@seejanedrill I just came across your channel and subscribed. I quit using the plug ins because it got too expensive every month. Was costing me $50-70 at least every few weeks or so. I never thought to do this. This is awesome and I can choose a wider variety of scents. Thank you. 😊
Thanks Leah. Love your videos. I'm a 72 year old woman and this week I removed an old toilet and installed a new one all by myself. Thank you for helping us singles save money!
That is encouraging. Congratulations,
Wow! You go, girl!!! Love your attitude!
That's impressive at any age, but most definitely when you're over 70. Wish I had been there to help you and learn from you.
@MoonbeamAcres it wasn't easy, but I persisted. Next one will be easier!
Way to go !!!!
Just a tip: many essential oils are toxic to pets skin or if ingested - be careful to not drip and keep out of reach of pets. Best channel on RUclips I have learned so much!
Breathing them is a source of exposure too. Really unhealthy for everyone.
This. Even a diffuser in a room where a cat has access to will cause particles to eventually end up on it's hair and then be ingested.
Actually there are major studies that show essential oils are very bad for you and it’s mostly complete bullshit.
My outlets have cat pheromones in them. Those are 6x higher than fragrance. Cats aren’t even grateful. 😂
I was thinking the same thing inhaling too
Saving money and reducing waste by reusing the containers? definitely a win-win for me ❤🎉🎉
I can't believe I never thought of this! Thank you Leah!
You're so welcome!
Your videos are edited beautifully. Continuity, content, relevence, each video progresses, each scene adding to the story. And you never talk down to the audience, I have not seen you denigrate alternative procedures or products.
Raw knowledge is wonderful. The ability to communicate that knowledge is exceptional.
Your videos are so easy to watch. The intro scene is 2 seconds, no fluff, right to the point, bam.......you do a great job....
I appreciate that!
I absolutely love this. I used to buy wallflowers from bath & body works but can't afford them . We started buying the store brand like what you showed in the video but they are outrageously expensive too....and this helps our one income family so much!
I used to do this years ago and some plug in companies started making it impossible to take out the wick. Damn shame. I use electric diffusers and oils from Amazon. It comes with a remote, ambient light and you can set it on a timer. For areas I don't have furniture to rest it on, I still do this. I like Lemongrass and Grapefruit
In those situations, You might still be able to refill them with a small needle syringe.
Thanks Leah. It's always great to save some money but nowadays it's a must.
Absolutely!
Absolutely love you Leah. I just purchased 4 candles for $40 gift cards. I received for Christmas. I will be now making my own plugin which I also have in different rooms. Thank you as usual. Vanilla is my scent.
THIS is going to be how I spend my Friday night! I have a few old Glade plugin and a bunch of random essential oils from a diffuser.....this is gonna save so much money! Thank you for this!
How about just diffuse the EOs? No oil needed either
I still love your channel for teaching me how to clean grout lines. I clean airbnbs and you made me look like a genius! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm so glad!
😊
Link?
Protect Leah at all cost. She is a true jewel to us. I know the big guys hate this!
Make sure if you have pets that you look up which oils are safe
I agree
There are no essential oils that are safe for cats.
@@beckywebb1916that’s why I like dogs
Thank you everyone for making these comments. Retired now but worked in veterinary medicine emergency and critical care and I can't tell you how many pets both dogs and cats also birds can suffer adverse effects from essential oils. Birds specifically can actually die. No salt lamps around cats!!
What a great idea! Especially since it seems like lately with everything we buy the price goes up, the quantity/quality goes down. Leah..you’re one of my favorite RUclipsrs! Keep doing more videos!
But, with the amount you pay for an essential oil + a carrier oil, you can just buy a refill!
I can't believe it is this easy and inexpensive. Thank you for the tip.
As someone who hates industrial fragrances, this is a great idea.
Plugins, fabric softeners, laundry detergent, etc.
Air fresheners emit over 100 chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes - some of which are associated with different types of cancer in high doses.
As a chemist I wholeheartedly agree. So many fragrance-added products don't contain essential oils; they contain compounds that approximate the scent as well as the contaminants and carriers you mentioned above, including others. And it's not just high doses that are dangerous-small exposures over a long period of time can have similar damaging effects. Just living one's life exposes us to so many potentially harmful substances I see no point in adding to it.
I don't use anything that has fragrance added if I can avoid it. At most, I'd put a drop or two on a cotton ball and place in a bowl but most of the time I'm content with an open window.
