:'(
What a beautiful, heartbreaking and relatable line.
Feeling the hurt
@@The90slim90 Why relatable sweety? I hope you changed that❤
Pro tip: watch series on Flixzone. Been using it for watching a lot of movies these days.
I just love how this contrasts with the optimistic guitar version of 1995. The words are the same but they feel so different.
This song is heart breaking. "Just don't leave".
In the mid-90s, it's about a young man finding love and clinging to his own desire to trust it.
By 2016, it's the song of a heart-broken man who left the love of his life before her lowest hour, and couldn't be with her while she was dying.
They said it was amicable, but whether voluntary or not, he wasn't there in the end.
In the 90s, the speaker is the young lover who, as a child was left routinely in an attic, only understands love to be the lollipops and crisps a negligent parent uses to balm the relationship with their child.
He discovers real love - and impetuously is willing to abandon himself, and drown his beliefs, in order to feel like he deserves it. The song is as self-conscious as the young man - it's desperate. "Don't leave" is a cry to the parents abandoning him to his loneliness, but also becomes the cry to the new lover he can't trust to stay around.
True Love Waits, not only for the parents to return, but for a young man to develop a more mature understanding of what love should be.
And she did wait for him. She waited for him to mature.
She waited for him during countless world-wide tours.
The mother of his children, and a formidable artist in her own right.
They parted amicably just one year before she passed from a terminal disease.
In December 2016, Rachel Owen dies.
This performance from 2016 is one year after they split, four months before she passes.
The band has finally re-worked the song and recorded it - released two months before this performance.
Now, the refrain "Don't Leave" takes on a double meaning.
A cry for the loved one lost forever, but not yet actually gone?
Is it also his own empathy; imagining her cry from the grave to him: "Just don't leave"
In this moment, whether amicably or otherwise, he already had.
Lament.
Wait, he left her after the diagnosis?

Dude this has to be satire😭

The fucking feels, dude.
A song that was written for someone that once used to be there but now won't be there anymore.
Angger Rangas :”(((((
She would die four months later.
DUDE YOUR GONNA GENUINELY MAKE PEOPLE CRY! D:
It was acc written way before that
i cried the entire song. i finally understand the album version now.
It's a bossanova like The Present Tense. My mind is fucking blown.

Rip Rachel. May your soul rest somewhere better than this world.
Everyone thinks its for her , probably but he left her before she died , they got separated a few years before she finally died
@@mt3026 This song is at least 20 years old. It was definitely written for her.

The fact he is destined to never sing this song correctly is a thing of beauty
Yasss!
Oh i didnt know. Can you tell me about it?
It’s his song. Every time he sings it with various nuances, it is.done. correctly.
@@philomeleprocnee7741 He always fucks up the last verse lol this time he sang "And true love lives" twice instead of "And true love waits", sometimes is the other way around.
@@wilberts.cubero3629 and also coz it took them over 20 years to finalize a version, it started out as an acoustic song in The Bends/OKC era.
I love studio version so much. with the context of the album and the passing of Rachel Owen. It's just perfect closer for Radiohead 9th album
RIP Rachel. 😞
I like the early and late versions of this song. The later suggests more weariness, and maybe more wisdom but more scars. They remind me of Joni Mitchell’s early and 30 yr later version of Both Sides Now
To me, the later version show a deep sense of loneliness and regret, especially the last line "Just don't leave, don't leave"
SUCH A GOOD SONG
Also reminds me of listening to the 2 versions of Good Vibrations, nearly 40 years apart, and knowing everything that happened in between.
Wow, very good comparison!
I believe everything radiohead does is on purpose...
All those pianos sample playing at the same time at different speeds running, stumbling across each other makes me want to compare it to love itself...
It always sounded like water to me. It's as if the narrator's feelings is so overwhelming that he's drowning in it.
Something about the light blue lighting makes me sense feelings of goodness and innocence somewhere.
Even though the song is over 20 years old, it's only been played 27 times live in total. 24 under Radiohead, 3 times when Yorke is billed as a solo act.
R.I.P Rachel...
This is C Major, why feel so sad?.
Its the Abmaj7... That fucking chord is haunting...
because a Cmaj7 isnt a C major
Because the feeling of a song has way less to do with key and more to do with texture and tempo. For example, there are many upbeat folk and dance songs in harmonic minor that still feel happy and celebratory because of what instruments are used, how the vocalists sing the lyrics, etc. Same for this, the original acoustic guitar version sounds optimistic and hopeful with the bright strumming and faster pace. This one has a slower tempo and those murky keyboards that make it feel a lot more subdued and haunting
Maybe because of c majors' relative minor being a and the lyrics that paint the picture
3:40 When u realize u fucked up the lyrics yet again after 20 years of singing it.... & We love him for that cuz he's lost emoting and lyrics doesn't really matter cuz we know exactly what he's saying..
He always mixes up the middle verses
Nick M He didn't here, though?
He sang "true love lives" twice though.
Great job, Jonny.
They nailed it and they acknowledge it 4:48
he made good max patch!!!
Yeah! In fact, I was also congratulations Johnny Airbag and I did not notice the h LOL
Sorry, congratulating...
No! In the first sentence I was congratulating Johnny Airbag, the author of the video, who's made some similar jobs previously (see his youtube account) and I forgot the h in his name.
In the second sentence I was commenting on Thom and Jonny's gestures. They look quite happy with the result
Remei Agulles Simó oh. I see.. :)
sigh. sigh. sigh. i was lucky to be there. genius man.
You were, indeed. :')
Openly weeping at my desk. So beautiful
Such a beautiful song
so so sad ......what an interpretation of whatever he went through losing his life partner to cancer :(
so sad so so sad
There's also debate (based off lyricism) on whether or not he was faithful to her, leading to their divorce. Not to get too into their personal lives, but can you imagine the pain and guilt that comes with being unfaithful to your partner, working it out with her amicably and eventually separating, only to find out she has terminal cancer?
It's all hearsay though, so I mean no disrespect in anyway to any party.
They werent partners anymore , she died without him lol
@@mt3026 That might be the worst 'lol' in the history of the internet.
I love you Thom.
True love waits❤❤❤❤
he was definetly proud of that performance

I come back here often

1:48 I'm not living, I'm just killing time

To have your babies
I'll dress like your niece

Gitai Vinshtok the kick drum and bass make it better imo

Beautiful
I'm homesick for music. I miss them.
True Love Lives
Truly, unreal.
thoms voice is better than the record here
I like the way he sings some songs subtely on the records (ie I might be wrong) then projects more live.
I have never had more goosebumps and tears at a live show than this song at this performance. I'll always remember this moment.
Cara Bickers you were there?
Yes! I was lucky enough to attend both Shrine performances that year. Blew my mind.

i prefer acoustic guitar version.
me too
The album version is better than the guitar version. The live guitar version is better than the live album version. The ambiance and emotional punch hits hard at the end of AMSP and makes the song full. Doesn't happen here imho. If it's live, I listen to guitar, if i want to hear the song the "true" way, I listen to the album version.
HQBacon where can i hear the album version? i searching anywhere and still not found it
Angger Rangas dude all yo need to do is just buy or download their 9th album A Moon Shaped Pool. true love waits is the last song there
HQBacon The album version was recorded with the colaboration of the London Contemporary Orchestra, they don't have an orchestra live so it never sounds the same. I still liked this version a lot though, better than the acoustic guitar imo.
They really ruined this song.
That's just, like, your opinion man.
