There is no approved hand sign. The hand signal you are describing was created by the Canadian Women's Foundation. Not everyone will recognize that it's a signal for help.

As a former Airline employee I can promise you we all look for signs of human trafficking, we actively look for it and also know what to do about it. The really hard part, is having an open border, the government is actively human trafficking at this point. If you don't stop it, you are encouraging it.
