I bought. In short, very dissapointed about this purchase. The video and written instructions are also so different. One almost has to combine the two to get thru.
If you, like me, managed to get this installed, feel very proud of yourself. This wasn't easy.

I just bought the 8000 model and the instructions booklet contains step by step instructions. The packaging looked good with styrofoam strips between panels, however the panel that was at the bottom is damaged due to the strapping. I noticed there was backing inside on one side, but not on the other edge and hence the damage. May be someone at Wayne-Dalton will read my comment to avoid returns due to this. I will be returning this and buying a 9100 instead and installing using this video and the instruction booklet.

Great instruction videos. Just wish the manual was just as good. Parts aren't labeled well, and the manual doesn't provide a decent enough description of parts or how to connect them all. This is also amplified when parts don't line up well enough, leading to drilling extra holes.
I get that the manual was made for those with some knowledge, but it would also be nice if having someone else install this all wasn't so expensive.

I live in Brazil and was in the US last year loading a container to send down with some of the things we wanted from there and wound up buying 3 Wayne Dalton garage doors, the ones with the arched windows called "arched stockton", so a little over a year later I'm starting the installation and upon opening the boxes, I find out they sent all common 2 glass top sections with no arches at all on all 3 doors even though the all the boxes say Arched Stockton on them. The other disgusting things are quality and instructions, horribly generic instructions because of so many models and the lack of quality unbelievable, my parents 25 year old Clopay has this beat hands down. Cant believe I brought all the way from the US!

The instructions that came with my doors, 9605s, were for 8 different models, with small illustrations and a lot of "This may not apply to your model." They were basically useless. My printed instructions showed the tracks being bolted together and didn't even show or mention the quick connect fittings. This video is pretty good, but mine didn't come with the plastic idler pully on the left but with two ratchet gears. Surprise! Mine has two springs, one on each side. I like the doors, affordable, good quality, but accurate instructions would have made my purchase much more satisfying. Providing good, accurate instructions, and providing printed instructions, PDF's, or RUclips videos for EACH model wouldn't take much time or effort Wayne Dalton.

Used the video for 90% of the install and it was good . It goes off the rails when you get to the part where you install the torque master bar . The video and instructions both show this plastic idler and my door didn’t have it . So I went back to Lowe’s and they opened another one for me and I got the idler . Well after about 2 more hours of not being able to get it to function correctly I started looking through the parts and found that there was another ratchet part for the left hand side . But I had to figure that out for myself . Also the part of the video that details adjusting the cables is trash . Only way I was able to get it right finally was to do both cables at the same time . All in all a decent quality door that works well now that it’s installed . Instructions could be better . Could have saved me several hours and a trip to the hardware store if I’d had some better ones .

Instructions leave a lot to be desired for the Wayne Dalton 9100/9605 garage door I purchased from Lowes. In the area I live the wind load kit for the door is mandatory with the installation to pass inspection by the building code people. Installation of this kit is not shown in the you tube video and the kit alters the installation procedure significantly so that you have to search for the details to complete the install. I finally completed the job and am very satisfied with the door but quality instructions would have made it much easier and less time consuming

I just completed a 9100 series installs. I agree with other comments the paper instructions are difficult to follow. The video is very helpful - thank you W-D, most appreciated. My model has the dual spring and while not covered in the video was able to use the video and paper instructions to get that going.
Unfortunately panel 2 (second one from bottom) was damaged. Looks like shipping/packing damage. I had to install the door to secure my contents and am in Alaska so I don’t know how this will get fixed. Purchased from Lowes in Wasilla. I sent an email to W-D yesterday and hope to hear something positive back. I think this one panel can be swapped by locking the others with a vice grip and removing the hinge bolts and entire roller brackets. (Torx socket for that). I believe this door is a good value. I like the design and love the ease of setting spring tension. I may make a video on my channel going over the install as an overview to bring it together. I’ve installed many overhead doors as a DIYer. This design is different and I think that is what Is throwing people off. If W-D would put stickers that are lettered or numbered on the rails and parts it would make it go way faster. I admit confusion between looking at the parts and trying to confirm left/right etc. I’m otherwise very happy with it and hope something can be done about the damaged panel.

WE did not have any idle brackets which was confusing. My husband had figure it out differently. Also missing were 5/16 carriage bolts, which he had to get elsewhere. It is a nice door, seems to be a good quality, and lowes provided good delivery. If you are not handy with this type of work, you probably should get it installed by professionals.