I know, right! I was just looking for a better solution when I came across this idea....perfect! I've been going green and natural with my cleaning etc.
@@dianeladico1769 same here. I've tried the plug-ins twice. After a couple of days, the continuous scent gives me a headache. I also think they're a huge waste of money.
My wife loves those smelly things, so I had her watch. Guess what I'm going to make. Thanks Leah
😊
@@seejanedrill😂😂😂♥️
What a great tip.
What has annoyed me for ages is that the supermarket sells the full kit complete with plug for less that it charges for refills. However, they only ever put one full kit on the shelf at the most and often they claim that they are out of stock forcing you to buy the more expensive refills.
I'm looking forward to our refills running out so that I can fill them with lavender oil to match the natural scent we get from the bushes that I planted by the doors and windows.
Great idea. One other benefit - The ones we have used are really much stronger than I think they need to be, with your technique I can tone it down a bit by using a few less or more drops. Thanks (again) Leah.
I know this isn't new to me but so many
Younger people don't know these things. I just subscribed. I'm always open to learning something new. Because there's always something new to learn!
This channel along with this particular video, just showed up in my newsfeed and I’m sooooo glad it did. This is such a great hack as I love essential oils. Thanks for sharing! ☺️
I’ve been watching your videos for a couple of years and I always learn something new! Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
I met Ms. Bolden on a cruise and she is the MOST Wonderful and Gracious person!!! I have learned SO Much from her - she is a treasure!!!
Thank you for your kind words
Have used essential oils for health, odor stoppage, cleaning etc for 35 years. They are the real deal, not a perfume chemical coverup.. great video!
Leah, Thanks for this great tip. I have tried this myself but I didn't know I needed to use a carrier oil so this will work better and be much less expensive . I also appreciate the list of essential oils not recommended. I love your channel. Thank you
I was under the impression that you had to replace the wicks as well ?😊
You can make your own room spray with vodka and your favorite scent oil in a spray bottle.
Heck with that idea. I can see someone drinking down the vodka instead.
Glad I watched this video, I just thought you refilled the whole bottle with the essential oils. 👍🏼
What a great idea! Thanks so much for sharing. Just the other day I was looking for something non toxic/natural to put in my home and couldn't come up with anything, much less affordable. This is the perfect solution! I'm going to try this out!
🤩 I can’t tell you how much I love this!! I just finished 4+ yrs renovating my 1938 house, literally refinishing every surface - so it smells fresh! But it’s on a slope so the single garage and utility cellar are underneath, so the very old concrete and dirt floors, along with the old joists and original rock foundation leak smells up through the oak hardwood floors and sometimes STINK, esp in the heat and humidity of summer. I’ve tried everything, finally gave up and added some citrus plug-ins, but at full-strength they barely last a month and are VERY pricey when you’re using ten of them! I already use diffusers in my house and have lots of high quality oils, so I’ll be making my own from now on!! I esp love this because the readymade citrus is way too sweet, so i like to add mint or something foresty to it. ❤❤❤
Are you reading my mind? 😆 I just looked this up today. Thank you so much for sharing this! I have these everywhere and phew! They're espensive!
Love, love this. It makes me sick thinking of how many little containers I have thrown away, now that you showed us how to refill them. 😢😂 Thank you so much. Blessings
Thank you soooo much! I will save my empties and try this!👏
You are the best!! I’m requesting a collaboration with you and Pam’s cooking❤
Thank you so very much. I had been wondering how to refill these much cheaper than buying those expensive refill packs. And you make it look so easy also. I Always enjoy your videos! I have learned alot from you. Thank you for your dedication and hard work.
Understand that by putting one of these in your home, there will be people for whom this creates a toxic environment. It's not about how strong the scent is. It's about the ingredients in the scent. Some will suffer from congestion, itchiness of the eyes and other sinus/allergy/cold symptoms. Others (like me) will be down with a migraine for a day or two after exposure. I don't go into people's homes anymore because I'm NEVER in the mood for a migraine. Life gets limited and lonely, but it's a tradeoff I've had to make for my own preservation. 😢
Thank U So Much. I Love A House that Smells Good. Sometimes I leave the Almost empty one Sitting on counter to get all the good smell out❤❤❤❤❤
Genius. I have a different type of air freshener but I bet I could do this with it as well.
HEY LEAH!!!!..IT'S BEEN A MINUTE SINCE I'VE TUNED INTO YOUR CHANNEL... I'M GLAD TO SEE YOU AND I'M GLAD THAT I 'M STILL AROUND TO TUNE IN...LOL..... THANK YOU FOR TIP, TRICKS AND HACKS! LOVE YOU!
