Look at the rest of that road. There aren't any places I can see that get you back to civilization without more fear factor. I say he went down that road to where he stopped.
He might of started going up it rather than down. He was already past the majority of switchbacks. The rest of the road is flat at the bottom. The sketchiest part is from the top if you have a fear of heights.
I'm way late to this video... new subscriber and binging my way through your old content. Man, this really highlighted the incredible views of that area. Getting to work in that kind of scenery I don't think I could call work! Great job!
Never apologize for being who you are. You are a self taught engineer who figures things out in the moment. They used to call it common sense before it became uncommon. I have always been into this sort of thing like building what I need. Cool channel, the presentation will improve with practice. I like this. That edge was a little spooky.
Speeding up the video going up and down that damn canyon was unbelievable...made me pucker up!!! lol Great to have a crazy man like you in the area to haul all the problems out of the difficult terrain....
I sure don't see anything wrong with how you do your thing and really don't see where I would do it different. I would probably feel guilty to get paid to do it. That is amazing content thanks for sharing. That's also crazy how that rig handles the highway.😁
Guys like you are real life Superheroes! Risking life and limb to save or recover people and their vehicles, I know you get paid but also seems like you really enjoy it, and what an idiot leaving the forks locked in the middle of nowhere? Either way you kicked its ass! Great work!
I'm very glad to know you offer this service for adventure bikes. I'll have your number with me when I come there. I like the extra care you took not to damage the bike. I wondered why you had to travel back out the same way, until I looked at that road. YIKES!
I’m sure he went back up the trail to get back to his trailer faster. If he had kept going down he would of had to drive all the way back around into Canyon-lands National Park. Shafer trail turns into potash road which will take you back into Moab. He must of had to leave his Trailer in a specific place as there is no parking spaces near the shafer trail entrance.
The view is unbelievably beautiful. Scary, awesome though. Nice haul. I like your emergency lights, never seen them working. BTW that biker who passed you while working, could have stopped for a second. I would have as a biker.
Rory, thank you for taking us along for the ride and explaining things as you go. Like me, it seems you are most often riding solo. A couple of inexpensive bits of camera gear I have found helpful are the Telesin Tracker and the GravGrip . I think both of them would assist you in your filming. The Telesin doesn't need to see your face to track you. I use mine outside without issues. With the GravGrip you can quickly switch the GoPro / Phone from filming away from you to filming you with the simple 180 deg. rotation of the handle. I really appreciate the lack of bad language and the warning when there is. I just skip those one. :-)
I first learned about you from a Heavy D video and you are no joke my brother!!! Some of the terrain you ride is absolutely insane , the video hauling that side by side on a trailer crawling rocks is truly amazing. Love the videos and the realness to it !!
just started watching your channel and think you are incredible at what you do. I love the recovery shows. I hate being one of "these" guys, but, it's best to transport the bike if possible, with out the side stand down. It could "apparently" cause damage to either the stand or the frame mounts. It will also limit the bikes own suspension while being trailered. Love the way you pulled both tie downs forward, by the way. I see a lot people trailering with the rear ones pulling rearward. I hope you aren't offended by my comments.
Cool 2 videos in one day. Good idea to tow your Wrecker. Really enjoy your videos something a little bit different. Hello from Southwest England 🏴
Another nice recovery Rory, I think maybe you've done this kind of stuff before PML. I wouldn't fancy that road on a bike, especially going down hill with all those loose small bits of stone or rock on the road. One false move and your over the side. Someone with a lot more need for an adrenalin rush than I rode that bike down there, in fact two or three bikes passed you on that road. Keep on pulling them out as it pleases me to watch you along with Trail Mater and your skills do these off road recoveries.
They moved the entrance booth to the state park. You used to be able to start from the Potash side and go up the switchbacks and out without any issue. Now they make you pay the park entrance fee when you get to the top of the switchbacks.
Rory, all is good. It was not an audio problem. Eccentric (and people of high intelligence) often speak out loud and with low volume to themselves while working out issues. We believe in you!
Cool idea filming the switchbacks and editing it to be at high speed going down into that incredible canyon! It was captivating and almost scary to watch!! Woo hoo!
another bonus of bring the rig on a trailer to the trail its one less thing to worry about if you have a break down you already have the trailer and truck
Got the LIKE and the LOVE from you Rory... I used to do a bunch of off road miles servicing radio repeater sites but nothing like you do my friend... Hats off to you Buddy....
Started following you after watching Matts off Road and Fab Rats. That wrecker is awesome i am sure it will go anywhere. Loved the side by side recovery truly awesome and pulling a trailer. !! I live in the UK and have been to Moab three times always stay at the Redstone Inn. I have driven a Chevy Tahoe up the Shafer Trail from the Potash Road. Glad i did not meet you coming the other way.! Maybe i will try a Rzr rental next time. Now i am subscribed i will just keep watching.
Beautiful country out there my dude, that dirt road reminds me of the gravel roads in the high north up here... meant for horses... but you know... somewhat drivable ha. Neat to see a motorbike recovery.
The kind of trail you will NEVER have to rescue me from... I was getting anxious just watching the video... and that narrow goat trail is 2-way traffic... WOW
Your channel is VERY addicting! I love it when you clean the carbon out of that big block. And also lug it down. She has a very nice voice. Your doing an awesome job, excellent content. Please be safe…. 😁
Hear videos go to show that you don't need 15 people. Three vehicles to go rescue one motorcycle you do a good job just on your own. I hope you stay that way without the fanfare of going Hollywood on us. Good stuff. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦🏍️
ah, wow, I saw that road when we visited Canyonlands pre-pandemic. I *so* wanted to go down there, and spend a whole day driving around the rim road, but we just didn't have a whole day cut out from our trip to do thatm, we were trailer-camping at Dead Horse Point SP, etc etc.. What gorgeous geology!!
We have roads a 'bit' like that in NZ, but none with that much exposure that I can think of. What might be different for us is that it can rain a lot (our record for 24 hours is a fraction under 30") so the roads get washed out. All the same, I don't think I could driven that trail.
That would drive me nuts having steering wheel so off … I want to know how these switch backs work with an incoming vehicle I don’t see anyplace to move over or pull over… love your videos!!!
So nice! ...... I will come visit soon ...... your videos are so inspiring! ..... Soon I hope to do the film ....... edit the film ........ and well ..... we'll see where my adventures lead me.
when lifting bikes we used a hammock, just throw it under the engine guard and lift. I can't say if it is better than your method, its just how we did it when I worked on a sweeper truck in the rally.
Schafer is so fun on bike. Like a thousand vertical feet of church. You go under the road above without any tunnel. Nice camera work. I experienced a flat tire on my mountain bike 200 feet down from that corner. Wish I was kidding.
I used to own one of these bikes and was instructed on proper tiedown procedure. You never attach an open hook type strap to any part of the bike that is held up by the suspension. A sudden stop or a big bump could possibly compress the suspension even more and allow a strap hook to come off and that would be a very expensive no-no. The best way to strap down the bike is across the front fork brace. That way the suspension is totally out of the picture.
Your videos are awesome. Ya gotta save the wear and tear on your “Specialty Rig” so it’s good for more and more recoveries. A smart man knows it. Not watching any more Shafer Trails videos. Can’t handle the heights. Had to look away when ya started down. Even on video.
Whew... What a ride, I admire a man who can just kicker outa gear on a road like that AND let'er rip! 😂🤣 I was on a road like that, over by the Goose Necks, yep great fun!
20:40, priceless to see the infamous KLR 650 come rolling by the scene of a busted BMW.
I wouldn’t trade my KLR for two BMWs. Riding down there from CO mid-April to mid-May.
100 bucks says he didn't have running issues...he got scared, started quivering and fell off and needed a ride back in a truck. Good recovery job!
I'm with you, those street tires he had on the bike, must have made for an interesting ride down.
We can only suggest what we would do in a similar situation... your opinion says everything about you and nothing about the actual events 🤔
OP is projecting his own fears
I'm way late to this video... new subscriber and binging my way through your old content. Man, this really highlighted the incredible views of that area. Getting to work in that kind of scenery I don't think I could call work! Great job!

