As a german for me it seems they have waaaay more in common with Europe than the US. But in the end its not surprising since the US seems to love beeing different and keep their weird ancient stuff like the "imperial system", religion like in the middle ages, peeping Tom friendly toilets and whatever else 😄

I learn what I need from Tik Tok, Instagram and Facebook...... smdh....
Actually Adelaide in South Australia had a large 1800's Gernan migrant population. So did the other states. Adelaide even has a bus way called the O-bahn, based on some German ones. The coolest town nearby is called Handorf. Google it 😀

Student engagement with education, though, is problematic for many, because the TikTok attention span isn’t conducive to understanding complex concepts, nor close to time enough to draw relationships between concepts, problem solve, etc.

You can get ketchup in the supermarket. Most people don’t use it though, because it’s way too sugary compared to regular tomato sauce.

Chicken salt is the best. It is not chicken flavoured salt, it was a seasoning designed to go onto chicken. We however mostly use it on chips/fries.
Also, chicken salt is mostly vegetarian friendly

"The sin tax." I've never heard that before, but lived in Australia my whole life. I worked in the Dept if Health when they developed this tax. They did it for noble means and yes, it does go towards supplementing the health system. I'll never forget seeing a newly arrived American guy buying a pack of smokes at Coles. When the attendant asked for the money his brain almost blew out the top of his head. He couldn't believe it. His Marlboros cost $40. Welcome to Australia. Oh well, it means there's good money to be made on the black market.

I think the best way to understand our speeding & drink driving laws is to look at the stats for road fatalities per capita (100,000)
U.S. - 12.7
AUS - 4.9
These figures include ALL road deaths not just the above mentioned.
Many countries have .05 limit (approx. 89) & less (approx. 27) Many have 0.8 (approx. 70) There are quite a few with 0 as well (approx. 28).
Quick comment on the drinks and the stuff at the bottom. It’s because we don’t use added chemicals to suspend the flavouring in the drink. The stuff that you guys use is band in about 150 count
Only some places charge for extra sauce, and $1.50 is way higher than normal. I don’t have sauce, so I’m quite happy to have user pays for sauce and keep the cost of the meal down. Ketchup is much sweeter than tomato sauce. It's made with HFCS, which is banned in Australia because of its negative health impact.
Swearing depends very much where you are. It’s not common at all with my circle of family, colleagues and friends.
'Letter' paper size as used in the US is an old system of sizing, just used in the Americas. As with most metric countries, we have A4 as standard, in line with the internationally used system of sizing grades, A3, A5 etc.
They really don’t give speeding tickets for 2km over, you’d beat that easily in court, and most speed cameras have warning signs as you approach them. Why speed limits? We care about lives.

No, moonshining isn’t a thing. Mostly we have a designated driver who doesn’t drink. Some people rotate that. It’s why we have standardised drinks, slightly less than yours, so it’s easier to monitor your intake for the BAC.
plus tipping is not a thing in Australia.
We used to have a big problem with Drink Driving, and our local Race Driving Hero, Peter Brock, tirelessly campaigned to have the limit lowered to .05. He even had 05 has his Car number. They eventually lowered the limit from .08 to .05. Then they brought in Breathalyzers and Random Breath Testing. The Alcohol related Accidents definitely went down, it’s much better now. I would say most people are ok to go through the inconvenience for the greater good of the Community.

In the States, the ticket price is not the actual price - if something says it's $5, it's actually more than $5, with after sales tax.

Lachlan is a common first name in Australia. It is Scottish origin and was the name of one of the early Governors of the penal colony that became Australia, Governor Lachlan Macquarie. The names Lachlan and Macquarie appear everywhere as place names and business names as well. Interesting fact.... Lachlan Macquarie was sent to take over the Governorship from Bligh. Yes, the same Bligh of "Mutiny on the Bounty" fame who was appointed Governor of NSW after he returned to Britain after the Bounty episode. Bligh was replaced because he was the subject of a second mutiny in Sydney by the British army regiment that effectively ran the penal colony like an organised crime gang.
One US teacher who came here for a year and did similar videos on the differences said when she went back to the US, a few months later she got a letter containing something like 3 speeding tickets from the state of Victoria. So even going back home won't get you out of those! 😂

