what i think? i think ur overdramatic. what you say is like saying the insect glaive is dead becuz its aerial damage is lesser than in the two previous game or that lbg is dead becuz hbg have rapidfire now; its simply not true becuz they have just change the flow of all weapon cb included, you just need to find new combo like everyone else. the only difference compared to other weapon is that u dont have a dps or flow buff (think lance hh or ig) because the charge blade always was the biggest damage dealer and didnt needed such thing.
@@AokiZeto wtf are you on about we found the new combo immediately: spam ed1>ed2 and add in aed1>aed2 on topples cb has a pre-buffing/resource requirement: charging the shield and charging phials cb has never been the biggest damage dealer in any game it was near top tier in 4u and high tier in sunbreak i think ur dum
As an LS main, I would've been more than happy for the LS to stay the same as it was in Iceborne. I wanted them to buff CB, Lance and add cooler looking weapons for all weapon categories. (I miss the King Atillart Sword)
i really do like how sunbreak is almost even between the 2 styles. gives you a choice on which monster is suited for one or the other. i dont exactly want to just stick to savage axe all the time. i mean if going to SAED takes longer and is more riskier why not make it hit really hard.. like High Risk High Reward type of deal.
Only thing that makes me sad is how you can only activate Savage Axe after a perfect guard or focus strike. I want to manually activate it like in World.
You can actually bring small barrel bombs and perfect guard the explosion like ppl did in subreak for the counter morph slash buff, pretty annoying though.
SAED is what made me really like the weapon but now is just sad, not only the SAED damage is incredibly weak compared to just use axe swings it also was made harder to deploy for no apparent reason. All i have is hopium
I remember how I used to play CB in MHGen, it was very fun and my favourite moves were the SAED and energy blade. I did not play CB for even 5 hunts in Worlds/Iceborne because they changed the big explosion to tiny little explosions on the ground.
You are absolutely right. They literally killed SAED. SAED has no range or spread. Having to do a AED for the SAED was probably the worst thing they could’ve did to the weapon. The new mechanics for savage axe is cool and you doing more damage but what about my defense or when a monster moves a lot. You cant counter or block with savage axe. Why people like SAED play style you have a balance of defense and offense. Guard point is dead too. Perfect guard is easier to do and you have no knockback.
Doing AED first and then following up with SAED is the worst thing Capcom did to Charge Blade and I shared my feedback to change AED back to its neutral SAED.
I feel you about guard points, guard points are my identity in World and Rise. My only hope is that skills or decorations will make it worthwhile to play in a more defensive and counter attack play style.
Tbh what made CB fun for me is the guard points. In Iceborne, guard pointing with offensive guard sfx is so satisfying. Saed/aed is just an icing on the cake. In Sunbreak, the CMS enables us to guard point consistently whether you're in axe mode or sword mode. You also have many options with cpp, you can morph to axe then gp the next move, recharge your sword or go straight to saed. The fact that they made guard points irrelevant is just frustrating. it's literally designed as a budget switch axe now. The reason why I prefer SAED is because it utilizes guard point the most. At this point, Wilds CB is just another form of up/down spam in World. I'm so cooked right now since swaxe, cb and IG is my top three weapons 😭😭😭
@ratkingkingofrats1525 yes, they made every swaxe attack weak and made the full release slash the strongest attack. Even then, it's still the weakest overall. It was so bad to the point where Speedrunners start to drop as many rocks as they can just to get lower times 💀
It's funny you call it budget switch ax because the switch ax is one of the weakest weapons right now in the current state of the game in wilds. Whereas the charge blade is actually one of the top four strongest
LS - gets a bunch of cool new moves with no real diminishing downsides: Other weapons get shafted for literally no reason. I play and like all 14 weapons but there's a clear imbalance and its kinda annoying ngl
like dont get me wrong LS is a fun weapon but its lost all and any risk to the point where the highs of it dont feel as good. landing a ISS in world was so satisfying, the camera, the hitstun, plus the high partbreak meaning you normally got at least a flinch, and knowing I had the risk of losing gauge. but landing it in wilds felt kinda meh (although so do most weapons, beta was lacking hitstop everywhere imo). not like I was even using iai stance much because i didnt even need the gauge regen because of the new spirit charge move.
LS players loves helmbreaker so much and hate losing red gauge when misses the helmbreaker, the dev: (give it Spirit Release Slash after performing a Helm Breaker, and able to cancel the Helm Breaker if missed) CB loves SAED, the dev: (make the SAED cumbersome to use and make it weak.) IG loves Aerial playstyle, the dev: (remove aerial playstyle) Lance loves counter thrust, insta-block, shield charge and most important it's fluid playstyle, the dev: (remove them completely in game and make it slow and clunky mess to use) LS is not beating the favorite child allegations atp.
@@CatWithThumb I think it's by design, LS was babied since I started in worlds. My understanding of this weapon was always that it wants you to feel good at the game with minimal actual skill required.
This I said the same thing. When 70 to 80% of the player base is playing ls that should tell you something they need to rework the bottom 5 weapons bad
As a CB main. I love the 4u style the most. Now the beta tells me the devs wanna double down on mainly end game IB game play which is 80 percent you running in axe mode and walking and rolling like a turtle. Given that you dont have the defence like in rise/sunbreak from axe mode. Also there is no freedom to even turn the sword attack 30degrees in the combo anymore if you don't use focus aim. The cb looks fast but actually is so clunky in some inputs. They even give us the rise rolling into 180 return stroke but the input is so delayed n weird. CB looking like a stiff weapon without FOCUS aim. They make gp to savage axe window very tight compared to perfect guard to savage axe mode. feels even more flow chart now for cb where u just go in sword mode just to get shield up and phials again and back to being a full time pizza cutter. NO cool SNS positioning with side hop cancels etc.