8:52 that profile of the rock behind you looks like a face. Beautiful scenery and trails! Thanks for sharing your work
Speeding up the video going up and down that damn canyon was unbelievable...made me pucker up!!! lol Great to have a crazy man like you in the area to haul all the problems out of the difficult terrain....
Master at work, spreading knowledge, and stuff, liberally like peanut butter on bread. Rory deserves cred! Teaches something new every time.
One of the most beautiful road recovery locations, breathtaking 😊
Awesome! You will always be remembered on RUclips for you extreme off-roading and your white shoes with Velcro straps. Great job!!
Man, you do have yourself some Wile E Coyote terrain out there!
I sure don't see anything wrong with how you do your thing and really don't see where I would do it different. I would probably feel guilty to get paid to do it. That is amazing content thanks for sharing. That's also crazy how that rig handles the highway.😁
What he doing wrong....I am not with him to tell him what right......and left lol
Guys like you are real life Superheroes! Risking life and limb to save or recover people and their vehicles, I know you get paid but also seems like you really enjoy it, and what an idiot leaving the forks locked in the middle of nowhere? Either way you kicked its ass! Great work!
WOW! Thank You for taking us along for the ride! Scary roads, beautiful country, and interesting recoveries. Oh, and so much fun to watch.
I'm very glad to know you offer this service for adventure bikes. I'll have your number with me when I come there. I like the extra care you took not to damage the bike. I wondered why you had to travel back out the same way, until I looked at that road. YIKES!

