    Thank you for doing these videos, I work in a coffee shop with 5 deaf people come in and it's nice to be able to talk to them instead of trying to guess or asking them to write on a piece of paper. It makes me happy that I can speak and have a conversation with them and it also makes them happy aswell. I am literally loving learning so thank you :)

    I think it's amazing that the sign for "nice" is looking like the gesture of threatening to kill somebody which is commonly used by non deaf or mute people. So many possibilities to confuse people :)

    Omg I could spend time to learn these, because I already "speak with my hands" so I could speak sign language while speaking🤔 sorry bad English xd

      @@oOISekaIOo very look up the BSL alphabet vs the ASL alphabet ASL is geared more to one hand however BSL primarily uses two

    I saw the sign for 'show' and was like "that doesn't look right... let me look it up in the bsl dictionary". Cue the realisation that I've been watching WAAAAY to many ASL videos and everything's muddled now.

    Love all of your videos. Thank you so much for giving us an insight into this beautiful language and taking the time to do so. We really appreciate it. Would it be possible please to have a video about linking words and phrases together? Such as because, I think, this, that, the other, why, I think I know, I understand, I don't think etc. Also, what is the sign phrase for journalist, editor, magazine, vet and veterinary nurse? Thanks so much xxxx

    Interesting! I have been learning signing here in Canada off and on for a while - and plan to buckle down on it now, thanks to you reigniting my interest (I'm not deaf, just fascinated, and it's so exciting to be able to communicate with people) - and I'm noticing quite a difference between British and American (which Canada has adopted). I'm thinking I'm going to start mixing the two up... uh-oh! :D

    Wait so is sign language where thumbs up and 👌 come from, or was it the other way around? That's awesome, and I really love the more-most progressions, it makes so much sense and is so easy to understand (bringing out the language nerd in me for sure XD haven't been this excited since learning hangeul ^^)

    • @EthanfromEngland-
      @EthanfromEngland- 4 года назад +3

      Its likely people have been doing thumbs up for a looooooong time but definitely hundreds of years before sign language was even a thing. What would become BSL was started in the late 18th century and BSL was only recognised as a language in 2003...So, to answer your question the "Thumbs up" was around way before sign language.

    for the signs that you do with one hand, do they specifically need to be done on the right hand? or is it just dependant on what hand you use most

    hello, um quick question does it matter which hand does the "movement" part of signing?

    • @morganphillips6779
      @morganphillips6779 5 лет назад

      depends on what hand you write with. if you a re left handed you sign predominately with you left and vice versa with you right. If you are right handed, mirror what she does in the video

    • @Anonymous-ew7ic
      @Anonymous-ew7ic 4 года назад

      Apple Joos It doesn’t matter as in you get it wrong. Use your hand u use for writing because it will feel more comfortable

  • @bea6219
    @bea6219 4 года назад

    Are the facial expressions important when signing? I'm learning to sign when I move to uni in September, as a girl in my accommodation is deaf and it would be nice to communicate

    • @MonaMinetteAnimation
      @MonaMinetteAnimation 3 года назад

      I'm still learning as well, but they do seem important. For example when asking a question you should tilt your head and raise your eyebrows so that the person knows it's a question. Sometimes lip movement is also important because some signs could have two or more meanings so the lip movement and/or facial expression helps to show which word you're actually signing. When we speak we use tone to help provide clarity and facial expressions do the same in SL :)

  • @zanzan1284
    @zanzan1284 6 лет назад

    This is probably a silly question, but does it matter which hand you use? I'm left handed, so it felt more comfortable/natural to mirror what you were doing, but I was afraid that would change the meaning. I wouldn't want to accidentally offend someone or otherwise make a complete a** of myself.
    Thanks!

    • @emie_2682
      @emie_2682 5 лет назад

      I'm really late, so you probably have an answer, but it doesn't matter which hand. Most signers use their dominant hand

      TuxedoElf if you understood deaf culture, you would know what i mean. There is a big difference between SSE and BSL and she is using SSE. Plus the hand-shape is wrong, everything is wrong! If you want to learn proper BSL go to deaf clubs ( free) or ask deaf people who can actually sign.

      Kim Seymour whats the point in learning these words when the majority of them are wrong, ur wasting ur time.