Leah, you rock.
💯%
Thank you for this tip. I will be doing this today!
I have another tip, something like this: Swifter* type mops that spray. The refill is very pricey. I buy floor cleaner concentrate, the one recommended for click vinyl, and refill the original bottle.
The trick- the cap needs to be heated up significantly, like with hottest running tap water for a several seconds. Use a small towel and wiggle it off to fill.
After several re-fillings the lid gets leaky and you need a fresher bottle. I've had great success getting more by simply asking around.
I paid about 3x what one refill bottle costs for a gallon of concentrate that makes more floor cleaner than I'll use before I...well, there's a lot in there.
Good luck!
*yes, I spelled it wrong, but that's how I say it, because that's how I roll. Lol
Thank you so much!!! Leah...for that tip!!! Love for my home to Smell welcome...
OLD Leather Smith here, Great job very reasonable. I use them in my shop 4 different liquids, example I glue Velcro 2 the bottom & have a 2x3 board with one part Velcro also glued 2 it, thete by no spillage which is used 4, staines of different colors, glues, & paints. The scent I don't have 2 worry about since it's a LEATHER SHOP.
GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️🥎🙃
Thanks for the tip. I will try it and see how it will work for me and my family.
I'd never have thought about that, but I don't know why. I make my own "before you poo" spray in just roughly the same way for just pennies. Need a squirt bottle, essential oil of choice, rubbing alcohol (as the carrier), liquid dish soap and water. This is a total eye-ball recipe. Half fill a spray bottle (whatever size) with water. Add as much or as little essential to your liking. Some oils aren't as strong as others. Add about a tablespoon of rubbing alcohol (for an 8 ounce sprayer), screw the lid on and shake the snot out of it to bind the oil to the alcohol. Open the bottle put a few drops of dish soap, fill the rest of the way with more water. Recap and SWIRL to mix. Don't shake! it will create foam. The dish soap works as a surfactant to keep the spray spread out on top of the water so that the smell doesn't escape. Before use, swirl, not shake, spray before you go. Easy.
Thanks for sharing this
Thank you. The old Glade plug inside were the best. Drop in a plastic cartridge plug in wall. Good for a month.
What a genius idea - I can’t wait to try this. THANK YOU! 😊
Leah. I might try these now. I never thought to fill my own. Also, we’re finishing up the Dream House Accelerator and it’s awesome!! I’m so glad I signed up.
I truly enjoy your videos. They've inspired me to a point where I'm ready to tackle a project!
Thanks Leah, top tip. I will definitely try this one. Thanks Again 🙏👏🇺🇸🇬🇧
Great idea and all the information you need. And I was really impressed with warning us of what Not to use.👏
Absolutely brilliant! Cheers 💚🍀
Great tip. We quit buying those over priced air fresheners years ago.
I LOVE, lavender mixed with peppermint. There is an old recipe from Paul Harvey, and that recipe repels bugs. I made a fresh batch without the beer, sprayed it on, and trimmed shrubs without a bug bothering me. I USED Pachiolli, mint, and mouthwash. Pachiolli is in Cinnabar cologne, and I wore it to a bonfire party, where EVERYONE, EXCEPT Me, was being bitten by mosquitoes. I can remember the mosquitoes would plop on my body, and take off, immediately. After thinking about it over the few days of the party, I began to wonder what was in Cinnabar that mosquitoes did NOT like. I looked up the ingredients in that cologne, abnd learned that Pachiolli was in it, looked it up, and it repels bugs.
I figured this could be done since you could open the bottle. Thank you for showing us how! Time to make myself some spiced apple scent!
Another great tip from you Leah.....thanks!!!
I've been enjoying your content for quite some time. I'm surprised to see something from you that doesn't apply to construction! Very cool trick, we'll be trying this. Thank you for sharing!
I'm totally going to do this! Thank you!
And if you like color, add a drop of food coloring.
A trick I have seen with essential oils mixing with water comes from diy soda syrups recipes. You dissolve the EO in ethanol (Ever clear or the like) first which will dissolve totally in it. Then you add the water which alcohol has no problem dissolving into. By the time the EO is in the water, it is in so tinny of droplets that it will not reconstitute into a separate layer. This is why homogenized milk fat does not separate from the milk into different layers.
GREAT TIP! Thank you Leah.