I’m so glad other people are saying this, CB feels so butchered and it’s identity gone ever since the origin of savage axe. I’ve hated it from the beginning
The main reason I liked CB was the huge shield with a nice sword that can sometimes deliver one powerful attack by turning into an axe. Guard points are also very fun and for me deliver the best power fantasy of being a "tank". But it seems that none of it is left... Also, what if I still enjoy wide axe attacks, but hate pizza cutter mechanic? Sucks to suck I guess I mean, it's called "Charge Blade", not "circular saw on a stick"
The elemental AED playstyle in iceborne is my favorite style of CB, you activate savage axe to do more damage but stay in sword mode to dance with the monster, GP>AED to snipe the head, ED-ED2-AED when the monster is down. The time you spend between sword mode and axe mode is pretty balanced, you pretty much use all of CB's movest in the fight, and the only move rarely used in this playstyle is the SAED(when your shield charge is about to expire so you would need to reactivate savage axe anyways). This would probably work for the current Wilds version CB moveset, but without crazy elemental boost skills impact CB would probably outdamage elemental CBs. Also, you need both crit and elemental damage for this build so it's really unlikely it will be super strong in the base game when the number of skills you can fit in is limited. I don't have anything against SAED spam, but it really is too simple to play it becomes kinda boring over time. Sunbreak SAED is kinda fun, especially when you see insane numbers like 1500*5 for a single SAED, but counter peak performance really ruined it for me, just becomes too spammy for my liking. I understand it is a necessary move for the flow of combat in sunbreak, but I would prefer if you need to at least time your cpp, like 5 phials if countered in the first 12 frames upon activation, 12~24 4 phials, 24~36 3 phials etc. But no they just want to make it easy for players, what a shame. I am probably the only player you could find who dislikes this beloved move LOL. As for savage axe, I hate savage axe in sunbreak PERIOD, low damage, low mobility, forbids sheath and morphing back to sword, air dash gets old real quick, only good thing is they gave axe mode a guard point. Axe hopper is GOATED, bring it back in the DLC pls. I am kinda done with CB so my original plan is to main switch axe in Wilds, but Capcom just made it into a Walmart version of SAED charge blade LMAO, I honestly dunno what to do now.
Different play styles being relatively balanced should be a given. Some people like savage, some people like saed, hell some people like to spam oc sword mode too, it's one of the first things people tested in the gameshow. Looking at their intentions in design and balancing though, I really don't think the play styles would be balanced, and I'm afraid people saying that set and skills would fix saed are just huffing cope. Look at savage design. They removed the ED resource hindrance, removed AED animation discouragement, added AED follow up, all of which contribute to savage phial chops having skyhigh uptime. On the contrary, SAED loses neutral saed. Using an AED before adds a considerable commitment to an already high commitment move. Granted you can GP SAED, but remember, while savage only need to GP once to access it's main play styles for like a minute to come, SAED needs to set up for resources in advance and GP for every single opportunity of an SAED. Also, this takes away from big brain gamble prediction SAED, unless you are seriously suggesting people use barrel bomb for that. They hard buffed savage play style uptime, and brushed SAED uptime to the side. I don't know how people think set and skills would salvage this. I sure as fuck hope It would get better, but all we can do is speculate. For the time being, it's absolutely valid to call shit for what it is. Savage stomps on SAED.
Great minds think alike! I hope this gets introduced in Wilds' DLC Master Rank Expansion, and not just for CB but for all weapons too! Great way to bring back Aerial Style from Gen/GenU.
I'm sorry but this is completely trash. It went from CB to switchaxe 2.0. Reminds me of the switchaxe, axe spam. I know not everyone liked saed spam but it should be optional. Seen this coming when world released and they made the chainsaw bit. And they wonder why 80% of the player base plays LS. Everything gets gutted anytime it competes with it. They need to look at the data and the 5 least used weapons need major work.
i want to go back to 4u. simpler times when gp was important and both sword combos and axe combos were important... now i'm forced to play budget switchaxe
*Switch Axe that's (at least in the demo) better than the actual Switch Axe Though I admit that I love chainsaw, and I guess that's why I still enjoy Wilds CB :p
And then you fight Tidal Najarala like I did in G rank a few days ago and turn it off again. I went back to 3U instead, I love the simpler times in Mon Hun, where you took damage where you got it and from whatever attacks you could and that was enough to get the job done.
Charge Blade really wasn't that complicated before, certainly not as complicated as the memes made it out to be. But now it really is the overly complicated, over-engineered weapon people always said it was. It baffles me how people think it's a net improvement. You already have to manually charge the weapon TWICE to even get to SAED, now they've made it more complicated AND nerfed the damage.
I've hated Savage Axe since it came out. If I choose to use the Axe, it's for reach purposes only. It's not because I want to use the Axe any more than I have to, or I'd play swaxe
One thing that I did not like with Wilds savage axe is holding the buttons to perform the multi hit effect. It's pretty awkward to use specially since you get a lot of forward momentum when performing the A or B attack. Holding focus and correcting the camera sometimes messes with my inputs.
