I started to shop for my first projector a month ago, not knowing much about them. Initially I wanted to get a Lumos after seeing some ads on social media, then a Wanbo T2 Max. After finding out about Jayce Ooi’s RUclips channel….. the image and price for VP6 looks good, after that, saw Jayce shared a deal on Wemax Smart Lite, ordered it but had to cancel it recently due to some problems with the order. Yesterday, I threw my budget down the drain 🙈 and ordered a Mi Smart Projector 2 Pro from a local retailer. I'm thinking about doing the same, it's just quite a lot more money, I'm mostly worried that it won't last very well (lots of the cheaper projectors I saw online got black spots and stuff after like 6-9 months), so still holding back

Thank you for an informative video. I have one question.. hope you can answer Is it possible to dim / lower the brightness of the projector (the actual led light)? I know this is not something you usually want to do with a projector, but I plan on using it in a bedroom and would like to be able to use it without disturbing a sleeping partner. I noticed a "brightness" setting in your video. Does that lower the brightness of the led, or does it distort the image like a typical brightness setting on a TV? Hi Jayce, I connected my Windows PC to the projector via HDMI but the colors are awful, but when using the integrated android tv the color are perfect, I notice that from your video the color are good, have you done something special to connect the PC to the Projector?

Hi Jayce. I upgraded from Wanbo T2 Max to Projector Pro 2. It’s amazing! But it’s heavier and my previous tripod cannot support the weight. Do you have any stand or tripod that you can recommend? Must it be always pointing straight? Because I realize if I project it from the side, there is still a lighted area apart from the screen
Get a small table. Don't use stand. This is normal for all projector when not projecting straight. As I always said, direct projection gives the best image quality.
Great video. I plan to travel and use this for movies but also for working on excel documents, pdf text documents, measuring quantities on screen, well this be clear enough, sharp enough for travelling use? Durable for travel? Thank you

You are most welcome. Yes, firmware updating is slow and painful. Connection to China is not good on my ISP. But no worry, take your time. It will be updated in the end. Just leave it...

I have the Mi Projector 2 Pro. How did you do a "custom color adjustment"? The projector's background pallet is noticeable around the displayed image. It is more noticeable when the keystoning is stronger. It appears the contrast is too high but can't be changed. I've tried all typical settings but still see a noticeable non-black area when watching anything. The gets pretty warm after a few minutes as well. Is this normal for a DLP projector?
Hi Jayce, thanks for the review. Is there any difference between Mijia Projector 2 Pro and Mi Smart Projector 2 Pro or are they the same? Since I learned Mi Smart Compact Projector and Mi Smart Projector 2 are not the same, I'm being extra cautious.
I bought a global version of this projector. There are some image setting issues in the Android 9.0 OS. For one, you can't adjust custom white balance and the dynamic saturation is no where to be found so the color is always over saturated. Then if yo use custom image mode in HDMI input, when switching to the HDMI view the image is very blurry, it seems it is highly compressed / low bitrate. Then if you use a preset image mode the white balance is off so grey is having a green cast. Is there anywhere I can report those bugs to? I tried to look at their official website but it seems it is really really hard to send user feedback.
Hey, i'm noticing the exact same issue. Glad to read that someone else is having that blurry / low bitrate feel with hdmi input. The more customer feedback we send, the more chance we hate them to resolve it !

