I'm glad that we got a HD remaster of the 3 hour TV cuts of "SUPERMAN" & "KONG '76". Now, if only we can get the TV Cuts of "THE NAKED GUN Trilogy", "Clifford" (the 1994 Martin Short film), "JAWS 2" and "JAWS: The Revenge" remastered for all to see.
I remember seeing this on HBO like when I was 7... then years later I saw the 3 hour version on TV. But the thing is... I didn't know it was extended. Not until Superman goes thru all those traps of him being frozen, and heated and going thru machine guns.. I was like... I don't remember any of this stuff. Then when I tried to explain to my Mom that the TV version had all this extra stuff... She didn't believe me and insisted that I just didn't remember it. And that she of course remembered all those parts (which weren't even in the HBO version that she saw...) Of course, there was no On demand or anything like that... You watched this stuff live or not at all. So... She never believed me that there was an enhanced version of that movie (back in the early 80's or whenever that 3 hour version aired on regular tv.)
One thing I noticed that was added was how the water that Superman diverted in the end of the original cut went to a town with a dried up river and the water gave the river life again
This is the only version of the film I haven’t seen. In fact when I watched it for the first time it was the special edition of on my DVD and that was the version I became used to so when I first saw the theatrical version on TV for the first time I was a little bewildered as to why 2 scenes were missing. While I can understand for some the 3 hour 8 minute cut is probably too long, I think it’s just great that’s it’s out there now and on blu ray for anybody to see. WB really have gone to great lengths to preserve this film in all its different versions as well.
Is this also known as the International Salkind Edition? I only discovered today that this 3 hour TV version was released and remember reading about this a good few years back!! Good review btw 👌
a little less excited if the extended cut is just padding but I have loved it since I was a kid so I will probably end up getting it just to see the differences
It's not just padding, This guy is WRONG. There is an entire scene between Jor-El and Superman (Reeve) in the Fortress, an entire new scene at the end where Superman invades Lex's lair to take him and Otis to prison, etc. That's not padding.
@@thenostalgicpodblast no I mean in the video he was comparing the 3 hour cut to the special edition when he was talking about major differences because in the special edition you get the scenes of him walking through Luthor’s traps and talking to Jor El after his first day
@@thenostalgicpodblast but because I haven’t seen the 3 hour cut I don’t know if there any major scenes other than the ones he mentioned in the video that aren’t in the special edition
i like the tv cut i mean i like them all , but i saw the theatrical cut at the cinema when i was 8 , then seeing this on tv made me like it more , and having this widescreen version on blu ray is great, u also get the directors cut as well, win win
AS A FAN ITS PERFECT BUT AS A FIRST TIMER OR SOMEONE WHO HAS SEEN IT ONLY A COUPLE OF TIMES, ITS NOT WHAT YOU SHOULD WATCH FIRST BUT PLEASE WATCH THE DIRECTORS SPECIAL EDITION CUT AS ITS THE BEST VERSION OF THE MOVIE!!!!!!!

Since, 1982.

I love ALL 3 VERSIONS OF THIS MASTERPIECE! 3 HOUR CUT IS WHAT I WATCHED THE MOST OF ALL 3 CUTS ON TV!!!!!!!
Me too.

I liked the extended dialogue when Supes saves the girl's cat.
...and then gets beat by her mom.

Bad people make movies
Me too
Anyone humming the Superman Theme while watching this?
Still the best Superman movie ever made. Henry Cavill is a really good Superman, he just needs better scripts.
I love this version, I saw the original at cinema, i used to have this on Vhs, when it came on blu Ray, I was well chuffed, and I brought it,
Me too. But, I first saw the special edition on 📀 from Superman the movie as a kid.
Still not a DC fan but was into the original movie as a kid and TV cut might be interesting to see

Absolutely 💯 YES!!!
CHRISTOPHER REEVE is SUPERMAN
Why didn’t Donner include the scene where Superman saves Miss Tessmacher at the end in his special edition?
The only one Superman Christopher Reeve for ever and the best superheroe movie the All times
you can get the original Star Wars Trilogy in all it's glory at a comic con
I'm happy that I still have the original trilogy on VHS.
You mean without special edition, right?

I liked the 3 hour tv 📺 cut from Superman the movie.
The first two christopher reeve movies remain the best.
Correct but the donner cut
Donner cut of Superman 2
I agree, this is the definitive Superman film.

Many people don't realize this, but this movie is actually an "Opera".
How so? I dont know anything about Opera.....
@@integrity101 ....the main definition of an Opera, is when music is 90% of the driving force behind the story and scenes.
The theatrical cut of superman the movie is 2hr and 8mins
Theatrical is 2 hours 23 minutes