If you actually read the ingredients, "ketchup" and "tomato sauce" are virtually identical. I've had a lot of both here and in the USA and I feel that our tomato sauce is generally less sweet than ketchup in the US, but that goes for many things.Yeah they often charge for sauce but some places don't. Fosters IS an Australian beer which was popular in some parts of Melbourne in the 1980s but hasn't been popular for a long time. Random breath testing is a fact of life here and massively reduced the drunk driving death and injury toll when introduced a long time ago. The cops are polite, and it takes almost no time out of your day. Just don't drink and drive.

HFCS is a sucrose substitute developed in America to use excess corn crops, and to reduce prices of goods such as ketchup, soft drinks. It is a combination of the sugars fructose and glucose. Fructose has a much higher sweetness index than the sucrose used in Australia in both ketchup and tomato sauce. HFCS is banned in Australia because of its effects on obesity, and links to cancer and NAFLD.
cricket would be the most popular sport in australia as it is played in all states and australia is known internationally as one of the great cricket countries while the others sports are more regional including the AFL which is domestic

The 4 houses are Sports houses. Each house is usually named after an explorer of Australia. Eg; Cunningham, Barton, Oxley and each house is a different colour. With regards to the speeding, we have a saying here "SPEED KILLS". For every klm over the speed limit it takes an extra 3 metres of braking. We also have average speed cameras, this is usually 2 cameras, 5klm apart. Camera 1 takes your photo as you pass, camera 2 then takes your photo as you pass. If you have got from camera 1 to camera 2 faster than the average speed allows, you will be sent a ticket
Houses are like teams. So for sports days you wear the colour of your house.
Our houses were named after historical houses in the town.
Depending upon how freaking huarge your school was, you could have 11 houses... starting with the obvious colours: Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Orange, Purple, Black, White, Grey (that's 9), Pink and Teal (Cyan/Aqua).
If you go to an all girls school the houses will be named after famous women, we had Bates, Fry , Gilmore and Turner.
At my primary school they were Cook, Phillip, Banks and Solander (we were on the shores of Botany Bay). And at high school we were Indigenous names (Warramunda, Koorawatha, Pintharuka and Yarrawonga). The colours are always red, blue, green or yellow.
Over here we don't go to jail. The only time you get put in jail is something serious. It's not like the US system at all. You get in trouble here it's either let off with a warning or cop a fine generally.

Dotted middle line you can overtake Solid line you cannot. No speed cameras on all highways or roads. But often marked and such. But police can set up a speed trap anywhere in the country. Same as random breath testing can be anywhere

Alcohol laws are very strict here and to even work in a place that serves Alcohol you have to complete a Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate (also the same case for gambling which is called Responsible Conduct of gambling). There is a recertification component and you are held personally liable if a patron was given too much alcohol and leaves the premises and injures themselves. This links back to our strict BAC rules as we have had high fatality on the roads in the past as a result of Alcohol mixed with speeding so when you start to see too many teenagers losing their lives the government does something about it.
The white egg you have in america is due to a bleaching process to remove any bacteria which removes the 'brown protective layer'. In Australia and the UK we have higher standards on the living standards of the chickens and therefore our eggs are sold in their natural form

Australia won the cricket world up against India in India a couple of months ago. It was our 6th world cup, the country anywhere near us in world cup wins is the West Indies with 2 world cup wins so we're pretty good at cricket.

In general Australia doesn't have just bars...we have pubs like the UK, but those pubs are called hotels in Australia because as Australia was growing the hotel/pub always had accommodation upstairs (most pub/hotels in Australia are multi storey and the buildings are old). These days there are motels that just have rooms like US cheap roadside ones.
Australian hotels/pubs have front bars and sports bars for betting, they all used to have ladies lounges (where women can drink and children can attend) because women were banned from front bars prior to sometime in the 70's...later on most added on a bistro or restaurant, outdoor beer gardens and depending on state a gaming room full of pokies (5 reel slot machines)
Actual hotels in cities and resorts are called hotels too...
There are small bars in Australia but it's only been in the 20 yrs.