@@sutheshvasudhev7028 Mi Smart Projector 2 (non-Pro) comes with Android 6.0, Don't have HDMI ARC port, SPDIF & eathernet port. Its an absolate model which was replaced with pro variant.
I'm not sure if we're talking about the same model here guys, but I'm referring to the Mi Smart Projector 2 that Xiaomi just announced last month with Android TV OS, Xiaomi has an official page for it, TechRadar has reviewed it, I'm just unable to share links here, comment gets deleted if I do that. I do agree though that it is missing some key features as Ashok mentioned, though I'm not too sure about the Android TV OS version. Thanks for the review, it is great as always! I have been using global version about 3 weeks now, a few differences i spotted to global to chinese are(other than you adressed); Global version doesn't have zoom out or screen shifting. There is no way to turn of dynamic contrast or dynamic color. Also no custom color adjustment(only 3 option; standart-warm-cold), only a hue bar. Aslo sound presets are limited and no custom eq (this ones a bummber). Spdif and hdmi arc is only 2 channel(at least no lag or lip sync problems). And T962 cant do 4k60 youtube decoding. Netflix and prime video (installed externally) is fine but netflix does not look great. Maybe it is 720p? Im not sure but 1080p netflix from ps4 and 4k hdr from ps5 look better than internal netflix (especially with animations, you can see jagged edges on rick and morty on internal netflix but ps4 1080p netflix has smooth edges). If i buy a second one today it will be the chinese version with a hdmi stick (mi box, amazon stick, shield tv etc). Global version has worse smart hardware and netflix looks worse than external players, so it doesnt worth extra cash just for google play store in my opinion.
Thanks for the detailed explanation of the global version. Really appreciate it. But something is not right on the Netflix and 4K RUclips. Maybe firmware issue? They should work fine just like Mi Smart Compact Projector which use the same T962 processor.
Hi Paulie Walnuts. I also bought the global version. However, there were some issues. In addition to the differences from the Chinese version you mentioned, there was a symptom of pixel shake. Can you please check if you have the same symptoms as me? 1. Pixel shaking in still images, 2. @@user-nx3xq4cr2h I think this is a side effect how dlp projectors work, a lot of tiny mirrors trying to move at very high speeds to create color and shapes. But you cant see them at the distance you watch? Then it ok. You are wayyy to close to screen/wall at those videos, my artifacts are (at 120' and watch 3 meters away from screen), become visible when im closer than 1 meter.
@@jayceooi I'm guessing video filters are different on netflix apps but im not sure, posted a link with screenshots but sadly think youtube blocked it. And about 4k60 youtube, app plays video but with huge framedrops and audio glitches, sync issues. APU just cant handle 4k60 (4k24 and 1440/60 plays fine)
@@pauliewalnuts1024 RUclips does block link. I can't even see your comment in SPAM folder. For Netflix, search for 'test patterns' and use it to test resolution. For 4K60 RUclips, it might be firmware issue. Else too much background processes slow it down. It does work on Mi Smart Compact projector.

I read that the global version does not have too much picture preset adjustment. Cause I believe now 2 pro version is sold for the Global version. I bought the Xiaomi 2 pro beamer. But have some issues with it. 1) i Cant set the color temperature manualy, only 3 presets cold, normal and warm. 2) You tube main viewing window is small compaired with other items

In a review, native contrast 500/1 was measured, don't you think this value is too low. How is the contrast according to you, did you like the blacks? Do you think it's viewsonic m2 or mijia 2 pro?
@@ufukg.355 No idea on the value. Black is not as black when compared to those projectors with lower brightness. But this is expected. Grey screen is needed for projector with 1000+ ANSI Lumens. Black screen for 2000+ ANSI Lumens. And you can project bigger and brightness. As for M2, it is just 0.33" DMD just like Mi Smart Compact. Mijia 2 Pro is much better with 0.47" DMD. Are there fake versions of this being sold? The one I have is a globe version with google play but there’s no game mode and hdr seems to not work with a PS5. The ps5 says the projector is not supported with hdr.
@@jayceooi Thanks Jayce. I contacted Xiaomi support, they just gave me standard troubleshooting tips(which I've already done) or just to return it under warranty. Haha. I'm thinking of going with the latter. Perhaps the Wemax Vogue Pro might be better for me or just a DLP projector.

Thanks , awesome review.. however if i compare screenshots from 2 pro vs smart compact both are visually same (2 pro is bit more crispier) but not much noticeable, brightness bit lesser in 2 pro (may be due to custom setting done)... If I use Chromecast, can I use all settings of projector 2 pro like brightness, zoom in/out, different color modes? Do we have all these settings for zoom in/out and other brightness options in smart compact projector? Was thinking if good idea to combine smart compact projector + yamaha yas-109 for sound .. pls advise (read somewhere picture 10 feet away in front while sound coming from backside (projector speaker) can be bit odd)

Always use external speaker system if possible, but do take note that Mi Smart Compact has Bluetooth and AUX output only. So no surround like 2 Pro...

Is it possible to dim / lower the brightness of the projector (the actual led light)? I know this is not something you usually want to do with a projector, but I plan on using it in a bedroom and would like to be able to use it without disturbing a sleeping partner.
I noticed a "brightness" setting in your video. Does that lower the brightness of the led, or does it distort the image like a typical brightness setting on a TV?

