  • On 12th of October was the wedding ceremony and reception of my cousin Dolly. The wedding rituals were done as per the Bodo indigenous religion “Gudi bathou”. The day started with welcoming of the band party, then the “Biban”. As you can see during the “Biban”, the groom’s family brings various things like sugar, tea leaves, betel nuts, betel leaves, etc. while they address the fact that they have come to the bride’s house to marry her into their family. The afternoon hours was spent in the reception. The groom arrived late in the evening along with his friends and family. The wedding rituals were conducted. The family showered their blessings to the bride and the groom. The ritual ended with “Mainao dwikhangnai arw swnai”, where the bride (the daughter of the house) carries a basket of rice and circles the bathou (the cactus/ deity of Bodo people) and places the basket of rice inside the house at the spot where Mainao (the daughter of Bwrai bathou/ Bodo deity) resides.