Something that might make your life a little easier in the full game is that power axe doesn't check if you're holding the same button you used to do the attack when it needs to know to do ticks or not. It just checks if you're holding any of triangle, circle, or r2. So in theory you could completely avoid claw by pushing circle for ed, moving thumb to right stick to aim, and pushing and holding r2 to do ticks. Although honestly it's probably just easier to claw.
I really just want guard points to activate Savage Axe, perfect guard feels like it replaced guard points right now and that doesn’t feel right to me. That’s my only gripe rn
I think thwy could make weapons that have better savage axe and weapons that have better saed multipliers, similar to how gunlance have 3 tipes. maybe related to phial types idk. but i like the idea of weapons specializing in different parts of their core kit for cases like this
While I'm not a meta player or anything like that, I have mained CB since GU, and I think that trying to balance the two playstyles of CB since Iceborne has been a struggle for the developers of Monster Hunter. Like you said, early Sunbreak was roughly around the time when both playstyles were even, and it was during that time that I felt content and had fun swapping between both styles in Sunbreak. With this Wilds beta and the lead up to it, knowing that SAED was locked behind a combo of moves or guard points slightly killed a part of the weapon for me. It's why I feel awful trying to do a SAED in World, knowing that I'll get more practical results with using Savage Axe instead; it's a very similar situation because I frankly love both styles of the weapon, and it sucks seeing one side get gutted to an extent in my eyes. I still had fun overall despite some of these changes (Savage Axe was very fun in the beta), but I do hope that SAED can be on par with Savage Axe once the full game releases.
CB feels off for the reasons you mentioned. I enjoy the Savage Axe Mode, but the way the weapon works right now feels too one dimensional. Using SAED feels horrible when the Phials could be used to power the Savage Axe Mode until the end of time. When I use SAED, I practically lose DPS while committing to spending more time on building phials... Play style right now: 1. Build phials + perfect block 2. Thrash away 3. Build phials + focus wound 4. Thrash away 5. Win zZzZz
It might be skill issue, but I just don't enjoy savage axe as much because of the terribly clunky movement and lack of defensive options. And also, why the hell would capcom go out of their way to remove core features or alternate playstyles of weapons??? They had literally no reason to remove SAED from neutral.
Saveaxe in wilds it is not clunky at all actually, especially with focus mode. Though the clunkiest part of cb is the ass saed multis and the fact you can’t immediately go into it tbf. Another huge clunky part is that you can’t get perfect guard from gps. Seriously if we can get perfect guard on gps and activate saveaxe that way the weapon would feel far better. The ant of times I perfectly timed a gp but get no perfect guard hurts
@@s2wuolf508 Mate, you said it's not clunky at all, only to follow with describing how it is very clunky. Your input is very appreciated, but I just found that funny.
@@yakov9903 I thought this was how the attack was supposed to work, ripping the wing out from the ground away from its body(though sometimes it teleports to the side of the trees)
I've come to the realization that Capcom mixed up the identities of swaxe and cb. It's no wonder I felt like swaxe was missing something and cb had too many questioning choices removed or locked behind something. Its like they were thinking of the wrong weapon will creating their movesets for Wilds.
Man, I'm not even a CB main but I really love the SAED playstyle. The early Sunbreak patch was a pretty sweet spot for both styles of CB but the Elemental SAED getting too strong in later updates really made Capcom screw SAED players huh. While we're at it, Lance's backward Guard Dash and Leaping Thrust feel like they got nerfed in Wilds beta test as well lol Like yeah, I can see Leaping Thrust getting damage nerf being reasonable but Guard Dash getting a delayed Guard before dashing backward isn't even a fair nerf. Both of these moves were like ones of the very few saving graces for Lance in Sunbreak, yet Capcom nerfed it in Wilds anyway. It's a pretty damn stupid balance.
THANK YOU FOR THIS!! I was planning to do my own rant about Wilds CB, but you saved me the time I hate this CB playstyle so much, all I did was spamming mouse 2 and I was getting 6-7 min runs on Rey Dau (capturing). Some of those runs I was not even charging my shield
I don't know about the motion value but, why they think it's a good idea to make an easy-to-miss move like SAED to be worse by having it locked behind an AED combo and extent an already long ritual performing to be even longer. Personally I don't like Savage Axe because I feel like the gameplay loop is too similar to Switch Axe. I can only hope they will balance it between the 2 play-styles.
When I saw double charged phials i thought this was the way capcom tried do balance SAED spam playstyle. With Saw_Axe high dps uptime, SAED would be more Sword mode focused becouse you need to charge twice now. But numbers proven me wrong, saw_axe charge uptime being almost infinite now while SAED deals less damage. Seems like even with motion value changes, it's lost cause with how phial charging is gimped towards EAD spam.
I predict that we will rejoice for the SAED play style in the Wilds expansion as it will add some cool new tricks for it. Savage Axe was added in Iceborne, so we can expect additions to movesets.
Axe hopper is definitely my favorite part of Rise/Sunbreak. I remember when hunting with friends and the monster was downed I immediately ran to its head, activated the skill, then just proceeded to yell "AXE HOPPEEERRRR" as I came crashing down with a SAED. I don't yell it as much anymore, but man it felt good.
