    People who view bot are just new streamers trying to get noticed under the Sea of streams. see no problem with it. I've watched people who are fucking hilarious who have 7 viewers.

      +ClassicTophatGaming Same, I've seen excellent streamers who bot. It's all part and parcel of trying to get noticed, it works and I KNOW people who have been partnered due to good use of bots.The balance is finding the right amount of bots just to tip you over the edge of getting noticed. not just flooding chat with 1000 bots at any time.

    Here's a GREAT solution for new streamers and new viewers!
    I myself am new to twitch, both for streaming and viewing... I have no subscriptions and no idea who to follow. What if there was just something like "Twitch Surfing" kind of like chat roulette... It's a channel that randomly connects you to a random channel for 5 (maybe 10) minutes before jumping to the next random channel or until the view manually hits next...
    I you like what you see you can go to the streamers channel manually via a link on Twitch Surf, and continue watching there.
    This would be a great method of exposing streamers to new viewers, while simultaneously exposing new views to streamers.
    Win/Win right?

      The thing is that there are not enough eyes out there to fill up with all the demand, so no matter how much exposure they would try you would have the same numbers of eyes but spread around more evenly, so I don't think that Twitch wants that :)))

    If I was twitch, I would divide all the streams into three categories on every game - Those with 0 - 100 viewers,
    those with 101 - 1000 viewers and the last category for those with above 1000 viewers. That way it will be easier for people to be discovered and the ones who already are discovered have their own category.

    • @garosath9977
      @garosath9977 8 лет назад +1

      keybladesarah Twitch already divides streams into games, so if there was a category for those with 50 - 100 viewers then there's not many streams in that same category. It's also way more efficient than the system that is now, where there's from 0 viewers at bottom that are helpless.
      Also, if you have 50 viewers then you honestly got nothing to complain about lol. I'm lucky if I get 1 viewer when I stream.

    Twitch couldn't care less about the smaller channels, it's very sad since there are so many people who want to grow on there. Twitch can learn very easily from RUclips in just suggesting channels for people to check out (smaller ones not the top channels). That's how people get discovered on RUclips all the time.

    • @TheAwesomeIncarnate
      @TheAwesomeIncarnate 10 лет назад +4

      Right. Then all the RUclips WHORES (like Pewdiepie) will be suggested and sponsored, and it'll get even harder for a smaller channel to become popular. Best thing to do? Allow ALL users to run Ads at set intervals or whenever they want to.

    Being a twitch streamer is a combination of gameplay, interaction with your watchers and personality. Much like the world of entertainment, not everyone is going to make it or be successful at it.. in fact, very few are really good at it.

  • @DirtySpinBros
    @DirtySpinBros 9 лет назад +9

    This video was pretty informative, unfortunately we wish there was a solution at the end of the video.
    We were victims of viewbots today on stream. We have been streaming for 6 months and have 2400 followers. Today while streaming FIFA 15, someone came into our stream threatening us and demanded a ransom of FIFA Currency. We quickly banned the account thinking nothing of it. Minutes later a very similar user name said the same thing, we banned him too. Within seconds we got a barrage of followers, (at least 300) in seconds. We quickly ended the stream after knowing something was wrong. We filed a report with twitch, and within minutes our account was suspended. Even after breaking no rules, we cannot stream. Not to mention, contacting twitch is basically a joke. Other than one email address for filing complaints we have yet to speak to anyone that can help us.
    View bots ruin this community. There is no positive side to them. If you have a good personality and good content, viewers will come. Nobody likes a phony.

      I'm fine with view bots, I mean it's the fucking internet. full of fake people.
      and the only people that negatively effected by it, are absolutely nobody.
      Think about it, so you bring 500 people to your channel, they can easily leave if they don't like the content.
      they can go back to pewdiepie or whatever it is they want. This in no way is a problem.
      you shouldn't have told twitch, Soon as you said that I knew what they would do.
      It isn't being a phony, look at these famous people, their entirely fake with alter egos.
      C'mon..
      the only people that hate view bots are the people that lack content, personality, and skill.
      and don't want to share the millions of dollars they've made playing video games, while living in their parents basements. that have literally not put in a single days worth of hard work.
      geuss what.. fuck those people
      twitch - wizardofshame
      no viewbots yet, looking forward to em.

    A simple solution would be to have an option for broadcasters to have a captcha of sorts requiring people to answer a question or put a puzzle together before speaking in the room. Also, if they fail to complete the puzzle in a certain amount of time like 2 mins they are kicked from the channel, further more, each time they fail to complete they get a note on their account, 20 or more failures in a certain amount of time and their account gets temporary blocked. To go even further, to get unblocked they will have to wait a week for the first offence, 2 weeks for second and 3rd is a perma ban. As always insta-ban for any account suspected of botting that has proof.

