this is my favorite type of coach. never hesitates to tell you when it's an inch off. seems like he visibly got some good steam on your lead hook. the locked elbow really helps.
That's because it applies to a good listening student. When the student is more keen to learning and actually listens. The coach is more engaged and motivated to teach. Apllies to all subject, not only combat sports.
Youre a real warrior because you dont try to hide behind a facade of perfection, as great as you are you inspire people by showing us that just like everyone else you can be off, you can stand to learn and are willing to be taught. You make us feel like if we work hard we too can be great. Respect!
These boxing gems are so effective and efficient, this is one of the most objectively useful videos I've seen in years. The short straight setup is so crucial. And that overhand the coach has you exhibiting is the cleanest, sharpest overhand I've ever seen on film. This coach deserves more attention
Boxers are soo fluid with their hands and movements. Only if more boxers would transition to mma, we would see great hands in mma which we don't see enough of
What we usually see is Grapplers and MT kickers getting some punching notions to round up and jumping into the cage. I'm not sure being a hands artist with kicking and grappling notions would lead to good results in mma, but I would love to see it.
U have a point but no matter how good strikers u no match to a pro ground artist boxer change their training and style in mma one wrong strike it will lead to sleep to bjj I mean mma is more dangerous to single style depend how to use it .
The coach's eye is lovely. Can tell he is feeling and seeing all the details and his pattern recognition can tell if something is off immediately and can explain the principles behind his criticism smoothly. Excellent coach. Can see you leveling up clearly during your session.
Great coach. Either it's "good quality" or "ah, no no no". Caught myself instantly studying the differences between the "good quality" and "no no" punches. 😄
Had the same issue with my jabs and crosses. Amazing how much more you hit when you correct the two simplest things: 1. keeping the elbow inside 2. snapping instead of going for power Amazing video
This is going to help me tremendously. I'm saving this for years to come and keeping it in my 'MMA' playlist to go over again and again. You've shared with all of us a proper boxing warmup consisting of relevant + boxing-specific shoulder endurance drills, as well as incredible technical queues taught from an elite coach. This video alone will give me a significant technical boxing advantage when I start my amateur muay thai career. Jeff Chan, I am forever in your gratitude for the content you put out on a consistent basis. You've continued to improve and impress. Keep it up and you'll make it big in the big leagues.
It's huge. Not seen in this video: weight room, pool, locker room, lobby area. Downside is that the area Jeff is training in is partially outdoors so it's hot AF.
Super fascinating to watch such an advanced fighter spend so much time on the “basics.” shows you how important it is and also reflects a degree of humility
Can I say, I hope the world takes note at your awesome ability to talk about your weaknesses, and correcting them! Such a good attitude, humble, and inspiring

Good quality training right there! love the videos because not only are you teaching thousands of people but also constantly learning along the way. so much respect for tht🙌
How awesome is this, before you trained here I noticed you would slightly overextend the cross in order to make contact (I do as well). Now in all your current videos I see you almost always employing the slight step forward to achieve a greater range. Props to you brotha, the ability to improve is uncanny.
"Ah, no no no no!! Good Quality!!" XD That Do Dong guy is funny, like his attitude and way of teaching, he doesn´t yell, just say in where you´re messing it up and in where you´re great. BTW greetings brother, glad to see you going beast as always.

Very humble of you to publicly show what you still stumble on even being pro. Everybody has areas that need work but not many are open to share them to help others 👌
Its seen as a relic nowadays but I believe many wersterners would benefit greatly from having the soviet-style boxing footwork fundamentals explained to them, it all makes so much more sense when you have a clear and strict logic behind every single step and can walk backwards or sideways while punching with perfect form and balance. In western (i.e. american style) gyms you far too often see these sort of "whatever goes" situations when it comes to footwork.
Amazing video Jeff. I'm constantly looking for boxing videos explaining correct form/ posture/ and weight distribution/shifts from one foot to the other when boxing, as I believe this has the highest priority because it can dictate the range, what strike will follow etc. Your coach does a really good job explaining that, and I would truly like to see more in depth technical videos like this one. Thank you!
Hi Jeff, I realize that boxing (or fighting in general) is a matter of continous sequences of well planned movements. We can learn a lot from chess in which every move is always in relation with the previous move but also with the next move. I realize that I put less attention and awareness to some parts of the whole. Like the retractions after a big punch, which is actually a preparation for the next move. I tend to put much effort to deliver a punch, but "forget" that the other parts, which are the preparation and the completion of the punch are equally important. Like Yin and Yang. I tend to focus on the Yang, therefore neglecting the Yin.
This is what I love about martial arts. You can ALWAYS learn something new. And you can always keep improving your fundamentals. It's a lifelong process!
Great video! Just an observation: This is boxing tailored specifically for MMA. There’s some real advantages of going to an pure boxing academy like RGBA in Riverside CA. I notice that there’s little emphasis on this particular session on defensive responsibility as keeping the “home hand” high and using your shoulders to protect your chin. Example- try throwing a jab with your thumb down at the end of the punch. You’ll notice your shoulder will rise up and protect your chin (same goes for your right cross). You can also vary your jab throwing it “thumb up” like Pacquiao to split through someone’s high guard. Last call out, I only saw long hooks/ check hooks being thrown. I’m some situations in the pocket, throwing short hooks will deliver the most power and precision. (Short hook= thumb facing you and back fist facing up/ Check or Long hook= palm facing you and back fist towards the opponent) Anyhow, this is good boxing for MMA but you’ll get make some serious progress with the hands by going to a pure boxing gym. Keep up the great work!
How you felt in this video is how even experienced boxers feel when a technician really takes a microscope to their technique. Different people have different schools of thought when it comes to boxing. For example, when you were hitting the cross followed by the left hook, I heard my old coach in my head screaming "pivot on the lead foot, don't take your foot off the ground, this isn't a dance competition!"