@@nword9239 true. Maybe its because of the traditional japanese origin from the whole katana thing and because its the most used weapon overall. A good take from capcom would be to look for the least used weapons and why that is and do something good to them 👍
5:05 ok hear me out: it’s looking like there’s gonna be a CRAP ton of unique skills now given set bonuses AND weapon skills are here, so assuming everything in the demo is just base TEMPLATE; then I can see this build being really fun. In few words: Bloodborne Whirlygig Saw finally, that kinda awkward but DESPARATELY offensive way of sticking to the monster staring it in its face as much as possible. With skills that is. I also think now that to do the SAED there’s more steps aka more HITS, it’s also going to be a really fun play style on elemental. C’mon, if Sunbreak had SAED’s doing 1,200+ sometimes then I don’t think it’s a stretch to hope that this high rank game can give us at least close to half that at max DPS for the new style, so with the more moves overall it’s gonna be just like fireworks of elemental boom go brrrrrs~
I feel I love with charge blade from the guard point mechanic and the morphing between 2 modes work together so seeing how the charge blade is right now is a little disheartening. I weathered through it with iceborne but doing it again in wilds might make me fell out of love for this weapon and i would hate that
I'm not a charge blade player specifically but I do use dual blades and I think if they drop another beta they should have some elemental weapons for each weapon to play around with so we can see the vision of what they're trying to do. I'm assuming some undercooked weapons might not be truly undercooked and are planned to have element play a big roll kinda like with dual blades but no ones gonna be able to see that when there are no elemental weapons in the beta so people are gonna feel they're weaker than they actually are plus we could give feedback on the elemental damage too so we don't accidentally end up with super over or undertuned elemental damage
They nerfed SA by making its new playstyle into less fun CB, and now are pigeonholing CB into the playstyle which is less fun SA lol, I don't think they really know what people like about these weapons
I think my major problem with Savage Axe in wilds is just how it has no remnants of what charge blade used to be. Guard points are a thing of the past between perfect guards and being primarily in axe mode (yknow, the counter system that defined CB and made it the weapon it is), Phial Management is no longer a thing due to power axe and half phials. SAED is dead in the water just as a move and as a playstyle, and you're playing savage axe as funcitonally a switch axe with none of what makes CB unique.
Sometimes I think its a curse once you've learned the weapon inside out. You'll feel like its not enough and there's always room for improvement. When I first picked up CB, I knew nothing but everything was amazing.
It's frustrating that they'd neuter SAED so much on damage when they already took away the ability to spam it well. I've never liked SAED spam but landing one when you get it should not be a complete waste of time and resources. I just want to be able to at least hit a GP and then get good counter damage off of it. Atm it feels like I'm completely wasting my phials when I use an SAED even when I have a perfect opening for it and plenty of time to land it and still be safe. Overcharging phials is also a super cool addition but doesn't land because even when you overcharge it *still* doesn't do enough damage to be worth burning them all on an SAED. I didn't know that perfect guards had more resistance than guard points either, that's fucking dumb. I'll be honest though, I've never liked savage axe and it was always frustrating to me how it feels almost like a tumor on a weapon that is otherwise perfect for me because ever since Iceborne I feel like it's been sapping focus from the playstyle that I enjoy most on CB. Wilds is close to being able to bring it all together but the damage and the combo changes combined ruins it for me atm...
Personally, I have always hates SAED spam. I used it once at the end of World and thought it was the most BORING way to play any weapon. When Iceborne gave us Savage Axe I thought it was the most beautiful thing ever, but knowing that simple SAED spam could run laps around me soured the whole thing. I tried enjoying CB in Rise and Sunbreak, but the Lance and Hammer called to me too much. I like what they thought of doing in Wilds. Locking direct SAED behind a guardpoint gives us a playstyle that's mostly sword and board with a big payoff at the right time and a playstyle that's mostly axe-bound in savage axe, since it doesn't consume phials while attacking. It helps distinguishing it in playstyle from the other transforming weapon, the Switch Axe, which constantly swaps between forms for optimal DPS. But however much I hate it, SAED does need to be a viable playstyle for the weapon to be healthy, and slow as sin + really low damage ain't viable.
They had to remove neutral saed because you can overcharge phials. The beta build doesn't have artillery nor attack boost as yet. I would argue there's a heavier emphasis on guard pointing. You can now charge guard (hold down charge button for phials) and saed as a follow up option if you guard point.
why is overcharging phials something that should prevent neutral saed? you still spent the effort to build those resources, you should be able to spend them there is not a heavier emphasis on guard pointing - perfect guards are functionally superior sure there's no artillery yet but as i mentioned in my video, crit+sharpness will scale savage axe more than artillery scales saed. attack boost helps both, so the power gap won't close without motion value changes.
there are 2 things i would like them to change: 1) more ways to proc savage axe without needing wounds, maybe have it consume all ur phials like the shield charge 2) make SAED the default attack like in world
I think overcharging the phial should change SAED explosion type maybe bigger? So no more whiffs between legs or give us a new SAED that needs overcharge.
I hate savage axe so much it's unreal. Made me quit my favorite weapon in Iceborne endgame after hundreds of hours playtime. Charge blade to me is about having strong defense in sword and shield mode, guarding and waiting for your opportunities to use the axe for big damage. Savage axe does away with all of that. Guard points are pointless, morphing is unnecessary. It's just a slow and clunky switch axe. Feels and plays like trash.
At the very least cb is quite strong in terms of dps so its still fun to play. Ill never be able to abandon CB no matter how they change it, but it would be nice for both sides to be balanced/serve different roles so you had a choice. As someone who loved saed spam in base world/sunbreak, Ill definitely be forcing it one way or another, but ill still be enjoying savage axe.
