So, I generally try not to say anything negative, but would rather be an encourager, so here we go! I absolutely love the attachment heads for the multi-tool, and the scratch technique with the wire brush is something I have to remember! The interior of the box I could have sworn was kaizen foam in your thumbnail, but it’s laser cut plywood! Bravo sir! Interior of the box has a great color scheme, that to me I think could have been reflected on the outside too. The orange on the outside is a bit on the loud side, however, story wise you could say that it is that bright of a color in order to make it easily found by the technicians! Either way, you always do amazing work!
Great project. I get your hang ups. Plywood never feels in universe. Also, in SW, adjoining faces tend to meet with chamfers or round overs. That’s why most of us are drawn to molded plastic cases.
It looks great. Auto body primer would probably take out the wood grain. The off white color you have used on other builds would make it look more “Star Warsie”. But it looks great. The tool, heads and box all look fantastic.
Awesome follow up to the last tool video. Totally dig the free actuator movement of the deodorant. The tools look fantastic, the open case looks gorgeous…personally I would throw on some drawer slides and put it into a tool chest. I understand your distress over the lid. The paint job was fantastic, Greebles and laser cut’s definitely pulled it back into SW universe, but I think the problem stems more from being a rectangle box instead of a rubber made/igloo container that gives you tons of free depth with the different bumps and patterns. I often fight the same issues on my panel because I start with a rectangle wood lid…and then fight the whole time to make it not look like a rectangle wood lid. My thoughts for your sticking point is that I would have cut a view window, add acrylic so you can see a peak of the tools. And some Star Wars picture frame type birders for around the windows (adds depth) and have a few Led bulbs poke through for automation look. Not a better idea…just where I would have gone Great job Shawn. And I think you sold me on the thought…maybe I need to buy some of those stickers And I liked the stripe paint techniques you did. Never thought to sponge them in
Ooooooo I like the window idea! There have been some great suggestions on how to “fix” what I don’t like about this! The problem was I was going to go to the surplus store and get an old army case and just never made it over there so I got impatient and tried to just build my way out and could never save myself. It’s not horrible … I just don’t like it!
It actually looks really cool. I especially loved that cartridge greeblie. Even the paint job and lights look amazing. Don't kick yourself over this, sir. And I get your frustration with the wood grain, but it seems to me a Star Wars tool box wood be more monolithic in color. You do amazing paint and weathering, I just think the orange paint is what makes it seem like it came from another IP. It's still an amazing looking build!
Thank you … I agree the color was the start of the issue! I was thinking if this was a mass produced tool box for a company it might have a “noticeable” color! I mean look at Ryobi … dear God!!!
@@trytofinishsomething I totally get that line of thinking! My first thought was that generic red tool box that seems to live in every garage. I even think the blue works if the rest of the box is just a single color. I know the weathering wouldn't be as noticeable (but you'd still put it on there.)
I think a couple of steel(ish) greebles, or something written in basic on the long black plate on the left of the cardridge could help being more Star Wars.
You and I think alike! That lone black spot was going to be my “Motto MultiTool” logo orb”Motto”, but I started not liking it. Maybe I will get that in there!
I really dig you're not sugar coating all the tribulations, the doubt or self deprecation that accompany the creative process in many crafts. Here, I think you're a bit too hard on yourself. The tools you made are a success and parts of the case are great. That black plate on the case is awesome. It just lacks a bit of work on the barren part of the plate to balance its visual interest. I would either inset a small real/fake LCD or use a big lettering in arabesh covering most of the bare strip. The lasered strip on side the case is great but it could get a silvery detail to make it pop like a jog wheel button or a hard drive motor, Regarding the top of the case, I would pimp the corners with a few chamfered squares of MDF and use a band the length of the case top with 3-5 glued half dowels and cover the whole case with a gloss color of your choice making it look more like a plasteel container than a wooden box. I dunno, that may help you get past your block. It's already a great prop as it is.
Late to the party on this one, (watching your latest video next 👍🏼). It’s an interesting one like you say, it’s a fantastic build with your usual unbelievable weathering and detail, but I do agree it looks more Guardians of the Galaxy than Star Wars… That’s not a bad thing but it’ll bug you until you rectify it. That or chalk this off as a GoTG project and start afresh on a Star Wars themed version? Gotta say though, I do every time, I love the honesty and you keeping your content real 👌🏼 not many would Mr Cash so huge kudos. Right, off to watch your weathering video, see you on the flip side 👊🏼 As always, all the best from me and mine to you and yours sir.
From what I've noticed, if a prop in Star Wars is made of wood, it stays wood. No paint, just weathering. The line seems to blur with metals and plastics, but wood stays as wood. Maybe that's why it didn't look right to you?
Hahahaha you made me laugh out loud! “Not that bad” … I agree with you. I don’t think it is horrible now, but I don’t like it! I think it looks too Guardians and not enough Star Wars!
It wasn't Book-of-Boba-Fett-Scooter bad! Maybe you could leave it sitting with the lid open and the _inside_ pointing towards the viewer rather than the outside?
“…since those stupid scooters”
That’s a good benchmark.
Hahahahaha
You are your worst critic. Great work Shawn!
The worst critic part is 100% true … thank you!
awesome man! I loved your tool build. Kelly and Jamie got me all excited about making some tools too! Great stuff bro
Thanks Brian …. It was a fun build! Can’t wait to see yours too!!

Thank you for the position spin and I am my worst critic so it’s OK … I know when I deserve a B ;)
I think that turned out great, and I like the story behind it too. 👍
Thank you very much! With her connection with the Jawa and access to so many at that spaceport it would make sense!
I think it looks great. I liked the before but the addition of what looks like a hard drive frame brings it home.
You are far too nice!
@@trytofinishsomething Ever forward!
Another masterful creation!
Thank you so much … I have mixed feelings about it! I really like some parts of it and others … not so much!
@@trytofinishsomething we are our own biggest critic. I think it came out great.

Good point! Maybe had I worked the edges more and done something to the corners it would have helped it!
Awesome build 😎👍🏾
Thank you very much!

Great job Shawn ! From someone that has made a few tools I think I like yours better .. you did an amazing job bud
Thanks Kelly! From someone who has made a lot of wooden boxes I have so much to learn from you!!!

I really like A LOT of those ideas! If (and WHEN) I revisit that I am going to come back to this … for sure! Thanks!!
Great video. This looked like a cool build. You could try using a polyurethane sealer for any wood projects like this box in the future
I will give that a try! Thanks!!