When I say bars I'm talking qbout US style dive bars...they exist but are relatively rare in Australia.
The modern little bars hidden in side lanes are not really a pub bar style place...they are more specialised and usually sell posh food...or at least expensive food.

Pool tables are small but snooker tables are very large. Hotel has rooms upstairs to sleep usually but they may be remnants of those places.

29:41 I could be really overprotected, but I’ve never seen illegal alcohol in Australia. The reason we’re tough on speeding and drink driving is that they massively increase the risk to others on the road, not wearing shoes etc, doesn’t effect anyone else so the attitude is “who cares”.
0.05 is based on the level of alcohol that can be scientifically shown to impair your reflexes, so no you aren’t drunk at all, but your reflexes are affected. You get to 0.05 in adult men with about one standard drink per hour (or 2 in first hour and one per hour after) which is the reason behind the strict rules on measuring alcohol in bars, so people can properly judge how much they have consumed and whether they should be driving. If a bar tender makes your drink stronger than you realize, they can be responsible when you drive over the legal limit.
There was a story, 10 years ago, where 3 kids died in Queensland (Stanthorpe) from getting into a guys homemade alcohol. The guy did jail time for the incident (it was considered accidental death), but he still got charged with the manslaughter of the 3 boys because he “didn’t store the home brew in such a way that they couldn’t access it.” The 3 boys were all adults. He was the father of one of the three boys. You can make your own beer and spirits, and people do, but there are laws around it. The supermarkets (in Qld at least) sell all the products you need to make homebrew beer in the supermarket, but if you get caught supplying the made product to someone else, that will incur a fine.

as a kid that grew up poor, I loved the fact we had uniforms. one less thing to worry about, everyone wore the same thing, so there was no bullying about wearing something 'uncool'
'4 way stops' I don't think we even have any 4 way stops. if there is an intersection without traffic lights or a roundabout, one of the 2 roads with have priority and the one crossing it will have to 'give way' to it at all times. if it is an intersection where 2 'main' roads meet, it will have traffic lights or a roundabout.
we also don't have 'traffic circles', or at least they are incredibly uncommon and not actually 'round' usually. we have roundabouts , there is a difference.

