  • The movie is long but does not feel it, epic drama, and a very surprising ending to this one.

Not sure, but I think the school house was existing.
David Lean was devastated by the reaction from US critics. I don't think he realized the explosive political mix he created in 68.

I guess theres this story about him and his love making scene with sarah miles, he was so uncomfortable about it she had to grab him down there to get him in the mood for it...lol....true story.

He didn't speak of Christopher Jones' part as Major Doryan. Why?

Actually did mention the British soldier and show his picture.

Don't get me wrong, loved the movie enough to buy it. But a great example of really poor judgment and giving up too much for too little. Rose went after the schoolteacher, she went to his schoolhouse to offer romance. Well girlfriend, be careful what you wish for etc.... Now she is bored out of her mind. She does not count her blessings as the priest encouraged her to do: good husband, good living in a nice house, her own saddle horse, nice clothes, good position in the community. I detest violence towards women but I understood the priest going upside her head. Actually loved the scene when the priest grabs 2 of the punks tormenting the village wretch by grabbing their ears and they were not trying to break loose.
I don't believe in spoilers in a film that is 30 plus years old. Choosing a British soldier for a lover was the worst possible choice in occupied Ireland. If she had an affair with the leader of a satanic cult she would not have been so reviled.

@@JessicaMcGowan-bu4ls..... good comments. I believe there are spoilers on a film this old, the new generations don't know this movie or many others... It's new to them.

@@vgovger4373 about me and spoilers - I don't mind them. To me it is just not the ending but how it arrived there. I even read films on line before watching, no joke. It is about development for me (same for books). Thanks for your comments.