    This video is two years old, and this problem is still running rampant. I find Twitch's lack of action highly disconcerting, and quite infuriating. I was attacked for the first time today, and I am trusting less and less in Twitch's services to allow me to entertain and flourish in my artwork. This lackadaisical approach to fixing the problem is laughable, and quite disgusting. It should not be tolerated.

    When I was viewbotted, it was done by a guy who honestly thought he was "helping" me by boosting my views without me ever asking for it. Once I found out, I immediately notified twitch support (they gave him a very swift ban... luckily he also streamed himself setting up the viewbot program, so it was an open shut case) , and I also addressed it on stream (and highlighted it) so my viewers knew what happened.
    As far as preventing it... there really isn't much we, as streamers, can do. So long as our communities and twitch knows that we don't use nor endorse the use of viewbots, we're fine.
    If twitch were to implement a way for smaller streamers to get noticed.. that'd help against the "Pay for views" services. However, it wouldn't stop trolls from hitting random/targeted channels with ill-will. That is something twitch itself needs to fight internally.

    Listen guys view botting is not needed, if you target the right niche audience from various networks you will get them soon enough. TIPS: 1. Search Twitter add the people that have the same niche as you do. 2. When running stream set it so that your previous casts show so if anyone does stumble on you, they can watch any one of them. 3. Export your casts to RUclips, this will get more views and will help build your audience. 4. Always link your networks in the videos, you need to brand your name, you need to be active and consistent and not give up. 5. Tell everyone and anyone what you do, word of mouth plays a big part don't be afraid to tell people your a streamer. I'm new in this business myself and i'm doing research on it so i know not to go wrong. That's why i found out about xanbot, nightbot, moobot, and viewbot and i found out what viewbot does, and for me I will never use it. I will get viewers in time the legit way, everything starts small and becomes bigger just remember that!

    I think it just happened to my channel. But it was with followers...are there "follow bots"?? However, I'm not sure because of several variables. First, I was advertising a "200 follower giveaway", next I was playing a new game for my channel, and finally it was around 10:30am eastern, not my normal off hours stream time. I had about 14 viewers, bit I was getting about 3 follows a minute. After about 15 minutes I shut my channel down. I'm paranoid I guess. What do you think it?

      Well, I do hope you realize that most advanced bots are actually not logging in at the site itself? They directly connect to the main servers with the fake accounts hiding behind a proxy. Easy to prevent however and its kind of funny how Twitch already prevents you from hiding behind a proxy when you visit the site, but doesn't bother when you do it on their main servers.

    I'm certain my channel got hit up by someone else's view bot tonight, because all of a sudden my Ultimate Twitch Bot (mod bot) overlay was getting spammed with just over 100 new follower notifications... and I had just under 90 before that, so it more than doubled...
    I DID NOT ask for this and the sound of the notification was getting really annoying when going off *constantly*... I'm looking to see where to report this to twitch, but I honestly can't find where to report it that I got hit by a viewbot that I didn't want or ask for...

  • @GramOfMayo
    @GramOfMayo 9 лет назад

    I personally think they need to make a special category for "top streamers" There's no reason for them to even be in the channel to be honest. Then that gives all of us low-mid range streamers a chance to get new viewers. They also need to break it down by age range, and gender. Girls instantly get more veiwers than guys when starting out. It's not impossible to get viewers you just got to find the right game.

    I stream 6 nights a week, 60 hours a week, and have been denied partnership 9 times. Twitch just finally gave me a reason saying something like "It appears your channel is having the viewer count boosted, and because of this we cannot consider partnering you."
    I have no idea if I am being botted or not... But this si simply not fair. I bust my ass on twitch and things like this completely ruin someones goals...
    Using the site socialblade.com I can see that I gain 500+ followers a month and my growth is amazing. I have a very strong passionate following, and even average $1000+ a month in donations, yet twitch still wont partner me, because of claimed view botting.
    I have no clue what to do at this point. But this much is true. A:Twitch has no solid proof anyone is doing it, since they said it "appears" it is happening to my channel. B: They are powerless to stop it, because I have asked them for help numerous times to make it stop if it is indeed true.
    They have given me no reply about what I can do, or if I can ever even be partnered at this point..

