I'm an England fan and a huge admirer of Clive Woodward after what he did for English rugby back in 1998-2003, but I've gotta admit I have no idea what he was doing with the 2005 Lions. It was always going to be tough to beat NZ, and he brought out retired players lacking game time and picks them ahead of form players. Why the majority of the squad were English when Wales were the Grand Slam champions, I dont know. Its sad, because they had some great players, Henson included.
To be fair, there were some England players who played well and were there on merit in the form of White, Grewcock, Hill, Dallaglio, Robinson and Lewsey. But yes, the rest ala Kay, Greenwood, Rowntree, Smith etc should not have been there. Cockbain, Charvis, Ryan Jones, Wallace, Hogg etc should have gone from beginng
Well when a teams captain and best player is taken out in the first minute of the first Test, its a pretty big blow to morale.... We will never know how close the series could of been if the All Blacks had played fair.

Um no this was their first of the year. From a massive Bop fan as a kid who went to all games including this, from 02 to 06 in the bay.
Ummm, you do realise that the NPC season had not even started yet? Bay of Plenty's season didn't start until August. This game was played in June.
Even so, this is a team that had been around together before.
