WASH Challenges of Coastal Bangladesh under Climate Change Scenario

Abstract: The coastal belt of Bangladesh is one of the most climate vulnerable regions due to climate change induced sea level rise and salinity intrusion. According to the prediction of Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan (2008), by 2050 the increase in sea level rise will be 0.30 m along with the rise in saline aquifer zone by 2.27% indicating huge threat to this climate vulnerable community. It will impact water access, sanitation, health, agriculture and different aspect of lifestyle of marginalised coastal communities. This talk will focus on the WASH challenges of coastal Bangladesh under climate change scenario and some opportunities to tackle this challenge.