WOAH i didnt know you could actually savage axe, i only knew about the 'power axe' mode... all the yters never mentioned an actual sav axe. kinda sad that i didnt get to use it
Remember first time playing monster hunter (lets say world) you are scrooling thru all weapons to see the one that had that WOW! factor. I'm pretty sure people that had affinity with CB was because they saw how cool SAED was, sure CB is a complex wepaon with various playstyles, but SAED to me was always the ultimate move of this weapon, should be rewarding, epic and and heavy move. Maybe skills will decide which playtyle to focus, and i always liked the option of ("Shit my SAED will fail let me do an AED instead to mitigate the loss").
I didn't even know savage axe was in wilds. I thought it was just a buff. Personally I like mhgu charge blade because I don't feel force into swapping scrolls every time I want to go in axe mode and I also like using the rest of the axe move set
My only gripe is the SnS on CB feels pointless. Atleast rise added a little razzle dazzle to SnS mode by adding little phial bombs with every shield thrust that would detonate with an AED or SAED.
That's EXACTLY my opinion. As much as I have liked the pizza cutter in Rise, I found it boring after a while even though it eradicates monsters. I largely prefer the SAED playstyle, so like you I was a bit disappointed that the path to a satisfying full-charge SAED became even harder. During the beta I ended up mostly using AEDs because of muscle memory, but didn't find many opportunities to follow it up. I guess I'll only use SAEDs after perfect guard points. It really feels like Capcom wants us to use the pizza cutter as a primary playstyle, the wound attack finisher deliberately puts you in axe mode, if you have a few phials charged, you might as well use it. And YES, bring back AXE HOPPER. The best companion to any SAED player!
i'm really surprised that i didnt enjoy CB in the beta. to me it just felt too clunky. not the biggest fan of having to hold the button while the axe goes through and being in axe means less access to guard points which is my favourite part of CB. my most played were bow (which i played through IB with) and weirdly the new insect glaive. hopefully the commitment of completing SAED is made both the risk and time because it really didnt feel worth, and even if we had focus i dont think my opinion would change because the issue is getting the SAED out in the first place. I do wonder if it could have a place with some damage tweaks and when paired with the overcharged phials. if we get less often but way more damage SAEDs that way i think it could be interesting
YES, identity crisis is what i would also call current game direction, I would love for the Devs to know WHAT they want the weapons to be. They have only 2 weapons that, to me, feel feature complete, LS and Bow. but CB has been my favorite since I started playing the game back on Base World but it never felt Right, I would always feel like something was missing. Edit: LBG and HBG seem also quite right but didn't played them much.
started in iceborne, only SAED'd every boss even my first fatalis kill just sometimes used the EDs if i had the axe charged from a (failed) guard point or smth or because my brain went "ooooh pizza cutter go in circles" so I'll be really disappointed if SAED is borderline not viable compared to savage axe in wilds
SAED CB feels like it takes forever to kill monsters with; im more of a casual player and i dont ever feel like i can get a SAED off if i can only do it from a guardpoint; and when i do finally get one it doesnt hit for dick for damage and i need to bomb myself to wake up a monster.. it just feels terrible CB used to give the biggest most satisfying booms even in iceborne i knew savage was better but i didnt feel like SAED was impossible to use like i did in wilds
may as well call it charge axe at this point since they dont want anyone to saed. considering it takes such a long string to even get one out for subpar mv.
Yes, I think they are actively targeting the strongest attacks from the previous game to make players use other options. Honestly, after the Dragon Conversion thing in Sunbreak, I'm not surprised they did this.
I will be honest; I don't like Savage Axe/Power Axe mode. From World to Iceborne, Capcom nerfed the motion values of axe attacks, thus using Savage Axe would more or less bring us back to where we used to be: it was an additional maintenance to deal with rather than a neat bonus. I would have preferred Power Axe to only improve the phial consumption (no phial consumption on normal discharge, half a phial on AED) and not directly improve motion values / making additional hits, so if we have trouble activating it, we are not punished directly on our damage. This leads to the second problem: we cannot activate Power Axe mode by ourselves (wtaf Capcom?), we need to do a focus strike, a mount, a power clash or a perfect guard. If we have trouble to get those reliably, then we are dealing less damage than we should until we do. For focus strike, wounds eventually scar (after some time, after enough damage, after a focus strike) and cannot be reopened again, meaning there is a point after which we cannot focus strike activate Power Axe mode. Also, if we focus on the weak spots only, they get scarred fast, and we will need to go attacking non-weak spots just for the sake of wounding then to focus strike activate Power Axe mode. Mount resistance builds up, so this is not a reliable solution to activate Power Axe mode in the long run, and the finisher needs to be performed on an open wound: if no wound or the wound is scarred: no Power Axe mode. Power clash is likely situational and depend entirely on the monsters. If we are unlucky on the AI behavior, this is also not a reliable method to activate Power Axe mode. Perfect guard doesn't include guard points. Guard points are better than normal guard due to better guard capability, triggering a free phial explosion and happening during our offensive animations. This will change the flow of combat for CB as we know it. Also, it will depend on the timing requirement for a guard to be considered as "perfect". If it is like in Iceborne with offensive guard, it is alright. If it is like in Sekiro (from what I heard, I never played the game), then it will be difficult. SAED is pretty much dead. Which monster will have the politeness to stay still and not attack us while we do an AED, then an SAED? Just play CB in Iceborne and imagine having to do an AED before an SAED. They may as well remove the attack entirely and not take it into consideration for the balancing of the overall dps of CB. By the way, AED does only one phial damage instead of 3 and the follow up might be hard, if not impossible to pull off against speedy endgame monsters. Not a huge fan of the new overcharged phials as I assume Capcom will take them into consideration when balancing the overall DPS of CB, meaning they will not be some kind of neat bonus, but something we need to have to deal the "expected damage", much like the wyrmstake blast of gunlance: another maintenance to keep track off on a weapon which had already so much to keep track off and didn't need some more. Basically, I assume overcharged phials will be more or less as powerful as phials in World, while normal phials in Wilds will be weaker than in World. Now, we will have to charge our phials 4 times before going to town (2 to load overcharged phials into the shield, 2 to have overcharged phials for damage) instead of 2 times like before, making the "power up phase" of CB 2 times longer than before. The overall dps of the weapon will suffer from this, and it will be easy to check this out after some times when dps ranking will be made. Just why? Does anyone in the developer team play charge blade? The controls are overall much worse than in World in my opinion (I couldn't get an AED/SAED after a guard point by entering the same inputs, instead, doing a phial loading/charge sword). I really hope I am proven wrong when the game comes out, but at the moment, I am very worried about what CB will be. I fear we may have its worst iteration ever in Wilds. Also, RIP Insect Glaive. A cold shower which pretty much extinguished most of my hype for MHWilds. Well, at least I have FF7 Rebirth.