    Well for 1 I stream on twitch and I just started, I have 7 followers, I’ve had multiple messages saying “buy followers blah blah blah” like for 1 that’s just stupid because those followers are not real people so that would be pointless and a waste of money. On the other hand, it takes hard work, time and commitment to earn followers, and I mean REAL people. For me I’ll stream for 3 hrs and have a bot viewer, which makes you think you have a person, except when they don’t talk the entire stream,it’s dumb tbh because I love talking to my viewers, so I ask them to text in chat if they are real and if I get no response then I know. For me I just wanna earn my followers, engage with them have fun and grow however fast or slow that process is. Like In all honestly I do want to get up there but I refuse to cheat to do it.

    Twitch could require CAPTCHA or something similar for viewing a Twitch stream, but that would add friction to the viewing process and would dramatically decrease the likelihood of someone "stumbling" onto your stream. Maybe if they added a CAPTCHA option that you can quickly enable/disable on demand.,,or a method of enabling CAPTCHA automatically when suspicious activity is detected. I don't know. Interesting video Chase. Thanks for posting! Definitely food for thought. I think this is a problem that requires innovation from Twitch.

    Ditto to that, I like the idea of some how promoting the newer channels or even paying a small fee to get actual viewers from twitch. I'm new to streaming on twitch and when I first heard about few bots I thought it was kind of a good idea until I read all about people getting 300 or 400 viewers. I can understand being frustrated with not getting any viewers, it is definitely hard to push yourself to continue to stream when youre hardly getting any viewers week after week

    A solution to bring unseen streamers to the light, would be to "add more filters", and friendly filters easy fast and simple to apply. That way people could find a lot of different streams based on things like city, time streaming, age, games, stable schedule etc etc..

    Like you've mentioned, there's really not much hopes of solving this because it's either shutting down innocent channels or actually catching the culprit red handed. The probability is really at a high stake of accusing the people botting and the channel that is botted. There's not much of a solution I can think to solve this other than just deal with this in the mean time.

    Viewbots are like SPAM BOTS
    They can have a CAPTCHA to minimize the vewbots entries, before entering and during an hour of gaming without interrupting.
    Accounts that were used will be banned also
    I like the way you recommend the low viewers channels

    I was a full time streamer on twitch.tv streaming 10-15 hrs a day building my stream and then someone decided to make it there mission in life to viewbot my streams to try and get me banned I had a 2700 real viewers that had followed me then when I was ip banned I appealed it 10 times then after 2 weeks got an email from twitch saying I was chat spamming and view boting witch I replied that I wanted proof and of corse with no response from twitch every time I was accused of viewboting I would window capture my desktop to prove it was not me or restart my stream so pretty much now anyone can get following of ppl false reporting a channel to get it shut down witch is bullshit! Twitch needs to fix this major issue and upgrade there support system ASAP!

      Showing whatever from the computer you are using is not going to prove anything, not saying it is you who is botting. Bots are annoying and can do anything as long as Twitch is not going to do anything about it. Bots can fake the view count, they can be added to the viewer list, they can follow channels, they can actually even chat (automated of course). Totally agree they need to fix this and they actually can. Too bad they don't give a #%@# since it helps Twitch. Look at how big we are, look at the huge traffic we have, we are a big company that's doing great! Not to mention how much of that is actually fake!!!

    how do you know if you have been viewbotted? Sometimes we will have between 70 - 120 odd folk watching our stream, it creeps up over time and then stays fairly static but we don't have an awful lot of people chatting so when people come in they ask us if we are view botting. Is that what happens, what does a streamer viewbotting look like?

      it's very easy to notice viewbots by seeing the steamer has lots of viewers but no chat activity. those bots will likely have irregular names and have no profile set up. I have seen the many times and it pisses me off that people still get away with this and ruins other legit streamers opportunities because they fail at attracting attention

    I love this type of video. First off you are very humble for taking your stream offline and not just accepting the views to boost yourself. I have strayed away from streaming for a long time because I know the new streamers are buried in the directory by the thousands of others. I just gave in and started streaming, for 2 days now, and I have streamed for atleast 14 hours in those 2 days and I have 1 follower and 35 views. I get that, but still I would NEVER viewbot because I want to be known by what kind of streamer I am, not how many views I have. I think twitch should do what you explained with the NEW STREAMER SPOTLIGHT. This could be like a hour or so time that a few new streamers become spotlighted. Then after that hour or so few new streamers show up. In all honestly though, a lot of these big streamers got big because they were youtubers or come from HUGE gaming communities, and I would recommend if you can to find a good community and promote yourself as a new streamer in their community it will draw them to want to be a part of it. Yea, I know I'm low time right now but I still have fun. I am crazeeglue on twitch and I support this message.

