WJR the 50,000 Watt Flamethrower. Summer weekends you could hear this theme floating in the air. From Metro Beach to Hines Park to Stony Creek to Belle Isle, and from your neighbor's back yard three fences over ! Summer vacation of '68 !
This was my Grandfathers Favorite Team, my Dad tells me that he Remembers that my Grandfather was so excited when the Tigers Won the World Series in 1968. I miss you Grandad.
So many fantastic memories of growing up outside of Ypsi/A2/Milan listening to this in the garage with my dad. Ernie Harwell and Paul Carey were incredible commentators. The Tigers continued this theme into the 1970s. Also loved listening to Bob Ufer for U of M football! Thank you for posting!
I can remember “uncle Fred” next door on the shores of lake Erie in harrow Ontario. Sunday afternoon, in the 60s. Paint brush in hand. At the cottage. But no painting done. A tigers doubleheader. Heat humidity ernie harwell and Paul Carey broadcasting. WJR Detroit. If I could go back.
I listened to that well over 1,000 times. Ernie Harwell and Gene Osborne, and Ray Lane, then Paul Carey. I will never forget listening to the brothers broadcast of light hitting Hank Aguirre getting a triple.
Such memories of listening to the game at the kitchen table, eating popcorn, and drinking lemonade with my granddad. That theme song would always get me hyped up for the game.
WJR "The Great Voice of the Great Lakes,Yup Grandpa listening on his GE transistor.I'd ask him who's your favorite team, anyone who plays the Tigers but I know deep down he loved the Tigs!!!
@@brucecoppola8512 His name is spelled correctly and Overgard also created "Gridiron Heroes," the Detroit Lions' fight song. He was at Wayne State from 1937-68. Other schools benefited from his ability, Ferris State University's fight song and alma mater are both Graham's work.
Does anyone have a link to the WJR baseball intro theme from the early 1990s? Replaced this theme I think. "Now Sparky's the same, and Ernie's on the mike, With Ilitch it's a whole new ballgame. Talkin bout the Tigers, I love my Detroit Tigers" something like that? "

From Hudson Bay to Orlando and even to the Bahamas when conditions were right.
Reminds me of summers at my grandfather's house, drinking Vernors and learning 5 card stud...
That's a song you haven't heard in 20 years and you can hum along with every note.
I’m nearly tearing up.
10/1/24. Our Tigers are in the playoffs! And I had to listen to this.
This was my Grandfathers Favorite Team, my Dad tells me that he Remembers that my Grandfather was so excited when the Tigers Won the World Series in 1968.

I was six years old, but I remember it like it was yesterday. The next morning our entire street and every yard was covered in paper!
Ahhh, I remember it well.👍
The summer soundtrack of my youth!
This reminds me of summer afternoons with me, my best friend, and the radio in her backyard tree house, south of Flint.

This actually remained the radio theme up until the late 70's or early 80's.

The days of my youth!
The good ole summers of Ernie Harrell and Ray Lane.
Ernie and Paul too!
George Kell
@@specom George and Larry Osterman were great on TV. Back in those days prior to cable I think they only broadcasted 50 to 60 games per season.

Back when this was the theme, Van Patrick was the radio voice of the Tigers.

Its title is the Bell Telephone March.
And the composer was someone named Graham T. Overgard (sp?). An bit of trivia I picked up from fellow music students in college.

The 1961 Detroit Tigers had the best offense in the A.L. despite all the acclaim of the Yankees two juggernauts.
And they finished 8 games behind the Yankees
