This is such a good video how it explains the masterclass of writing in MT is, this is literally one of the first time after watching the second season of the anime made me re-watch the first season and enjoyed myself the whole time, catching stuff that gets brought up in S2, world building and stuff.
This is literally the first show that actually made read the LN after watching S2 and watching cut content from it, that is a achievement that shows MT was struck a cord in me I didn't know i needed, S3 is gonna be so good once it comes out, i just can't wait to see what happens next i just had to read the LN.
Good video!! People just can't appreciate good writing when they see it.

People just not being able to separate fiction from reality again, just another day on twitter. kinda reminds me how people will see a character that looks like a modern day culture group a little bit and assume they are the same where they have their own culture and history in a fantasy setting.

I really hate this limitation in some people. Everything is "coded" this and "dog whistle" that. Sometimes a spade is a spade, and what your reading is meant to be taken at face value. Most modern authors I've read aren't capable of the subjective things they're often accused of.

16:24. I haven't watched the Anime to this point, but as far as the source material goes (as displayed on screen), this is a profoundly unfair coloring of Roxy's position. She doesn't "seduce" (if that's the word we're going to use for the mere passing offer) Rudeus out of her desire for him, but rather because she is lead to believe Rudeus is facing an existential crisis (which they may well lose him to, and which may also cause casualties to the rest of the group), and female companionship is pitched in front of her as a potential solution. Roxy attempted to talk Elinalise into heading Rudeus's recovery, but through Elinalise's flat refusal and conversation with the others, it is made clear to Roxy that she's the girl on deck. Sure, desire was in there, but it was not a primary motivation, as seen in her willingness to allow "the love of her life" to bed her best-friend, right under her nose no less. Her primary desire was to save Rudeus by any means necessary, as demonstrated by offering him up to the group's "expert" as her first instinct.

    • @talexratcliffe
      @talexratcliffe  2 месяца назад +2

I actually had a part in the original recording that covered this, but when I was editing the audio I made some errors in both takes. Leaving them in made it sound like Roxy was doing something she wasn't doing.
Due to time constraints I had to cut that section out.

    • @bujin5455

@@talexratcliffe I see. I just felt like defending Roxy's honor, as so many people have taken shots at it, and of all the people in Rudeus's life, Roxy has repeated demonstrated the deepest and most pure love and loyalty to Rudeus. I could easily make an hour plus video essay on that point. (I know, I still have copies of the many pages I've written on this subject.)
A lot of people actually believe the same position stated in the video, and they further progress to talking about what a scumbag she is, as she take's advantage of Rudeus in his weakness in order to satisfy herself. Of course, if one reads the texts, without bias, and understandings what Roxy is fact offering, one realizes she sacrificed herself to bring him back.
By this point she knew he was married to Elinalise's grand daughter (which is 'one' reason why Elinalisa refused to do it), so Roxy's expectation was that after this indiscretion, Sylphie would banish Roxy from Rudeus's life. She also knew pregnancy was a real possibility as well. So she was signing up for a situation where she would never again see the man she had sacrificed so much of her time, energy, wealth, and effort to aid (taught him everything she knew [despite her pride], wrote him a **BOOK**, traveled across the world twice for, risked her life repeatedly in a dungeon and nearly died rescuing his mother, not to mention the expense of all this), and as a man she may of recently discovered romantic feelings for Rudeus, but never the less had loved him from the depths of her heart from the beginning; this she expected to lose. And on top of willingly losing the most important thing in the world to her, she was taking on the possibility of placing herself in a weaken state, of being pregnant, right as she would not have a home, and she would have a child who would forever remind her of what she lost. Roxy was not so randy, nor so foolhardy, as to willing lose Rudy, just so she could get her rocks off. This was a sacrifice, not an adolescent indiscretion; Sylphie even recognized it as such, and thanked her for it.

I will never understand the obsession with "real age", as though you can cut open a mind and count the rings to put a number on it. What makes real age? Your time being conscious? Are people who sleep less older then? Is it memory? Am I only 5 because my memory is shit and I can barely remember anything?
I would think that we focus on age because it gives us a ballpark figure to estimate mental maturity, which is what really matters. But surely maturity should precede age. Rudy isn't a 30 year old man in the body of a 16 yo, he never became that 30 yo man, that's the entire point. Rudy in his old life was a 16 year old in the body of a 30 year old. His body now fits his mental age.
Imo, I'd be MUCH more uncomfortable with Rudy being with a grown ass woman than him being with Sylphie.

Having read the Paul Gaiden, I can say that Paul became attracted to Zenith in the romantic sense because she reminded him of his late mother: beautiful, kind, warm, and nurturing. His mother was the only person he ever loved and felt loved by. Her death deeply affected him and served as the final fuse for the incident that saw his exit from the Notos house.
Zenith was the only member of the party he told his life's story to and she fell for him.

I found myself enjoying Mushoku Tensei as well and its nice to see someone else who does. A very interesting topic as well, I think that the polygamy in Mushoku works well for the most part and its also really nice to see characters that actually have character. My problem isn't the polygamy part personally. My mates and i were more annoyed with Sylphie's characterization, which has been a problem for quite some time, and this just emphasized it, as she's written as a doormat. Her husband promised to be faithful, and he cheated on her. Her excuse is that she expected it, and wasn't bothered too much. We found the best part was when Rudy's sister chewed him out. Personally, it would be nice if there were more consequences, but Rudy has only had a few of those. I think it would be preferred if these marriages both failed, and then he could get multiple wives down the line instead, ones that are introduced more naturally into the relationship(s)

I don't mind polygamy as long as they don't pretend the women like it: In harems the women hate each others guts and have complex heirarchies to show whose children inherit. Murder of competing women and children is normal, especially if they threaten your own child's future success. Any polygamous scenario where they women are all equal and love each other insead of first wife, 2nd wife, 3rd wife( who may as well be a prostitute) is very unrealistic. In harems the women are enemies who live together.