I must say... I'm not afraid of heights or cliff sides, but watching the video going down the switchbacks in fast speed was a bit freaky!!! lol
Rory, thank you for taking us along for the ride and explaining things as you go. Like me, it seems you are most often riding solo. What beautiful scenery! Wish we had trails like that in West Australia.
Shafer Trail is probably my favorite trail in Moab. I've only done it on my KLR-650 (4 or 5 times), and hope to do it in the Jeep soon.
Wow, so you not only recover Jeeps, trucks, tour buses, etc...but motorcycles too?! #respect
I first learned about you from a Heavy D video and you are no joke my brother!!! Some of the terrain you ride is absolutely insane , the video hauling that side by side on a trailer crawling rocks is truly amazing. Love the videos and the realness to it !!
All good, makes sense, good recovery, great video, and thanks for sharing your kind of adventures, that I may never do myself!
Great video. You seem to be getting more comfortable videoing. The tripod works very good so we can watch as you do the recovery’s.👌👍
just started watching your channel and think you are incredible at what you do. I love the recovery shows. I totally did not expect that scenery. Absolutely insane and a great video as always. Keep up the good work!
That trail will keep you on your toes. Great job.
Everytime I‘m on the Shafer Trail it feels like rush hour traffic. Not for you Rory, you had it almost to yourself. Thanks for the video.
Another nice recovery!!! Good to see a pro at work.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hey man, great recovery job, the landscapes at your place are absolutely beautiful, well done :-)
Cool 2 videos in one day. Good idea to tow your Wrecker. Really enjoy your videos something a little bit different.
Hello from Southwest England 🏴
Nice recovery, beautiful scenery. Wish I could have gone along with you. Thanks for sharing.
That's a Hell NO hill for me! I love the rock face profile while you're hooking up the bike!
Wow!! I just got vertigo watching this on my laptop. What an incredible view.
Working solo. That is a long switchback. Some scenery. :-) Mater is louder today. My recliner shook each time you started her!!! LOL
Excellent video and thanks for doing them, just watching you working with trailmater to recover things is beautiful.
Another nice recovery Rory, I think maybe you've done this kind of stuff before PML. Wow! What a beautiful place to work! I gotta check out that trail next time I'm in Moab. Thanks for sharing your adventure/recovery!
They moved the entrance booth to the state park. You used to be able to start from the Potash side and go up the switchbacks and out without any issue. Now they make you pay the park entrance fee when you get to the top of the switchbacks.
@@Gizmo42Rodeo we drove that road ten days ago and did not have to pay anything.
Doesn't look like much room to meet another vehicle.
Great views! Thanks for sharing.
It's plenty wide enough for 2 vehicles to pass.
This MAN AND TRUCK there’s nothing but impressive It would be safe to say that he is at the top of his profession
I drove that trail for the first time on my third Moab trip. Talk about scenic.
You coming down that road with that bike behind you scared the socks off of me
Oh great, another channel to binge watch for hours on end ;)
Rory, all is good. It was not an audio problem. Eccentric (and people of high intelligence) often speak out loud and with low volume to themselves while working out issues. We believe in you!

