India is looking for tested AIP. Although AIP in submarines behave differently than what we expect theoretically. Spain although has not tested it's AIP and is new in this.
The AIP was developed by DRDO some time back. It is not a proven system which the Navy wanted.But owing to the difficulty in procuring a suitable import I think they have decided to accept a few systems on an experimental basis and install them in existing subs when they come up foe major maintenance and refitting. This is a major job involving the cutting of a submarine in two, adding the AIP section and rewelding.But imported subs thru Project 75i is still based on imported AIPs as much as I am aware.

Germany AIP is one generation ahead of DRDO AIP & Spain's AIP is one generation ahead of Germany but it in progress which will be tested by 2024 end
Bharat spend minimum 3 percent of GDP on research...and raise it to 5 percent later
10 years late. Without L&T it would have taken another 10 years. But good development if accurate.

It’s a good news but still it will take long time to integrate them in present submarines..and foreign companies will not allow to integrate them in their submarines and we still lack in making diesel submarines on our own..
