Your new arrangement is so cohesive now! And I do like the new filming spot better. I have my 2 machines at 90 degree angles from each other and it makes transitioning so easy. I also purchased a Raskog rolling cart from IKEA for my most used tools and just move it with me.
Hi Whitney! Love your sewing space! Just one suggestion (if I may)… Is there anyway you can move the big quilt to the wall above the brown pieces of furniture in your new space? You would need to move the chair so the back of the chair faces the quilt. I think the quilt was a nice background to your videos and the colors complemented you nicely.
Love your reorganization and redesigned setup!! I’ve had my machines setup nearly exactly as you’ve done. Great minds, I’m thinking!☺️ My much loved HD9, Luminaire xp3, and BL Triumph serger/coverstich. I agree, our “circle of Heaven!!” ❤
A few years ago I bought the Janome HD9 semi-industrial because I don’t have room for a true industrial. I love, love, love that machine and use it for everything, even my knits. Contrary to popular belief, you do not absolutely need a zig-zag machine to sew knits. You just use a slightly longer stitch length and very gently stretch where needed. Now, I do finish the edges with my serger to make them neater, but that’s personal preference. The only time my zig-zag machine gets used is if I need a buttonhole, or a “fancy” stitch for something else.
All of you did an awesome job on the set up. Everything looks so nice. We have had 2 wonderful days of spring type weather here in Virginia. Today was 77 degrees. Back to reality though with rain coming and Monday back in the 40’s. Got some new patterns today so hopefully I can get busy on them.
Your new layout is wonderful! I just finished going through my patterns and my fabric and log them into stash hub and I'm so excited I did that because now I know what I have.
Great to see your new creative spaces set up and ready to go. It looks and ‘feels’ like you! I am waiting for delivery on some new storage for my little area so I’m going to channel my inner interior designer and hopefully have a beautiful, more functional space emerge. So inspiring to see you and Jenny working away together. So nice to know that she is now working with you full time. Have a great sewing weekend and see you next vlog!
Nice! I can feel your energy being revitalized since Jenny came on board. I hated seeing you burning out. Could you consolidate all your hanging clothes onto the portable rack and move all the machine tables on the wall down toward/into the closet indent. That would allow both towers of the blue drawer desk to be on the sewing side of the industrial machine. It would give you a very spacious L of convenient sewing/work space (or switch the blue drawer desk with the one in the middle to form a drawer-less L with the industrial.) You could maybe convert the current closet indent’s upper space to house several shelves for your leather goods and other less frequently used supplies. Shifting the desks might even allow you to eke out enough room to have a gap between the industrial and loaner Bernina to avoid always having to walk around the pillar to sew. Just some thoughts/ideas you didn’t ask for and are obviously free to ignore if they offend.
Makes so much more sense! I get that you wanted a studio space, but it has to work for you. I think the fabric and cutting table together will be great…the table by the fabric bins will make it easy for keeping things organized too. I have been sewing up a storm since the holidays, lots of things on the go. Great to have your Buddy full time. Wow!
Whitney -- If you have already shared - please tell me which video -- if not, please also share your wall storage system (IKEA??) and what is holding the serger and sewing machine threads as well as what iron you use. Thanks
Wow--thanks for asking, I had to go back to a video from 2018 to get some of those details--check it out at ruclips.net/video/rUPZxJtQF4o/видео.htmlfeature=shared
So nice to have all that space, I have a separate room that I do my cutting and storing my fabric, but I don’t have nearly as much space as you do, but then again, I don’t need it like you do.
I love it! Great job! Looks like the work flow will be better for you. I absolutely love my Berninas. The Bernina 435 is on sale for January nationwide at a great price, it’s a very good choice for dressmakers. Also, my area Bernina store (Omaha) has a sale on some of their floor models.

I have other craft type hobbies that are sharing space in my sewing room, and it's really bugging me. Hopefully this summer I can move some things into the other spare bedroom. Oh, and your fabric storage drawers are a great idea too.
Good morning, Whitney & Jenni! The first thing I noticed was the sound quality has greatly improved! Although we won’t notice, but having your machines set up in that order and in what appears to be an inverted “L” shape should benefit you greatly with efficiency as you move from one machine to another. Having the console behind and to the back of your wing back chair lends a nice “come chat” vibe too! I can’t believe you and your crew got this done in a short day! On the subject of Bernina ❤ Sewing Machines, I’ve been an owner and of fan for years. In my humble opinion, they are the best! Love your new set-up!
It's a Singer 99. I got it free from my Aunt's church garage sale and then I had it refurbished and rewired in 2020. I have the bentwood case that goes over it as well, but it's broken and no longer latches onto the machine. Its a beautiful machine, but weighs a ton!
Missed your chair videos. Very nice set up. I wondered back when you had it separate, how it would work. As far as your machines go, I would LOVE to know the REASON you chose the machines your did and more about the after thoughts of the purchases - pros and cons.
To be honest, when it came to purchasing my machines, I really just went off what my friends were using and loving. I bought the industrial at the same time my employer (at the time) was buying new industrials machines for her workroom. The Babylock serger I bought at the same time my mentor, Joyce, was buying a new serger. The Janome CoverPro I bought after a friend of mine, who runs an alterations business, bought hers and loved it. The Berninas all came about when I started working with University of Sewing. I was in the market for a small/travel machine and then a serger and I just really liked what they had available.
@@TomKatStitchery Well my well loved Project Runway machine has been over worked with thick materials and has to be laid to rest. I am really struggling with the decision on what to buy next. I want a high quality machine that can do delicate work as well as coats and such. I like to sew fast and I like the basic bells and whistles. (for Free $$, too, lol)
I bought the Janome 900cpx. Eh, it does one thing great, but I only use it for hemming knits and it was $600. I kinda regret it. I could have bought another Featherweight! If you have the money for all the toys, great. But you can sew most of what you need with anything that has a zig zag. I do love my 20 year old serger and it’s a necessity for me.
I have a couple of videos on the channel that show how I use my coverstitch. I use it for my hems on my knits as well as construction on my swimsuits. When you only use the 1 needle, it works as a chain stitch. This means it is a straight stitch on the right side and then a small looping stitch on the back. It's wonderful for garments that need to stretch a lot (like activewear or swimwear), but that need more precision than a serger can allow. I sew with knits quite a bit, which means I use my coverstitch quite a bit as well!
