Thank you for doing these videos, I work in a coffee shop with 5 deaf people come in and it's nice to be able to talk to them instead of trying to guess or asking them to write on a piece of paper. It makes me happy that I can speak and have a conversation with them and it also makes them happy aswell. I am literally loving learning so thank you :)
So happy is being helpful! x
I think it's amazing that the sign for "nice" is looking like the gesture of threatening to kill somebody which is commonly used by non deaf or mute people. So many possibilities to confuse people :)
I wonder how many deaf people have unwittingly started fights by being friendly lol
Omg I could spend time to learn these, because I already "speak with my hands" so I could speak sign language while speaking🤔 sorry bad English xd
I'm taking ASL in school and I really like seeing the comparisons between the two
sammy may brown I think the differences are similar to a British accent/ vernacular verses and American one.
how different are they?
@@oOISekaIOo very look up the BSL alphabet vs the ASL alphabet ASL is geared more to one hand however BSL primarily uses two
I started to learn sign language today, i met a girl in fb, in july we will meet first time, i realy want to learn at least basics for her😍🙏thank you soo much dear for this amazing video
I saw the sign for 'show' and was like "that doesn't look right... let me look it up in the bsl dictionary". Cue the realisation that I've been watching WAAAAY to many ASL videos and everything's muddled now.
YES! Thank you A LOT for this playlist! I was wondering whether you had created one and I just found out you did :) I want to learn BSL for future jobs opportunities, it's so fascinating and with you now it's fun too!
Please keep making these videos! Very useful for me personally, though I do have to watch them through a few times to pick it all up. I'm also a teacher and I've used what I've learnt in your tutorials to teach my students :)
Thank U so much ! Your tutorials are Wonderful !
Wow! I could use some of these signs to describe this video (only the good ones, of course :P) - thank you!
Love all of your videos. Thank you so much for giving us an insight into this beautiful language and taking the time to do so. We really appreciate it. Would it be possible please to have a video about linking words and phrases together? Such as because, I think, this, that, the other, why, I think I know, I understand, I don't think etc. Also, what is the sign phrase for journalist, editor, magazine, vet and veterinary nurse? Thanks so much xxxx
I didnt expect BSL to be so different from ASL but wOAH XD
neat! thanks for this video!
thank for very practical and easy to understand
Is anyone on here fluent? I nearly am and this is the only channel that I could find that shows everything!
Attempting to teach myself and my son of ( 6 months) sign never had so much fun
i just want 2 say thank u 4 these videos i'm autistic and go non-verbal sometimes and i'm using these videos 2 help me learn sign language 4 when i can't speak :)
great signs, :) would be okay to teach us how to learn the 5Ws. thank you :) im learning sooooo much i love it.
Interesting! I have been learning signing here in Canada off and on for a while - and plan to buckle down on it now, thanks to you reigniting my interest (I'm not deaf, just fascinated, and it's so exciting to be able to communicate with people) - and I'm noticing quite a difference between British and American (which Canada has adopted). I'm thinking I'm going to start mixing the two up... uh-oh! :D
how's your journey going? I hear sign language is great for developing your mental rotation skills.
THANK YOU.
I’m currently taking an ASL class and it’s crazy how some signs are so different
Please do a video on verbs! It would be much appreciated 😁
notif squad
Here I am learning some words, but I dont even know if they apply in my country
I love learning British sign language I can finger spell and can
hi love you so much but do you think you could do a video on signing conversation phrases like hello how are you and can you hear okay my friend is getting hearing problems and I want to help xx
Wait so is sign language where thumbs up and 👌 come from, or was it the other way around? That's awesome, and I really love the more-most progressions, it makes so much sense and is so easy to understand (bringing out the language nerd in me for sure XD haven't been this excited since learning hangeul ^^)
Its likely people have been doing thumbs up for a looooooong time but definitely hundreds of years before sign language was even a thing. What would become BSL was started in the late 18th century and BSL was only recognised as a language in 2003...So, to answer your question the "Thumbs up" was around way before sign language.
for the signs that you do with one hand, do they specifically need to be done on the right hand? or is it just dependant on what hand you use most
Is this a regional variation, because there’s a few I’ve noticed that are different to ones I’ve seen on Commanding Hands… yours seem a lot more camp 🤩
1- i can hear the accent through the signing and 2- its crazy that a sign in asl is completely different for bsl
Lots of regionally different signs to London dialect
hey Jessica nicely done know all the sign half we don't use up here an half we do.... very clear signs great education video,,,, very enjoyable........>

hi emma nice to meet you
And you! Sorry - I don't think I meant to make a comment here but on ipad it's very easy to mis-click.
I love learning sign language. I’m learning BSL though these videos but as I’m from North America it would be useful for me to know ASL as well. Does anyone know of any RUclips channels that teach ASL?
Maxwell Jones thedailysign is a great channel for ASL
Darn i need ASL... oh well
I need to understand why you sign 'please/thankyou' for 'same' and not just bring your two index fingers together as other BSL signers do?
hello, um quick question does it matter which hand does the "movement" part of signing?
depends on what hand you write with. if you a re left handed you sign predominately with you left and vice versa with you right. If you are right handed, mirror what she does in the video
Apple Joos It doesn’t matter as in you get it wrong. Use your hand u use for writing because it will feel more comfortable
Are the facial expressions important when signing? I'm learning to sign when I move to uni in September, as a girl in my accommodation is deaf and it would be nice to communicate
I'm still learning as well, but they do seem important. For example when asking a question you should tilt your head and raise your eyebrows so that the person knows it's a question. Sometimes lip movement is also important because some signs could have two or more meanings so the lip movement and/or facial expression helps to show which word you're actually signing. When we speak we use tone to help provide clarity and facial expressions do the same in SL :)
This is probably a silly question, but does it matter which hand you use? I'm left handed, so it felt more comfortable/natural to mirror what you were doing, but I was afraid that would change the meaning. I wouldn't want to accidentally offend someone or otherwise make a complete a** of myself.
Thanks!
I'm really late, so you probably have an answer, but it doesn't matter which hand. Most signers use their dominant hand
This may sound silly but can you use this sign in the London region
yes, BSL is british sign language which is used in the UK
joe root most of these will be very similar or the same in London, I noticed a couple of the signs are different to the North East. Signs are regional but the majority are the same.
Amy Martin thank you 😊
That makes sense, thank you for the clarification!
I want to know which words are different in asl and esl and which are the same
Bsl*
?
i was wondering why these weren’t what i was taught. it’s not asl it’s bsl
was there supposed to be a link at the end? that was awkward to stare at haha
There was a link to her playlist of some other BSL videos, but sometimes it doesn't show up on mobile...
Bucherviews oh ok thanks I was on mobile haha
I am an Indian I learned ASL in the motive to help people then realized sign language in India(ISL) is similar to BSL. I feel stupid now
important and toilet look the same
'Toilet' should be more like your index finger on the side of your palm, and 'important' more like your index finger on your palm
u r gr8 but can u slow down plz
Umm the sign for nice is misleading
Oh no this is BSL
It’s not BSL it’s SSE. PLEASE STOP TEACHING SIGN LANGUAGE!!!
jenny tye these videos are fascinating and educational. Why would you want her to stop?!
It’s a useful way to learn basic words when classes are too expensive.
TuxedoElf if you understood deaf culture, you would know what i mean. There is a big difference between SSE and BSL and she is using SSE. Plus the hand-shape is wrong, everything is wrong! If you want to learn proper BSL go to deaf clubs ( free) or ask deaf people who can actually sign.
Kim Seymour whats the point in learning these words when the majority of them are wrong, ur wasting ur time.
