That’s everywhere in Canada and most other developed countries. The US is one of the only developed countries with very low taxes in most states. Some states like California are an exception to that though
@@tylerclayton6081 that’s because everywhere else in the developer world. Besides, the United States is basically not a free country anymore. They are getting worse and worse going back to the monarchy days.
Things are more expensive. The property taxes in anchorage are high. There isn’t a lot of land in Anchorage to build homes (mountains on one side, ocean on the other) so housing. So spendy, Gasoline is near Cali prices. Vehicles, toys and everything else are more expensive because everything has to be shipped on a barge or a truck. I lived in Alaska for nearly 9 years. It’s not big city prices, but it’s higher.
As someone from Illinois (it’s pretty similar here income tax wise) that’s actually not that bad. 100k in IL would be like 72,000 after taxes, plus I’m sure Alaska is a heck of a lot prettier than Illinois 😂

Yes your federal tax is going to be exactly the same it just depends on how much you make so it doesn't matter if you live in Alaska or if you live in California you're going to pay the same Medicare tax and federal tax it all depends on the amount of gross income the only big difference is we have no income tax
If your in anything medical, nursing, etc.. there’s lots and it pays higher than the national average for those jobs. There’s definitely lots of professional jobs available. There’s for sure general labour jobs if that’s what you mean, but nothing like some of the places in the south I’ve been. I’m my opinion it’s not worth it long term up there unless the pay is great. It’s real expensive to live up there too
In belgium it would be 45% for the individual income tax then 13.something % for the ONEM (workers benefit) and then whatever tax your city needs oh and your boss had to pay a 25 % tax on the 100k as well, and the VAT tax is up to 21%

Ignoring taxes that you pay that do NOT come out of your paycheck (sales, property, insurance (which is not a tax), this seems about right. You will start getting some of the FICA after 65 when you go on Medicare and when you retire and draw on SS. Depending on when you retire, how long you live, and how much you paid in, etc., you could end up getting most or all of that back. Also, part of the FICA is matched by your employer (unless you are self-employed), which is additional money. Again, not an expert. @@Jack-xy5xq I guess if you're renting you don't care about property tax, but the reality is that rent is paying someone's property tax., and, it's a tax.
That's the FICA. The percentages are odd, but for W2 employees it's 6.2% SS on the first 147,000$, for a max of $9,114; 1.45% Medicare tax on the first $200,000 of wages ($250,000 for joint returns; $125,000 for married taxpayers filing a separate return), plus 2.35% Medicare tax (regular 1.45% Medicare tax plus 0.9% additional Medicare tax) on all wages in excess of $200,000 ($250,000 for joint returns; $125,000 for married taxpayers filing a separate return). And if you're self employed... it gets worse: 12.4% OASDI on the first $147,000 of self-employment income, for a maximum tax of $18,228 (12.4% of $147,000); plus 2.90% Medicare tax on the first $200,000 of self-employment income ($250,000 of combined self-employment income on a joint return, $125,000 on a return of a married individual filing separately), plus 3.8% (2.90% regular Medicare tax plus 0.9% additional Medicare tax) on all self-employment income in excess of $200,000 ($250,000 of combined self-employment income on a joint return, $125,000 for married taxpayers filing a separate return).
Taxes, despite the fairly corrupt Govt officials/politicians; pave the roads, make harbours, supply the infrastructure to get your Water, Electricity, Gas, etc. Be thank fun if you can earn that much or even 3/4. Geez!!??
Eh, tax percentage is wrong. You're only paying, as a single earner (taxed as single, not married, or married filing separately), 24% on income above $89,076, PLUS $15,213.50. So, out of 100,000$, you'll pay: $15,213.50 - federal + 2,671.26 - (24% of 10,924, the amount over $89,076 you earned) For a total federal tax amount of $17,835.26 + HALF of FICA, if you are a W-2 employee, or ALL of FICA if you are self employed. So, income tax alone for ant state that doesn't have a state/city income tax, on $100,000 is $17,835.26. So, outside of FICA, you'd keep $82,164 before FICA. FICA isn't crazy, but it has its own breakdowns. bgm-cpa . com has an article on the social security wage base increase for 2022 that is a nice read.