also, in Wild SAED very inconvinient to use. For some strange reason you can't preform SAED anymore where you want you need to do ED first and it takes a lot of time.
I don't like how a lot of weapon got changed, like my main (Gunlance) got an insane amount of improvements and then most other weapons no longer have certain moves or no longer can do some things, i found lance for example to be kinda underwhelming
I don't know wha'ts going on at capcom but they decided to kill GS identity as well. This beta really killed any excitment I had for the game, unexpectedly so.
Thank you for this. I was a SAED spammer on IB and Sunbreak, so during the Wilds beta I constantly felt something was off. But you know what? I welcome it. The biggest appeal for me about CB is the freedom of options you can have, and a design that encourages you to experiment more feels great. Yes savage axe might be more efficient now, but we got so many new moves IN axe mode, like side step axe slash, back step slash, AED NO LONGER SHEATHES?? Come on. We are honestly being spoiled. It might be hard for me to adapt, but I think this will make me improve as a CB player AND as a hunter overall. Love your content as always man!!
@ratkingkingofrats1525 Ahkay. Amma join the copium andys. I still feel like you can play around perfect guard > SAED because focus mode allows you to turn any degrees to SAED after a block (even basic blocks, not only guard points and perfects) very much like you could in Risebreak. Problem is this didn't feel too great on the beta because phial generation fkn SUCKS without the Focus skill and the slow charged slash animations (Risebreak was just too good imo) and on the other hand almost every new tool you have defaults you into Savage Axe. Juzzi did point out that the damage is not great, but I do feel like for SAED to work you can't really play naked, you need a lot of different skills, Savaxe felt a lot better because it has everything it needs to work from the get go. So idk, I agree that the numbers might need some tweaks, but skills can really change gameplay a lot, and I'd still play SAED even if it's not optimal as long as it feels good to use
@@leizhun I am of the opinion that one is not incompatible with the other. For me what makes SAED less effective is that you can't throw it in a neutral way, but you have to go through a combo to do it, using a vial. I would like to be able to throw the monster to the ground and be able to choose if I want to hit it with savage mode doing stable damage or SAED it doing explosive damage and have time to charge vials. It can even be very cool to see that it's not worth throwing the SAED and let the normal hit to continue the combo in savage. It would allow for small decisions to be made during the game, making it more dynamic. I think having the classic option of being able to throw a saed in neutro, plus everything else they've added to it, will make it the dynamic weapon it should be and be able to play hybrid between two styles in a fluid way.
I think to buff the saed play style they could up the damage on the sword hits and add a way the power the sword from perfect guards. That way the damage up time is better for saed play style. Aslo buff the saed damage slightly because it is hard to get to.
@juzzi your right I just wanted pure saed to still the on the table but then it would just make more even sense to run savage axe because crit plus good sword mvs.
I like the rebalance because you have more reasons to use a wider variety of your moveset rather than basically playing like a SAED main. Savage Axe is your slow, high risk, high reward option for dealing big damage for extended engagements. AED is for slapping the monster with a big hit relatively quickly, for weaving into combos of other moves, more useful in parts of the fight where your footwork matters more. SAED is your slow as hell big as fuck single damage hit. Amazing for combo finishers and wake-up hits. There's far less reason to say "just keep using X combo". That's a good thing.
I had never played CB until the beta. I enjoyed savage axe and imagined chainsaw noises every time I used it. But I am disappointed to hear that the guard points are useless and other play styles are invalidated. Seems like a lot of weapons have been done dirty in the beta. I also tried lance, and the perfect guard counters felt underwhelming, but I think that is partly due to the absence of the sound effects we had in Rise/Sunbreak.
kinda have a mix feeling about this if they really encourage axe play style why they complicated to access it perfect guard, focus trike etc while world just press one button before SAED move or rise just hold to charge it, when the SAED style just spam two button twice and giving AED a follow up if you don't want to commit to SAED, they want this game to be newcomer friendly but you kinda complicated some step here hope they reconfigure how to access the savage axe mode for the full release

i really do like how sunbreak is almost even between the 2 styles. gives you a choice on which monster is suited for one or the other. i dont exactly want to just stick to savage axe all the time. i mean if going to SAED takes longer and is more riskier why not make it hit really hard.. like High Risk High Reward type of deal.
it was even in sunbreak until super element meta made saed way stronger
css is still playable/viable though
Only thing that makes me sad is how you can only activate Savage Axe after a perfect guard or focus strike. I want to manually activate it like in World.
