- It's been a while and I still don't have my Omnibook back yet, but I have an IBM AS/400 and I got it working.
Protips:
To get AS/400 install keys, visit this site and login to your IBM account, then provide a serial: www.ibm.com/se...
QSECOFR is the "root" account, the password is forced to be changed at the first login.
You will go crazy reading the documentation for this.
To install the OS, insert the CD and IPL D. To format the disks the utility is located in the diagnostic tools.

It's nice to have alternative media platforms to the current mainstream platforms(especially if said platforms are promoting insane ideas and self-creating echo chambers), also have a great day.
@@fadate7292 just join a big instance then. poa.st is fucking trash though.
What I love about this IBM terminal is the beeping it makes when you type. Oh I could do it for hours and hours.
My dad used to sell hospital equipment and I recall him clearly telnetting into such systems to search inventories and input sales data and place orders.
WRKACTJOB, SBMJOB, DSPJOB, PWRDWNSYS, CRTPF, CRTLF. Oh those were the days.
This computer is awesome. Doesn't this system have the most obscure and overbuilt OS known to man?
Obscure no. Overbuilt yes.
Its just the perfect opearting system, because the os is running on a virtual machine, which can support to have the under layer (hardware) been changed many times, from 16 bits word to 32 then 64, without having to rewrite the operating system (what is called LIC). Java failed at that big time by obliging to rewrite java code when changing the major version many times. OS400 replaced that by storing the intermediate and source code into the object and just recompile for current hardware during restore operation. not any single operating system is able to do that. Let me know your questions about it, i know it full well, having started on S/38 and then all version of OS400 until 7R4, and coming from big iron MVS before. Second thing is the POSIX sub system that lets you run linux/unix code, but still using all the leverage of memory and storage management from the hosting OS. Third thing is the lack of limit or so far off in term of file storage or memory size etc. When it started on S38 with a 48 bits addressing, when other was still limited to 32, and evolved to 64 then 128 , so imagine where is the limit, its TB of internal memory that is supported and i don't remember the disk storage limit, that is tremendous as well.
Cool, thanks :) Glad you're back
That machine has a gorgeous case
Ayyy, he's back! I actually have a chonky IBM AS/400 model 720 (with V5R3 I think). I played around with it for a little while, but sadly I don't have the licenses for it, so it's basically useless. I wish that they had a hobbyist program like with VMS. Hell, I'd pay at least a couple hundred bucks for a basic a developers package so I can mess around with RPG and COBOL. Can't wait to see your video on it.
Make a new account, sign in, and go to this site for the licenses:

I remember doing temp work for a company when I was at college. And I had to do data backups on these using the IBM tape carts. I think each tape was something like 500GB each.
This takes me back to my AS/400 and OS/400 days. Having a 3477 on my desk would look so out of place now. Besides, I don't think an IKEA desk could even support the weight of any IBM terminal from the 80's onwards. They were so heavy.
Hey mate great to see you back on youtube, also have a great day.
Why were so many control panel interactions needed for the boot?
If it's not a panel, then it's a switch and a lock with physical key.
It's for selecting IPL, you can roughly think it as selecting dual BIOS A/B and whether entering boot menu on PC.
Is all that background noise an attract mode for a game machine or some movie playing or what?
at first I thought it was some boot music, like the SGI Indy had, but then it just kept going 😆
Would have been wonderful if you SAID ANYTHING as the process was running. But we're left to wonder what was going on.
Great video, As400 i love this mainframe
Do you know if the monitor displays different shades of green or just one colour?
welcome back
I have a 150 that has a questionable PSU, two bad 4.19gb DASD, & bad CD & tape drives!
Can IPL it to a "barebones state, but that's it! DAMN!! 😞
I didn't even know this os EXISTED until recently
I used one along time ago when i was working at Wal-Mart their SMART system Server has on one of these machines which ran their back office program s
I picked one up and got it going but I ran into the password and don't know my options to proceed. Do you have any recommendations as far as reinstalling a os, or work around I would really like to toy around with it but I'm still getting familiar with it.
Manual IPL and you can set the QSECOFR password during boot.
Reminds me with maxial 2000 program for hotel management system. 😅
Hey buddy
Nice to see u back in RUclips. Can you plz share your email I have some doubts for AS400 power 7 machine
