Even on their 'fast day' shoes Mizuno just can't get away from outsoles that are made to last 600 miles. Though to be fair, most everyone I know who wears Mizunos is the type of runner who buys one pair and wears it nonstop for a year or two until it completely falls apart.
I had outsole durability problems after 100miles with my Adidas Adizero Adios 6. So I'm thinking to replace this shoe with something similar weight and firm sensation but with a better durability. I guess this Mizuno Wave Rebellion seems to me a great option now, expecialy when the price has dropped like 35% !
As one of those diehard fans that love (almost) everything that they do, I'm happy that they've been going out of their comfort zone a bit more lately, finally reaching more people (and reviewers) and getting positive feedback on what they're doing. It makes me much more excited about their 2022 lineup and where things will go next. Thank you very much for your review!
Thanks for the Mizuno review. Ive owned 2 Mizuno shoes over the years and didnt really love either of them. Most of their models are 12mm drop and I prefer much less. This shoe seems interesting with the 8mm drop, but at the $180 price point.....that's a lot to ask with the amazing shoes on the market.
Thanks for an excellent review as always. I was very excited to try Mizuno when this shoe was released but the price at that time was higher than Nike VF Next%. The price as dropped a little now but still at Saucony Endorphin Pro 2 level. It's just too much. I'm waiting for greater discounts before I try it. I think it has potential and v2, if it happens, is likely to be even better. Maybe one day I can try a Mizuno.
In the same boat as a former Mizuno die hard. The Wave Rider 7 was the first shoe that really made me fall in love with running back in high school. I was super pumped to win a free pair of the 25s after not running in any after the 9. The Wave Rebellion is super exciting for where they’re going, but that price is just too tough to swallow with better shoes already so much cheaper.
Wave Rebellion £180 vs Endorphin Speed £155....... enough said. I want to like Mizuno, but something is keeping me away - there is never cross the board "this is good" always hit or miss.
Nylon plates are old generation nowadays. These kind of new plates came to replace Nylon and it is almost as good as the carbon fiber plates as far a I know.
@@kofuzi I'm not sure about a smaller glass fiber plate combined with the tradition Wave plate. But I got the Wave Rider 25 and Wave Rider Neo 2. The Wave plate in the Neo 2 is almost half of the size and thickness of the one in the 25th and I feel pretty much the same stability and bounce in a lighter package. Let's wait and see the Rebellion 2 or the Mizuno's VaporFly... if there is a brand with the expertise and used to put plates in their shoes f for decades is Mizuno.
these kinds of shoes (meaning uneccessarily expensive, from the buyers point of view) often are on sale in Slovakia, cause people are not really willing to pay that much money, unless its a super shoe (or just very popular e.g. endorphin speed), and theyre a very advanced passionate runner...for example the invincible was on sale a few times for less than 120 euros
It’s so funny how the issues you describe with perceived lateral tilt of the shoe and the over aggressive rocker concerned you and sound like selling points to me! One thing I noticed as you ran in this shoe is almost ZERO visible compression of the midsole. Strange.
Hi Kofuzi. Thank you for your informative review and overall content. As far as I can notice from your running videos you seem like supinator so maybe that is the reason that you felt weirdness during your walk with these shoes. Please continue your good work, maybe you could talk more on what you are doing to prevent injuries, or if you feel some discomfort what are you doing to mitigate it, and do you incorporate strength training to your usual routine. Greetings!
Where would you rate the energy return from the plate compared to something like the nylon plate from the endorphin speed? It seems like they're both in the same class of shoe, or at least intended to be
Just ordered this shoe for $80 (Europe). For that price I could not resist. They were in an odd size; UK 10+ (??) so it will be interesting to see how they fit. Perhaps it's their way of saying "10.5"? :-)
@@kofuzi Yeah, turns out it was a US11.5. Fit is fine, but the ride is very firm, almost harsh feeling. And is that really a 8mm drop? Feels like 10+mm to me.
As someone who likes to advocate for Skechers Performance, I find Mizuno to be an interesting counter-example. Mizuno’s tech seems weird, the shoes are quite ugly, and I only have known them as a baseball gear brand. The Skechers offering seems eminently more enticing. Edit: interesting counter-example in terms of brands bias. People have tended to give Skechers less of a chance due to negative brand bias, Ko especially. Whereas Mizuno has a neutral brand bias where in my (biased) view it’s hard to see how they don’t.
I’m sorry but for 180 I would rather by a discount pair of Clifton 7s $103 and a pair of discounted ride 13s $69 for less than this one shoe I will pass.
Glass fiber reinforced just means that it's plastic with fiberglass if that makes sense - so essentially it's just a plastic plate with fiber reinforcement which most likely stiffens up the plate for this specific use I would guess
@@kofuzi not quite no. Fiberglass is the use of glass fibers weaved together or meshed together and bonded with an epoxy/resin. Fiber reinforced plastic is essentially just plastic with glass fibers embedded in it but it's still plastic. Hopefully that helps. (Something similar to the idea is when people put straw in concrete to help reinforce the concrete - same principle with putting glass fibers in plastic)
@@kofuzi I suspect that they used glass reinforced plastic for a couple of reasons. 1.) Is stupid easy to manufacture in comparison to fiberglass or carbon fiber. 2.) It's cheaper. 3.) Maybe Mizuno engineers thought it would have a better performance than the alternative plate types. **Also, glass reinforced plastic is often used to make plastics more rigid and durable, but also can withstand bending forces better than traditional plastics because it's reinforced, meaning it can probably bend further prior to breaking**
Your excellent review makes me want to get one pair, but being accustomed to quite "forgiving" or almost non-existent heel counters (Adios Pro e.g.), I'm a little concerned about running in a hard/stiff one. Despite my age (65), I'm lucky to have neutral footstrike and above than average biomechanics; what's your take ? HM in the 1.40/1.45 range, mostly a mountain runner and XC skier who runs for fun.

Stumbled on your channel on recommendations from watching Seth DeMoor, loving your content and your reviews are very thorough!
thanks for watching! Seth is great!
His livestream happens weekdays at 1pm CST so if you ever have questions for him, he is good at getting to almost all of them

They seem to finally be on the right track. Hopefully Mizuno can make the same kind of comeback that Asics did this year.

I hope that Mizuno can find a way to keep their existing fans while also stepping forward to excite new ones
They need to bring back the Hitogami. I was getting "last year's model" (my standard purchase strategy) for under $50 for two or three versions.
Glass fiber reinforced plastic is used on some laptops like Lenovo ThinkPads
Wonder how fast I could run on Lenovos
I honestly love these shoes- they were weird at first but I’ve fallen in love with them.
I like the angry pumpkin face on the toecap.
Literally feel like I stole these at $20 from Finish Line, my first pair of plated running shoes and loving them so far.
Glad to hear you’re enjoying them!
The marketing is hilarious. "1141% more 'snap'" 😵
the snap coefficient was off the charts
Love that shirt you're wearing. Can't find it anywhere on the interwebs.
it's about four or five years old

I worry that it’s some executive’s attempt at connecting with a younger audience

May be mizuno didnt offer a good incentive to this guy that he is posting negative stuff. He is. Supinator so why blame shoes. They are fantastic 😂😂
I wonder why this commenter didn’t disclose whether he was paid to make this comment

CFRP is Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer and GFRP is a Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer, so it is some sort of "fiberglass" indeed!
So it’s like a boat, then?
Hey, great channel , what's your recommendation for running shoes below 100 usd
Look for last years shoes. Whether they are under 100 will fluctuate depending on availability, time of year, and potentially, region