You can actually bring small barrel bombs and perfect guard the explosion like ppl did in subreak for the counter morph slash buff, pretty annoying though.
it's preaty simple, don't make make CB more easier
Skill issue
It's more cumbersome to get savage axe now but it also lasts longer.

The worst thing Capcom did take its default SAED of Charge Blade
@@alexandercortescampano4335 and savage axe activation through saed-cancel.
Did they fuck up the swaxe too?
@ratkingkingofrats1525 yes, they made every swaxe attack weak and made the full release slash the strongest attack. Even then, it's still the weakest overall. It was so bad to the point where Speedrunners start to drop as many rocks as they can just to get lower times 💀
I'm a CB/SA/LN main but the beta had me enjoying, and actually wanting to play a GL/LBG combo
Same except for the swaxe part (i dont really main swaxe), ig tho, they took the sky from us 😭
It's funny you call it budget switch ax because the switch ax is one of the weakest weapons right now in the current state of the game in wilds.

LS players loves helmbreaker so much and hate losing red gauge when misses the helmbreaker, the dev: (give it Spirit Release Slash after performing a Helm Breaker, and able to cancel the Helm Breaker if missed)
CB loves SAED, the dev: (make the SAED cumbersome to use and make it weak.)
IG loves Aerial playstyle, the dev: (remove aerial playstyle)
Lance loves counter thrust, insta-block, shield charge and most important it's fluid playstyle, the dev: (remove them completely in game and make it slow and clunky mess to use)
LS is not beating the favorite child allegations atp.
@@YipeekayHarashoLS also gets a built in rocksteady for the stab attack that follows up in helmbreaker lmfao. You cannot make this shit up

This I said the same thing. When 70 to 80% of the player base is playing ls that should tell you something they need to rework the bottom 5 weapons bad
I don’t understand what was wrong with being able to choose between a neutral aed, and saed. Kinda removed some of the depth that cb had.
NO cool SNS positioning with side hop cancels etc.
spitting facts my guy
I've been playing 4U with the CB and it's simple but fun, or is to me at least.
Double Swing ED -> Upswing loop was something I loved doing in 4U before they cratered the MVs going into Gen
Sucks to suck I guess
I mean, it's called "Charge Blade", not "circular saw on a stick"
I am kinda done with CB so my original plan is to main switch axe in Wilds, but Capcom just made it into a Walmart version of SAED charge blade LMAO, I honestly dunno what to do now.
we send angry emails to capcom in hope of change
Savage stomps on SAED.
they can use the seikret as the jumping platform for the axe hopper.
What???? Thats badass.
Great minds think alike! I hope this gets introduced in Wilds' DLC Master Rank Expansion, and not just for CB but for all weapons too! Great way to bring back Aerial Style from Gen/GenU.
also want have mixing playstyle with this weapon. If I have small window - doing pizza cutter, if I have big - doing mega boom
exactly, people love to create problems.
sad as a guardpoint>aed/saed lover
I'm sorry but this is completely trash. It went from CB to switchaxe 2.0. Reminds me of the switchaxe, axe spam. I know not everyone liked saed spam but it should be optional. Seen this coming when world released and they made the chainsaw bit. And they wonder why 80% of the player base plays LS. Everything gets gutted anytime it competes with it. They need to look at the data and the 5 least used weapons need major work.
i want to go back to 4u. simpler times when gp was important and both sword combos and axe combos were important... now i'm forced to play budget switchaxe
*Switch Axe that's (at least in the demo) better than the actual Switch Axe
Though I admit that I love chainsaw, and I guess that's why I still enjoy Wilds CB :p
And then you fight Tidal Najarala like I did in G rank a few days ago and turn it off again.
I went back to 3U instead, I love the simpler times in Mon Hun, where you took damage where you got it and from whatever attacks you could and that was enough to get the job done.
I know its not optimal, but ed1-ed2-aed-ers-saed is raw as fuck imo
I'll miss axe hopper
SAED hits like a wet noodle and they gave it sfx to match. 😥
Man, the best thing I did since replaying World, and now again with Wilds Beta was to turn off damage numbers. It blocks out the disappointment lol
I feel like world was the best balance for cb maybe tune down the damage savage axe mode but other than that is was perfect imo
Your detailed knowledge on the weapons you main is really appreciated~
That’s my only gripe rn
make: (1)guard points on par with perfect guards, (2)axe upswing an offset as a defensive tool
Play style right now:
1. Build phials + perfect block
2. Thrash away
3. Build phials + focus wound
4. Thrash away
5. Win
zZzZz
It might be skill issue, but I just don't enjoy savage axe as much because of the terribly clunky movement and lack of defensive options. And also, why the hell would capcom go out of their way to remove core features or alternate playstyles of weapons??? They had literally no reason to remove SAED from neutral.
As a former insect glaive main, i have no goddamn clue why theyre removing core features from some of these weapons

Its like they were thinking of the wrong weapon will creating their movesets for Wilds.

The early Sunbreak patch was a pretty sweet spot for both styles of CB but the Elemental SAED getting too strong in later updates really made Capcom screw SAED players huh.
