I've got a question if you don't mind. i have a standard xbox one controller, the very first one without the 3.5 jack and it's getting quite old that the LT & A buttons feels kinda clunky enough for me notice but it's still working fine and doing it's job.
The reason i'm saying all this is because i live in Egypt and the new white controller is more expensive that it should be due to customs and other reasons. So i would basically be paying around 90$ for the newest controller.
My question is: Would you still recommend me upgrading to the newest controller ? Would it be a good investment (specially because my second controller is an old wired 360 madcatz one that i use while playing multiplayer with anyone)
Or are they basically the same thing and i'd be better off using my standard old one and saving my money ?
Another question: Would the adapter connect the 2 controllers (the newest one and the standard) at the same time ?
The newest controller design does feel great and of course has quite an appealing aesthetic however my immediate advice would be to buy a torx 8 screwdriver and open your original controller. Clean the plastic only parts with water and the electronics with compressed air or a little rubbing alcohol. Usually around the buttons and analog sticks. You may just find new life in your old controller before needing to spend a penny!
TheComplainingGamer We don't use that screwdriver alot over here, mainly the flat and the + ones.
I'm usually not that good at taking things apart and putting them the way they were without causing any damage but maybe i'll give it a try if i decided to get the newest controller, Thanks for the tip mate.
Have you tried connecting the standard and the newest to the adapter at the same time, one should assume that yes they should be compatible but you never know what Microsoft is thinking.

PS4 controllers have a 3.5 headphone jack for headset use and use bluetooth. No sound is just a choice microsoft made, like choosing to use wifi-direct for controllers on xbox one and radio frequency on 360; when everyone else used bluetooth since ps3 and WII. Microsoft always fights intelligent designs.

Today it can be done using only windows update :) and bluetooth software (checked on windows 7 pro x64, dongle bt400 asus and controller Microsoft Xbox One 4N6-00002) I didn't use any additional software. Just plug in device by cable, found drivers by windows update, installed dongle, removed cable connection, by bluetooth icon and in state of rapidly blinking controller found controller in devices (it lasted couple of minutes). Then it dissapered from bt devices:) tried again by icon when it rapidly blinking and it took then some drivers from windows update again and now it fully works. Actually I couldn't believed that new version of controller of Microsoft can't work with legal windows 7. Guys Legends are true it works.
After couple of hours and my excitement.. it works but only by cable :(((( I guess I will change my OS. Sorry

never mind, did some research aka the first link on google.
What's important to note is that the newest XBox One Wireless Adapter that comes packaged with an XBox One S wireless controller is _only_ for Windows 10. Found that out the hard way. For Win 7 and 8.1, you're gonna have to find an older adapter which I _think_ still works with the new controller.
The old adapter (as seen in this video) is large and bulky and has the button at the side, while the new adapter is small and has the button at the end. It only came out in 2017, so this guide couldn't mention it, but buyer beware!
It's frankly ludicrous what Microsoft is doing with this. You can't tell me that the technology in the new adapter is so radically different that it couldn't work with Windows 8. They're just trying to force Windows 10 on everyone.

You can have more than one controller through bluetooth but Microsoft don't recommend it.
i think that the wireless adapter supports up to 8 controllers at a time.

I've got some issues with my controller. It works but the problem is that when I play with the bluetooh connection the game works like weird the game freezes a little bit. I tryied with a micro usb cable and it works as usual. Do you have any advice for me?

So did you test the reliability with Bluetooth connection? I have integrated Bluetooth on my motherboard(a lot of motherboard still implement it like this, even the 2016. versions, since mine is from 2011.), so it's in the back and I always had trouble with my phone connecting to it, but the phone is crap anyway.. So, logically, I think this position of my Bluetooth is making it kinda useless, but that controller allegedly has ~12m range over BT....

The controller is not longer bluetooth compatible. Is that yours plans, do not waste your money. Is impossible to pair it after firmware 3.1.1221.0
Have you experienced performance issues with BT? or is there performance advantages in the USB dongle (other than Audio)?
I have heard that people are concerned about lag using bluetooth however modern standards do not suffer from any kind of delay. The usb dongle and bluetooth seem to perform equally. The audio option of the dongle in my opinion is a huge advantage but I suppose it comes down to how you like to digest sound.

The reason for that is because there doesn't seem to be any clear documentation on the Bluetooth version.
However the common belief is that it uses the 4.0 standard. Hope that helps.
Ultimately it works, it connects. I mean the usage is fairly simple. I was considering doing a connection distance test, but if a person is playing 60+ metres away I would have to question what on earth are they doing XD.
Let me get this straight, correct me if I wrong, I need the wireless usb adapter to connect the xbox one "S" controller to win 7 and win 8, but I don't need any adapter to connect the same controller to win 10 because it has a built-in bluetooth designed to work only on win 10 and the xbox one S console itself.

Any performance issues when doing your tests with bluetooth? for example, random input lag, etc. I'm curious if it's better to use bluetooth or buy the xbox adapter itself (apart from the audio difference, strictly for performance and stability).
Honestly, I didn't notice any bluetooth performance issues. As you said the adapter has the advantage of sound, alternatively you might have an audio set up that you prefer with different equipment.

I tried to update a one s controller to my win 10 through USB cable, and Xbox app wouldn't detect it. I connected it via bluetooth, and it appears in the device and printer section as normal, but not in Device Manager and the app. what the hell. does it even support wired connection?
