GBO2 Sinanju Stein (ZA): The old 700 cost meta king!

  • This video contains two recent matches I had with the Sinanju Stein (ZA) on Gundam Battle Operation 2. It is a 700 cost raid with long range, great ranged DPS, great mobility, a get out of jail free card with its fuel tank purge, a powerful heavy attack and a 50% HP Psychoframe Resonance skill which lowers melee damage taken by 50% and buffs melee damage even further. It suffers from no dodge roll until you use the fuel tank purge, massively increased thrust usage after using the fuel purge, no leg buffer skill and no good way to break the Nu Gundam HWS funnel barrier outside of vulcan range. I decided to play this suit again since I saw people say that it was still good in the comments section of one of my videos. I think they are partially correct, it is good, but only if the enemy team isn't using Nu Gundam HWS. I hope that you enjoy watching!
    Its primary ranged weapon is a beam rifle with 1500 (4500) power, 8 ammo, 0.5 seconds cooldown, 11 seconds reload, 0.5 seconds swap time, 450m (500m) range, 4 seconds focus time and 50% stagger value. Uncharged shots don't instant stagger, charged shots instant stagger and pierce but consume 3 ammo. Uncharged shots can stop just about any incoming suit or can be used to burst down supports from a distance.
    Its primary melee weapon is a beam saber with 3100 power, 2 seconds cooldown, 0.5 seconds swap time, 100/80/64% combo modifier, 215%x2 heavy attack modifier and 3 seconds heavy attack focus time. Normal swings are fairly powerful on their own and useful for getting suits out of the way. The heavy attack is where this weapon really shines, since it has great damage and a long reaching fast animation. At 50% HP this charge time is cut in half to 1.5 seconds, further increasing potency.
    Its first sub weapon is a vulcan gun with 185 power, 30 ammo, 360 RPM, 5 seconds reload, 0.5 seconds swap, 180m range, 1110 DPS and 7% stagger value. This stuns in 2.5 seconds and has short range which is kind of meh, but it has pretty good DPS and enough power per shot to break through the Nu Gundam HWS funnel barrier.
    Its second sub weapon is a bazooka with 2900 power, 4 ammo, 6.5 seconds cooldown, 15 seconds reload, 1.75 seconds swap, 400m range and 80% stagger value. This has pretty high performance for a sub weapon, with high power and long range. You can combo this into your beam rifle to restrain enemies before dumping DPS, it also serves as an effective tool in close quarters before using your melee.
    The Sinanju Stein has 23000 HP, 18 ballistic defence and 30 in both beam and melee resist. This is pretty average HP for a raid, but low ballistic resistance and no leg buffer is definitely a downside. It has LV4 Maneuver Armor by default and gains LV3 Emergency Evasion after it uses Active Purge. Active Purge can be used once per life and is activated via the touchpad, firing two 3000 damage heavy staggering projectiles while doing a backflip animation with tons of iframes. This can be used offensively to heavy stagger enemies, defensively to get out of any tricky situation or as a mixture of both. You can use it at the same time you could use a dodge roll, but also while boosting or while in midair. After using it you consume 40% more thrust, but you also gain 5 walking speed. 5 boosting speed and 6 turning speed to somewhat make up for it.
    In terms of mobility it has 135 walking speed, 230 boosting speed, 85 thrust and 78 turning speed. This is pretty good on its own but even better once considering that it also has LV3 Forced Injector, LV3 Flight Control and LV1 Flexible Thruster. Flexible Thruster grants +10 boost speed and -50% thrust consumption while using Forced Injector or Flight Control.
    Its final skill worth mentioning is Psychoframe Resonance (ZA). This activates at 50% HP and grants +40 melee modifier, -50% melee damage taken and -50% heavy attack focus time. This makes you really hard to take down with melee attacks while also making it even easier to spam heavy attacks.
    In conclusion, I feel that while the Stein used to be extremely powerful, the changes in the meta have left it in a much worse position. I would still call it pretty good if the enemy support isn't Nu Gundam HWS, you can still play pretty safe and shoot the support from a distance. The issue is that HWS is the meta 700 cost support, and you need to waste a load of resources just to break the barrier from range, 5 beam rifle shots to be exact. Banshee Norn can also one combo you with melee, even when considering the Psychoframe Resonance melee defence buff, as well as harass you with ballistic damage. Who knows how well Xi will counter it. Since Stein is not doing that well in the meta right now, maybe it would be a good opportunity for the developers to add its missing weapons, like its shield and long beam naginata.