While we're at it, Lance's backward Guard Dash and Leaping Thrust feel like they got nerfed in Wilds beta test as well lol
Like yeah, I can see Leaping Thrust getting damage nerf being reasonable but Guard Dash getting a delayed Guard before dashing backward isn't even a fair nerf.
Both of these moves were like ones of the very few saving graces for Lance in Sunbreak, yet Capcom nerfed it in Wilds anyway.
It's a pretty damn stupid balance.
i think i'm dropping lance in wilds it looks so much less fun than in sunbreak
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!
I was planning to do my own rant about Wilds CB, but you saved me the time
I hate this CB playstyle so much, all I did was spamming mouse 2 and I was getting 6-7 min runs on Rey Dau (capturing).
Hopefully they can adjust mvs, really hoping for another more updated demo to come to alleviate all the concerns

@@nword9239 true. Maybe its because of the traditional japanese origin from the whole katana thing and because its the most used weapon overall.

Funnily enough, Swaxe has become shitty SAED charge blade, and charge blade has become a shitty sword only Swaxe. Wilds is a fucking trip
Sometimes I think its a curse once you've learned the weapon inside out. You'll feel like its not enough and there's always room for improvement. When I first picked up CB, I knew nothing but everything was amazing.
I think what they tried to do here was to make the weapon more like the switch axe when it comes to its gameplay loop.
this kinda stinks to see it nerfed so bad.

Man, what are yall on about? It just needs overall damage buffs on SAED. I still got my guard point SAED while you guys are miserable 😂
I'll stick to the oonga boonga style.
We insect glaive players know your pain. No helicopter style hurts.
Pretty much, since they want you to utilize Pizza Cutter mode more rather than SAED
SAED is really fun, but I kind of also love the Savage axe. I'm debating maining this or Switch axe for Wilds.
Both should be even, but man saed on wilds hurt me..I love to oonga boonga once in awhile and certain monsters
They had to remove neutral saed because you can overcharge phials. The beta build doesn't have artillery nor attack boost as yet. I would argue there's a heavier emphasis on guard pointing. You can now charge guard (hold down charge button for phials) and saed as a follow up option if you guard point.
why is overcharging phials something that should prevent neutral saed? you still spent the effort to build those resources, you should be able to spend them
there is not a heavier emphasis on guard pointing - perfect guards are functionally superior
sure there's no artillery yet but as i mentioned in my video, crit+sharpness will scale savage axe more than artillery scales saed. attack boost helps both, so the power gap won't close without motion value changes.
They really have to stop messing with this weapon.
there are 2 things i would like them to change:
1) more ways to proc savage axe without needing wounds, maybe have it consume all ur phials like the shield charge
2) make SAED the default attack like in world
I strongly agree with you
I think overcharging the phial should change SAED explosion type maybe bigger? So no more whiffs between legs or give us a new SAED that needs overcharge.
@@skyz42 it makes it very slightly bigger, only like 20% in beta
@@juzzi I honestly did not know thank you! But I would like to add 30% more to that XD.
It would be great if we can also compare over charged phial motion value on wild as well.
@@pittawatpamornchasirikij overcharge is like 23>28 on saed phials. not big.
for me, im considering going back to charge blade in wilds, it's like a mix of GU charge blade and iceborne charge blade
Hi Juzzi maybe we can unlock more movesets through story in the future like mh rise?
solution: bring back axe hopper with increased MVs compared to regular SAED
option from neutral and fixes the imbalance.
TBH I love the change, especially with the new follow-up move. Cool move = Me happy
While I'm still really excited for Wilds and hopeful thatthey will rebalance the weapons, I can't help but miss Sunbreak already
may as well call it charge axe at this point since they dont want anyone to saed. considering it takes such a long string to even get one out for subpar mv.
Not sure if that was a joke and you already knew but charge axe is what its called in Japan funny enough.
@@CEDL0W honestly had no idea lmao thanks.
Tbf i want mh4u combos back which what savage axe does so I'm pretty happy
Yes, I think they are actively targeting the strongest attacks from the previous game to make players use other options. Honestly, after the Dragon Conversion thing in Sunbreak, I'm not surprised they did this.
Born to SAED, Born to Savage Axe. Whats there to complain about?
AED is gonna mostly be used if you don’t have time to pull off SAED without getting sent flying. Remember: Time away from the monster is damage loss.
from the moment they showed the cb new moves, I know I couldn't play saed spam anymore
The worst part Capcom did
I don't like how a lot of weapon got changed, like my main (Gunlance) got an insane amount of improvements and then most other weapons no longer have certain moves or no longer can do some things, i found lance for example to be kinda underwhelming
I don't know wha'ts going on at capcom but they decided to kill GS identity as well. This beta really killed any excitment I had for the game, unexpectedly so.
loved that u named ur cat Marianne 🤣Golden deer ftw
"Freedom of options" but they basically removed an entire playstyle lmao
Freedom to play how you want, but makes it more convoluted for SAED spam enjoyers 😂
@@JabTonB if they execute this wrong you can play sword or axe but saed is still dps loss LOL
That's a good thing.
unfortunately how it has played out in the demo is that you really do just keep using x combo, the combo being ed1>ed2
savage axe is cool but I love my big booms
and YES we do need axe hopper back that shit was awesome
Man I guess they hate axes huh? 😬
no they love axe modes, forcing you to use them
I had never played CB until the beta.