another bonus of bring the rig on a trailer to the trail its one less thing to worry about if you have a break down you already have the trailer and truck
This reminded me of the hiway of death on Icetruckers and Top Gear in Bolivia. I am finished with that kind of adventure.
I have driven a Chevy Tahoe up the Shafer

Wow new to channel, awesome view. An amazing wild ride true craftsman to your trade. Thanks

Your doing an awesome job, excellent content.
Please be safe…. 😁
The rig is a beast!....You, are a boss!
Nice recovery, makes it harder with the steering locked. Maybe they could've hidden the key under a rock.
We love that trail, my wife and i have rode it several times two up on our Klr. We've done the White rim trail and the Alpine loop in Colorado.
Hear videos go to show that you don't need 15 people. Three vehicles to go rescue one motorcycle you do a good job just on your own. I hope you stay that way without the fanfare of going Hollywood on us. Good stuff. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦🏍️
I've been on that road a couple of times. GORGEOUS area. A BMW motorcycle not running right... now there's a surprise (note: sarcasm).
Wow, beautiful country! Another job well done. Thank you Robert
your day to day workplace views are quite stunning hope you never get tired of them, stay safe
Your abilities are truly unbelievable. Good job
nice job. I love seeing the landscape. Nice you show that as well as just the drive
Your Work, your film crew, and your beauty truck are awesome, all the Best
Great views and great Job. Thanks for shearing .
My god had to slow down the video speed cause you driving down to the bike scared the heck out of me😬😬 😍
Beautiful scenery

That is gods country my man!! Makes me want to jump in my 4 runner and head that way!!!
Love watching your channel, keep it up.
This one is my favorite so far. Nice job.
Wow ! What a Trail ,what a Look around !
Whoo, those switchbacks made me nervous!
You have some fantastic views , it's a beautiful office you have there
That's alot of work, in th emiddle of no were, and we got ot see you do it, thanks!
That place looks fricken awesome!! Thanks for the content

So nice!
I love that purpose-built trailer of yours, an excellent companion to the Holme Wrecker 🤭🤭🤭 ... err ... Trail Mater 😊😊😊
Schafer is so fun on bike. Like a thousand vertical feet of church. You go under the road above without any tunnel. Nice camera work. I experienced a flat tire on my mountain bike 200 feet down from that corner. Wish I was kidding.
nice work! it's good to put the kickstand up. sometimes they can bend when hauling.
On Shaffer Trail last year. Loved it

OH MY GOSH!!! What a road.
So beautiful out there.
That's a gnarly road
Great area mac would be proud

Makes sense to me to use the truck and trailer, gotta be more comfy!!
Appreciate the video.
Whew... What a ride, I admire a man who can just kicker outa gear on a road like that AND let'er rip! 😂🤣
I was on a road like that, over by the Goose Necks, yep great fun!
Another Great Recovery!
Cant wait to go to Utah its so beautiful. Jeeps broke so it will be a little bet
Nice view from your office window.
No FREAKIN WAY! That trail is horrific!!😰
Another fun day at the office
👍
The microphones that would be best for your type of stuff are hella expensive
That is such a slick set-up!
Mad Max would be proud!
I have acrophobia really bad, and I had to pause the video and go smoke a cigarette about three times when I watched this video.
Just started watching the video, going down that switch back reminded me of Mr Toads ride at Disneyland lol.