I did as video said right side first 1 1/2 turns tighten set screw - wrap excess wire-Then I go over to do the left side (which the video DOESNT SHOW 1 GUY doing it by himself) as like the right side - ends up being either 2 1/2 - 3 turns- the wire is all undone -having to restart the whole thing over again. If you got a door with 2 springs, and a spring tensioner on both sides (no idler pulley). To put tension on the doors: You need to put equal turns in on each side. And they crank in opposite directions. (left was clockwise, right was counter clockwise). Put a straight line mark with a sharpie on the socket and count turns. The number of turns in the manual was correct for my door. But needs to be put in on both sides. I don't know why this video could not have been 20 seconds longer to cover doors with 2 springs.

The two springs set independently from one another so even if u out a full 16 turns on one side you can still go over to the other side, loosen the set screw, pull the excess cable out, retighten the set screw and tension that side
Edit: if it’s a small door and only has one spring, I suggest either starting on the left side (no spring) and then moving over to the right. Hut be careful that the left side cable is still in the proper groove when you start tensioning. Another option is to start on the right but instead of tensioning it to hold it in place, simply lock the gear mechanism by flipping down the little lever. This will also prevent the tube from rotating. Then proceed to the left side, align that one, and flip the lever back up when you’re ready to tension the spring

Can I use my original rails and torsion spring and just replace the panels on this door?

No ,flag brackets made for torque Master not standard torsion , or extension springs.. and remember bearings don't last a lifetime

Thanks, I have never seen a torsion spring like this before and not familiar with this set up. I was hoping to use my old torsion springs and rails. It’s look like a lot of plastic part that can break over time with this new system.

It is recommended to only use the hardware provided with your garage door purchase to prevent operational issues and potential damage to the door. Our TorqueMaster Plus is exclusive to Wayne Dalton and is intended to aid the installation experience.

@@hd94vett yes you’re absolutely right. They are a bunch of plastic parts that sometimes break before you even get them installed lol. This system is designed for ease of use. But if longevity and quality are what you’re concerned about you’re better off going with another model from Wayne Dalton (like the 6600 series). Those will come with you standard track and torsion springs. Will need an actual garage door installer to hang the doors for you (springs are dangerous!) but the door will last longer. Provided you give it the proper annual maintenance of course. Hope this helps!

      @hd94vett 3 года назад

Thanks Roberto, The HOA decided that this is the only door they will allow us to put up. I will ask about the the other model the 6600 you mentioned.

I will never buy another wayne dalton door. Styrofoam door panels with an aluminum foil skin glued on the outside and heavy cardboard skin on the inside. If you wipe the inside panels the paint will come off. But, this video helped my get it installed. So that's something.

The best thing you can do with flimsy Wayne Dalton garage doors is not buy them at all. I have two, professionally installed. They, from day one have creaked and rattled going up and down. The bottom weather seal if damaged is next to impossible to replace without removing the complete panel. The too small torsion springs are difficult to identify then source plus too expensive when they fail in 4-6 years. Did I say I don't like these door? You bet I don't

Waited 4 months after ordering from Lowes, Wayne Dalton waited until delivery date to notify Lowes my residence was just out of their delivery range and canceled my order after 4 months. In that time door prices almost doubled. Now I wait for 4 more months to get a door. Hope this company fails.

WARNING: i wasted an entire day looking for that small grey plastic piece they put on left side of spring tube- IT DOES NOT EXIST. If you bought the standard 9100 model that piece is not a part of the set, that is only relevant fro "single spring tubes" and the 9100 is a "double spring". What an infuriating thing not to mention, or else some how i missed it.

Don't even bother to try to install these doors. Just getting the door will take you 6 to 8 months then if your like us it will have damage in our case the top of the door was bent in where it comes together on the panel below it. The spring tube right side was smashed down also. The instructions are the worst I have ever seen if you think Ikea is bad just wait. Finally got the door put in that was the easy part and can't wind the left spring because that is broken or stuck or faulty something. Lowes sells these doors and I thought why would I pay 2 times the price of the door to get it installed. Well now I know. All my venting aside the door itself seems very nice and it glides like a dream I just wish any of it worked.

Wayne-Dalton is by far the cheapest piece of garbage on the garage door market today. There are no metal backing plates behind the inside skin when attaching the hinges. This torque-master spring assembly is a joke, The wire gauge isn't much thicker than a wire coat hanger. All sorts of plastic parts with cheap thin cable. Lucky to get five years use before it has to be replaced. There is a reason the are so inexpensive. You get what you pay for. My door distributor even carries a torque-master conversion kit that uses a real industry standard torsion spring system. I replace, on average, at least 3 of these junk spring systems each week, with the proliferation of new homes being built by a certain national contractor, with these doors installed, because they are so cheap. If you accidentally use your automatic opener on these doors with a broken spring, it rips that opener bracket right off the top of the door and usually damages the section by creasing it in the center or breaking the windows. Seen it hundreds of times. Go with a Clopay or C.H.I. garage door. you will be much happier. This comes from a professional with over 40 years experience.
