I made Zendaya’s Met Gala Dress for $50

- This is my entry to Vogue Magazine for the #MetGalaChallenge
About a week ago I saw that vogue posted about the Met Gala Challenge. So of course I had to try to make something! I remade Zendaya’s 2017 Met Gala look by Dolce & Gabbana. I didn’t have access to this exact print so I hand-painted each individual parrot, flower, and vine in the dress. And it ended up taking me over 80 hours to make 😅 I’m not a professional by ANY means but this was such a good way to push myself creatively! Incredible. You made a D&G dress replica for 50.00 dollars. You hand painted the pattern and showed tremendous imagination and grit in getting it done on time. You deserve to go to the Met Gala in that dress next year.

the material was cheap, but considering 80 hours of work, even if we assume she was paid 10 dollars an hour, the price would be over 800$!
Holy ... you actually painted the parrots to recreate the fabric on Zendaya’s thousands of dollars gown?!?!? You. Are. Amazing. When I saw the thumbnail, I thought you scoured all corners of the world to find the exact fabric. I hope Vogue was impressed at the lengths you went to recreate this dress.

Despite the dress not being selected. I like to think it was purely because they simply didn't see it through the sea of entries. I'm so impressed. So many talents coming together on this one. A massive two thumbs up from me. :)

That Zendaya dress is underrated. One of the best looks from any Met Gala ever. That picture of her is truly one of my favorite images of all time. I've even considered commissioning an artist to make a portrait of it so that I could hang it up on my all.

Oops! Just made this dress less wonderful I guess 😂 Its so funny, I think its easy to be really critical about my own art and feel like its terrible, but I would never say that about anyone else's art.

I love how she's so realistic and honest with her experience. Sewing is a struggle when things aren't going your way . Sometimes you loose motivation. The back braking long hours is hard, but in the end it's all worth it

Wow! I can’t believe you painted all that! At first I was like “how the hell did she get the fabric?! Amazing job!! Another tip that I’ve used( because you can spend a fortune on tulle for volume), I worked retail forever and collected tons of bubble wrap to use under dresses for volume! It can be noisy, but if it’s just for the look, and no one sees it, who cares?! Love this so much!

Hack....when trying to sew fabrics like all that tulle and it starts bunging up, lay tissue paper over and or under and sew. The tissue paper just rips off gently. Same when sewing thin as hell fabrics that insist in getting messed into the bobbin. I’ve even used plastic in a pinch but it didn’t rip away as easy,had to pick tiny bits of plastic out of the stitches, took way too long. The dress is stunning, you’re amazing👍🏻🙋🏼
