  • Moving to a different country to study can be very challenging and daunting as you try to juggle your university responsibilities together with all the tasks that need to be completed to settle in. I felt a bit in the dark before I made the move to Hungary so I’m hoping that this video can give people more of an insight into the country and a better idea of what to expect.

    I’m from Kazakhstan and I wait for university decision. I’m confused where should I study (my major is architecture), because I also consider Hong Kong and Hertfordshire, UK. So, yeah, this video was a great help for me

    Hello Cam!
    It's me again.
    You have created a very good video especially for those who are incoming freshman students at you university.
    while I passed recently at the university, I was sad to say that I was not awarded with the scholarship. thus, I will not be able to go there.
    But, I want to stay optimistic and I will again next year.

    Hello Cam! Thank you for the video, it was very interesting to see weighted cons of education in Pécs
    As a student myself I can only add that it is always what you want it to be, and eventually it all depends just on your work, no matter which university or city is it.
    Also the train story is so funny of course it is completely okay to be lost while in completely different country, but i really liked that you shared it, made my day!
    Also, if you dont mind I would really like to hear what you felt personally of a Pécs city as a whole, how you felt it was different from your hometown, what do you do in freetime in pécs, did you find some cool places
    Also do you travel to budapest frequently?
    Thank you in advance for your time!

    • @CamMedLife
      @CamMedLife  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hey, thank you for your feedback! Catching that train was definitely not my brightest moment. 😂
      I actually like the city of Pécs. It does have a bit of a charm about it. I do agree with people that complain that the nightlife could be better and there could be more things to do but as I said in the video, a lot of it depends on your mindset. I usually spend my free time playing football and chilling with friends having coffee/drinks but hoping to make more of an effort from next semester onwards to go on regular hikes up the small “mountain” we have, play some tennis, have some more house parties and so on…It is quite different to back home for me in the sense where I have more freedom, everything is within walking distance and there is a big walking culture in Europe plus I love all the coffee places.
      I don’t travel to Budapest too often as I usually say that I’m going to catch up with work on the weekends so I can’t go and then I don’t end up doing either which also needs to change. 😂 I’ve heard so many good things about the nightlife in Budapest so I need to try and experience that more while I’m here in Hungary.

    • @CamMedLife
      @CamMedLife  10 месяцев назад

      Hey, Pécs is a small city so job opportunities are not as easy to come by for a student. I have seen international students working in restaurants or delivering food but I do think that your options are quite limited. At least the cost of living is cheap compared to the rest of Europe.

  • @abeeramaqsood4652

    What about the holidays here in pecs do you get summer holidays and what is the duration??

    • @CamMedLife
      @CamMedLife  4 месяца назад +2

      We get 1 week off between 1st and 2nd semester (usually a few days in January and the 1st week of February) and then we get about 2 and a half months off in the summer. There are factors that can influence this though. With the exam periods being 7 weeks, you can prolong your holiday if you finish your exams quickly as you will have the rest of the exam period off. Then in the summer, we usually have some form of Summer Practice in the hospital which is around 4 weeks and that cuts down on the holiday.
      Usually my breaks look like this: I take 1 week off in the middle of the December exam period and travel over Christmas. Then I usually finish with some time to spare as well and get around 3 weeks off after my exams. In the summer, I usually finish with about 2-3 weeks to spare in the exam period so I travel within Europe during that time and then come back for summer practice in July. The whole of August is then a holiday after that.

    Hello Cam! thank you for all the informative videos about living in Hungary as a student, it is great to have someone to tell all the pros and cons about a place. I have 2 questions if it is possible:
    1- After finishing the study period in Hungary do I have to get back home or can I for example apply for a doctorate or maybe a work visa or something?
    2- The scholarship offers a monthly stipend of 40k Forints please correct me if I'm wrong, is it possible to get a job work and study if so how much is the minimum wage in Hungry?

    • @CamMedLife
      @CamMedLife  7 месяцев назад +1

      You can get a potential 9 month extension on your visa to try find a job post studies and then if you are able to find employment, your employer can help with the documentation needed to apply for a work visa.
      It is possible to get a job but there are limits on your hours per week and depending on where you decide to be (city of choice), job opportunities might be more scarce/plentiful. The minimum wage is 292 400 HUF per month but this is for Hungarian citizens who work more hours per week then an international student would. I don’t have the Stipendium Scholarship so I’m not sure if the 40k HUF is accurate but hopefully I could be of some help.

      I would recommend that you hike up to Tettye/TV Tower to get a good view of the city. You can also check out Lake Orfu or Lake Balaton (this lake is further away). Lastly, I would recommend that you go wine tasting in Villanyi as Hungary has some great wines (especially red wine). In terms of bars, I would mention CoolTour, Csinos and N-Eozin if you looking for something outside but you could also check out Nappali. I would recommend Nana if you are looking for a restaurant as it is right in the city centre (good atmosphere and good food). Enjoy 💪🏼

      The rumours circulating around Hungary make me want to say yes, at least for the first 2 years. The system is quite gruelling in Pécs in the first 2 years as there are a lot of subjects that are high demanding. Each University comes with its difficulties though.

      Hey, if you are an EU citizen graduating from Pécs then you will not need to sit the PLAB examinations to register in the UK. However, if you are a non-EU citizen, you will need to take the exam to be able to register with the GMC.

      Hey, I’m not sure about Yemeni students specifically but there are a lot of Arab students at the university. In general in Hungary, most people can speak broken English or pretty good English…Of course, it will be better in Budapest than here in Pécs but I’ve noticed an improvement in Pécs already since I have been here. The city is becoming more and more international each year in my opinion.