Hi Jayce. I upgraded from Wanbo T2 Max to Projector Pro 2. It’s amazing! But it’s heavier and my previous tripod cannot support the weight. Do you have any stand or tripod that you can recommend? Must it be always pointing straight? Because I realize if I project it from the side, there is still a lighted area apart from the screen
Get a small table. Don't use stand.
This is normal for all projector when not projecting straight. As I always said, direct projection gives the best image quality.

I have the Mi Projector 2 Pro. How did you do a "custom color adjustment"? The projector's background pallet is noticeable around the displayed image. It is more noticeable when the keystoning is stronger. It appears the contrast is too high but can't be changed. I've tried all typical settings but still see a noticeable non-black area when watching anything. The gets pretty warm after a few minutes as well. Is this normal for a DLP projector?

I bought a global version of this projector. There are some image setting issues in the Android 9.0 OS. For one, you can't adjust custom white balance and the dynamic saturation is no where to be found so the color is always over saturated. Then if yo use custom image mode in HDMI input, when switching to the HDMI view the image is very blurry, it seems it is highly compressed / low bitrate. Then if you use a preset image mode the white balance is off so grey is having a green cast. Is there anywhere I can report those bugs to? I tried to look at their official website but it seems it is really really hard to send user feedback.

No such issue because 2 Pro is using glass lens unlike Mi Smart Compact Projector (plastic).

Thanks for the review, it is great as always! I have been using global version about 3 weeks now, a few differences i spotted to global to chinese are(other than you adressed);
Global version doesn't have zoom out or screen shifting.
There is no way to turn of dynamic contrast or dynamic color. Also no custom color adjustment(only 3 option; standart-warm-cold), only a hue bar.
Aslo sound presets are limited and no custom eq (this ones a bummber). Spdif and hdmi arc is only 2 channel(at least no lag or lip sync problems).
And T962 cant do 4k60 youtube decoding. Netflix and prime video (installed externally) is fine but netflix does not look great. Maybe it is 720p? Im not sure but 1080p netflix from ps4 and 4k hdr from ps5 look better than internal netflix (especially with animations, you can see jagged edges on rick and morty on internal netflix but ps4 1080p netflix has smooth edges).
If i buy a second one today it will be the chinese version with a hdmi stick (mi box, amazon stick, shield tv etc). Global version has worse smart hardware and netflix looks worse than external players, so it doesnt worth extra cash just for google play store in my opinion.

@@user-nx3xq4cr2h I think this is a side effect how dlp projectors work, a lot of tiny mirrors trying to move at very high speeds to create color and shapes.
But you cant see them at the distance you watch? Then it ok. You are wayyy to close to screen/wall at those videos, my artifacts are (at 120' and watch 3 meters away from screen), become visible when im closer than 1 meter.

And about 4k60 youtube, app plays video but with huge framedrops and audio glitches, sync issues. APU just cant handle 4k60 (4k24 and 1440/60 plays fine)

For Netflix, search for 'test patterns' and use it to test resolution.
For 4K60 RUclips, it might be firmware issue. Else too much background processes slow it down. It does work on Mi Smart Compact projector.

1) i Cant set the color temperature manualy, only 3 presets cold, normal and warm.
2) You tube main viewing window is small compaired with other items
Yours must be global version. It's normal for number 1. I have no idea on number 2. Mine is China version.

In a review, native contrast 500/1 was measured, don't you think this value is too low. How is the contrast according to you, did you like the blacks? Do you think it's viewsonic m2 or mijia 2 pro?
@@ufukg.355 No idea on the value. Black is not as black when compared to those projectors with lower brightness. But this is expected. Grey screen is needed for projector with 1000+ ANSI Lumens. Black screen for 2000+ ANSI Lumens. And you can project bigger and brightness.

Are there fake versions of this being sold? The one I have is a globe version with google play but there’s no game mode and hdr seems to not work with a PS5. The ps5 says the projector is not supported with hdr.

Always use external speaker system if possible, but do take note that Mi Smart Compact has Bluetooth and AUX output only. So no surround like 2 Pro...

It seems you mentioned the global version uses T962 chip so its inferior to the China version but the global model Iam seeing in Malaysia local stores are using T972, 0.47 DMD, android TV 9 OS, seems to be able to zoom and adjust colors/ picture mode now?