Thank you. I have so many allergies/sensitivities to scents. But I can do essential oils. This is brilliant. 💜
i reckon like most perfumes it will be petrochemical synthetic isolates your inhaling absorbing it into your blood and every cell in the body , endochrine disruptors etc
😮
I reckon EOs are not
LOL
Siiiiiiigh
great idea. I'm doing it right now! We got some air wick air freshener filled bottles ( no plug in with it )
at a garage sale ( cheap) and put those into our current air wick container.
Great video! If I didn't have two dogs and a cat, I'd install fresheners everywhere. Dogs and cats have a highly sensitive nose and having air fresheners will be overwhelming to them.
I have done this and it works
Thank you so much. Always wondered what a carrier oil was and so happy to learn that you can do this!
Yeah they are
Just found your video as I was browsing looking for something to watch before bed.
Love this idea, going to tell my friend about it as well.
I'm headed to Dollarama tomorrow to grab some equipment to make these. 🙂
You got two new subscribers, me and my partner.
Thank you so much for your videos! I can’t tell you how helpful they are! God bless you.
Thank you sooo much !have a blessed day day
Awesome! Thank you Leah! I have tried to fill them myself but haven’t gotten good results. I’m excited to try this. 🤗♥️
Thank you.
Thanks. I knew it was a good idea to hold on to those bottles.
Thank you so much for this.❤
Hi! Thank you! I am same way, like my house to smell good! Enjoy your weekend! 🤗🥰
You enjoy the weekend as well
@@seejanedrill Thanks!
Great idea! Thank you 🎉
I've been doing this for years. The only difference is after taking the wick out of the bottle, I just refill it with whatever oil I want, snap them back on and plug it in. It takes all of 5 minutes to do.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 thank you for this tip !!!!!!!
First video watched on this channel and I absolutely loved it! Must admit that this money saving hack is brilliant! I’d given up on all of those ridiculously overpriced, overly pungent and chemical spewing air fresheners years ago. However after taking a wee gander after watching this I found that it’s actually a lot cheaper to use one of these plug ins filled with your own essential oils than to buy a very similar product but made specifically for essential oils. My only caveat or concern is that essential oils need to be kept in a dark bottle and away from sunlight. Thank you and I’m now excited to check out more videos and become this channels newest subscriber!
❤ from Shannon in Canada 🇨🇦
PS when needing to buy a carrier oil look for one that serves multiple purposes. Jojoba or Almond for hair and skin, etc. You only need a very small amount to fill up the empty cartridge and if you can use the same oil for multiple purposes you are not only taking good care of yourself but saving money in the long run.
Awesome!!! Terrific hack, Leah you are on to something!
Great idea! This channel is priceless.
I learned how to install slate tile from you. You're an excellent teacher/instructor 💯
Excellent video and suggestion, Leah! Thanks for sharing it!
You're so welcome!
Great idea! I will try it.
Go for it!
OHMYGOSH! This is awesome! I have so many empty ones of these AND I always get the wrong refills LOLOL
Yep been doing this with Bath n body plug ins for several years .
Always a pleasure to see you ❤❤❤
Love this I just got to figure out which ones are safe around cats
I ❤ thm also. Yes u r right. They r expensive & getn more expensive w- everything else lol. Thank u 4 sharing. Thts pretty cool.
My friend to the rescue again! Many thanks!!
Hi, Leah.I just love listening to your videos. They're always so incredibly interesting and you're just very pleasant to listen to loved.Have you as my neighbor god bless you and thank you for all the great information❤😊
I absolutely love PF Candle’s ‘Teakwood and Tobacco’ smell, but don’t care for candles and the oil is weak. I’ve been trying to find a solution and bought empty plug in refill containers. It didn’t work.
Brillant! You could also use a syringe to put the oil in.
Soooooooooo excited to try this. Thank you! I just subscribed 💚
Loxim diffuser is the best diffuser I've ever bought. I think Air Wick Essential Mist works on a similar technology.
They don't know it yet but the chicken house is getting some plug ins. Thanks!
Jane where you been!
This is a great idea because the store bought ones are toxic to animals. However... there are several essential oils that are save for pets. I train dogs and for my dogs trained in scent detection, essential oils are used for the scent.... i wouldn't use those obviously, but others would be fantastic!!!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!!! Because i have 5 Longcoat German Shepherds that live indoors and this will be handy!!!
im in whit this im ur newest subscriber!!😮😮❤❤❤
