  • After more than 4,000 rusty bolts have been replaced with specially constructed high alloy stainless bolts from Sandvik, the job has now been completed.
But every end is a new beginning - and now a whole new chapter for the Vasa ship is launched, with bolts that will last for at least 150 years.

Takes strong slightly rusted forged bolt out and replaced it with weak skinny one designed to please the eye

@@zacharyherrington8829 The bolts are replaced, because the iron is rusting and that rust is chemically interacting with the ship, creating problems. That is the reason for the replacement, not pleasing eyes.

Appears not to be an original bolt that was 400 years old but some type of time capable was in place. But I don’t understand Swedish

The original rivets had rusted away Hundreds of years ago. The ones they replaced in this video were from the sixties and were causing problems to the ship. The people at the museum obviously know what they are doing or the ship would have turned to dust long ago. These new bolts will provide better ability to adjust as the ship moves over time and most importantly will not rust and mess with the structure of the wood.