My wifi cut out and I then I felt bad and thought it would be over so I went back to streaming again... all the viewbots were gone I believe for the most part then like 5 minutes later they came back and I just ended it. I got a call from twitch saying I was going to be perma banned (I didnt answer or talk on the phone) and this morning I woke up and Im not banned Im really confused right now as to wht happened but now I can't stream anymore which does make me sad

    I was streaming a couple days ago and someone was botting me over 300 views, it bugs me but there's nothing I can do about it. I'm not going to end my stream just because someone wants to be an idiot. I know people that have used bots to have around 50 viewers that way they aren't at the top of the list but relatively close.
    It is hard to get any exposure on twitch because of the amount of sponsored/partnered streamers on there. depending on what game I'm playing I can hold 50 viewers legitimately but if I want to play some off the wall throwback i'll average maybe 10 viewers.

    There should be a tab when looking for new streamers under games. Like a new "streamer tab" for people who have less then say 100 viewers, as a low traffic streamer sometimes it doesn't fell worth it to stream for say 5hrs and get no one or very little people show up.

    It is hard to stream specially getting less then 10 views. Twitch should do something for newer streamer to get notice for sure. And for viewbotting is such a bad move for people want it to be rank up fast. It's better to work hard and get that views without any cheats.

    I like (and support) the idea of featured new streamers. I'd be interested to see the number of new streamers daily/weekly/monthly though. If they went by the number of new subscribers then it would remain an issue. Paid "boosts" for a stream sounds like a good idea. Maybe place them in a queue and have each one get a 10 minute feature in a group of say five streamers.

    What about a streamer side View Bot report button? Taking a proactive approach should help reduce the issue and solidify the position of honest viewers. I also would place a disclaimer on my opening screen and in my Rules section. Sure, this could be abused, but I think it adds a beneficial layer to the onion IMO.

    Twitch should have an option where new streamers are at the top of the channel page to start with... Then there should be a drop down menu or a few buttons to select the following " New Streamers " Most Popular ".. New streamers videos should be placed at the top of the channel list... then given people the option to choose to see most popular streamers

    View botting can be very beneficial to smaller channels. When streaming a big game like League of Legends, it is really tough to get noticed no matter how great of a stream you have. View bots can allow such users to get their channel up the ranks.
    Twitch needs to take smaller channels into consideration.

    • @ObakuZenCenter
      @ObakuZenCenter 10 лет назад

      'View botting can be very beneficial to smaller channels.' You are cheating and deceiving others. There is nothing beneficial about that and, if you are doing it on purpose then you should be traced and IP banned. People like you are part of the problem and we don't want you on Twitch.

      zenmonk Genryu What he meant is view bots get the smaller people up the page to get noticed by real people, once you have a few 100 real people watching your stream you stop botting. Twitch really need to help smaller people out, all they do is push the new people down and put their partners at the top because they make money off of it, it's bollocks.

    My fiancé has been streaming for one month now and hit 350 followers today! He is a stand up comedian, so that aspect of who he is may help with getting followers. (he does stream 12 to 15 hours a day too... kinda hard core) The fact that he has gotten that many followers in a short period of time has gotten him sort of noticed I guess... mainly due to word of month from the followers and in game players who he plays with. The view bot issue is horrible because he has busted his rear to get where he is at, just so some new streamer with 10 followers gets 3000 viewers (mostly bots) and just over shadows him. Granted he averages 10 viewers at least with up to 30ish at most... not bad for 1 month I think. He really wants to market his name better for his twitch, but doesn't know the right avenues to take to do so... any suggestions? (He refuses to view bot or do anything that is unethical) If it is ok to do so, this is his twitch name KilmerWK (stop by and say HI and join in on the fun)

    • @Devilin-Pixy
      @Devilin-Pixy 10 лет назад

      Host mode is a terrible feature when it comes to preventing viewbotting. When Twitch first implemented this feature, nobody could even see they were being hosted while your viewer count would go up because of it. Streamers that bot their channel used this as an excuse for the sudden raise in viewers. Recently Twitch made being hosted visible to the broadcaster ONLY. This feature is only making things more shady as it already is. Besides, it allows for new ways to increase viewers using bots, it does not help at all. Consider this: Host a channel that has 1000 fake viewers through bot(s), what will happen? Even hosting channels with inactive viewers (so called lurkers that just have a channel open to be counted) ... Twitch is basically adding a new 'grey' area, making things more shady. They should spend their money on security instead of new features!