the shots thing is because of RSA (responsible service of alcohol), our drink driving laws are pretty strict and the limit is 0.05 so the bartender can get in a fair bit of trouble for 'over serving' if somebody knows they can have 2 drinks and still drive and you go and essentially give them 3+ drinks, they are now potentially over the limit.
fosters used to be more common here back in the 90's. My parents ran a pub for a while at that time and did sell a decent amount of fosters, but it was still outsold my most other beers, that being said, I don't think I have seen a fosters for like 15+ years. so either its no longer sold here or it is and I have just completely ignored it. I think it always sold better overseas then it did here anyway.
it is legal here to make your own alcohol, but the size of your brewing equipment is limited and your not allowed to sell it, but some people do.
with pizza, you usually get a choice, either they will ask you if you want bbq or regular or it will be named something like 'BBQ Meatlovers' or 'BBQ Chicken' on the menu, for me its always BBQ if its a meatlovers.
with the hotel thing, a lot of them actually are hotels as well or they were at some point in time. so the 'exchange hotel' either does have rooms to rent, or it probably did originally. we would also generally just call it a pub, unless using the actual name to tell someone where to meet up, but we would usually drop the hotel anyway, so that one would just be 'The Exchange'
yes your right about being like a British pub, there will quite often be a bar, a bistro and a gaming room downstairs and rooms upstairs.
The Houses system in schools is so with the School swimming carnival and athletes carnival they get points for the place they finished in each event . The House with the most points wins the Trophy for that year . It gives the children a chance to show who is the best athlete in each event . It also can show who might be able to continue to improve to Olympic standard .
Our money isn't exactly "plastic" as such, it is made from a polymer!! This makes it much more difficult to counterfeit, and it is also much stronger, and easier to keep dry and clean!! Our money doesn't tear like paper money does, which is another bonus!! 😊
...and if it gets folded or creases, it is a PITA to uncrease to get it to lay flat in the till. Also, it will shrink if exposed to extreme heat, so don't leave notes in your pants pockets if you plan to wash and tumble dry them.
The hotel/bar situation most towns started off with a hotel which would have a bar down stairs. Eventually most shut down the hotel part of the business.
A pub is a hotel. They are usually old with accommodation for travellers, hence they are the ORIGINAL hotels as in the UK. A monster hotel such as a Hilton is exactly the same but huge. They have accommodation, alcohol and food. And yes, Fosters is disgusting.
Pub (i.e. bar) is short for public house. Liquor licensing laws once upon a time required pubs in the olden days to also have some accommodation, like a house, even if it was just a couple of rooms. So lots of older pubs are still called a hotel, like the Queen's Head Hotel, or the Customs House Hotel, or the Imperial Hotel etc. although they no longer have accommodation. A few still do, however.
Okay with the hotel pubs. Pubs were also hotels because until the 1980s, pubs were required to provide rooms for rent in order to have a liquor license. And yes most are still hotels with rooms to rent a floor up. Not a great place to stay as they are often noisy grungy places. but they are cheap.
The reason we have such strict road rules and laws regarding speeding, is because we have a problem with road death tolls, and young people hooning and being silly in cars, and people of all ages drink driving. It is a lot better now. The Government tracks the numbers, especially during school and Christmas Holidays and often you get in double trouble for speeding or drink driving during these times. Our Licences are a point based system so you lose double points and get double fine amounts during these times. We also have road blocks set up by Police to breathalyize every person driving through, no exceptions. If you see it and turn around they will chase you becaaue that means you are likely guilty, and also unlike America, the Police here do not need probable cause to test you for alcohol or drugs if you are driving. If you want to know how serious we take it, watch some Australian Public Service Announcements (PSA’s). They will make you cry 😂😂😂
Also the fine and point loss for refusing a breath test is the same as the fine for drink driving. The long weekends are double demerits not double fined. At least here in WA.
I think only the US and Canada use letter size paper. The rest of the world uses A4.
Home brews are legal (since 1972) so it is quite popular in Australia to make your own beer. It has become quite an art form to produce your own flavours and show off your personally-made beers to friends.
In Queensland, they generally give you a bit of leeway on the speed. A policeman told me recently that if you go 10% over the limit, they will pull you over. He said this allows for possible errors such as speed gun inaccuracy, tyres with incorrect inflation etc. I believe Victoria is quite strict and being just a little over will get you fined.
Checking for intoxicated or drugged drivers is prevalent all over Australia, and rightly so. It is totally irresponsible to put others at risk. Most people accept being checked as a good thing.
We take the safety of our citizens seriously, which doesn't seem like much fun from the point of view of younger people but as you get older and the more you see and the more you experience, you do end up appreciating the lengths we go to keep our people safe. I do love Tristan's videos but they are very much from the experiences of a young person visiting our country, lol.

We are people who do a little bootlegging (we do A lot). We produce all of our own spirits, but in Australia, it is illegal to sell alcohol without a liquor licence. So all of our spirits are for personal use only and for food preservation only.

Speed limits. The maximum speed limit is 130km/h (81mph) that's in the NT, In the rest pf Australia, it is generally 110km/h (68mph)
Don't forget about the unlimited speed just north of Alice Springs, that keeps changing back to 130kmh depending on who is in government on the day. lol

@@stevegraham3817derestricted speed signs just mean there isn’t a set speed limit,😊 they still have the prima facile speed limit for that state which in the NT is usually 130 and other states is 110. I’ve seen derestricted signs in WA, there is one near Mullawa. I haven’t seen one in any other state in a long, long time. I’ve had my licence 56 years, there were quite a few of those signs once you got outside cities when I was first driving but they’ve disappeared over the years.

This vid is very city-east coast centric. (40) Rest of Australia you absolutely have to drive and there are parts of this country where there is NO speed limit. Lots of the country is 80mph, just not in the cities. Also it's 5kmh over speed limit that they will charge you, but you shouldn't be speeding anyway. (50) The sizes of the drinks are different from state to state, what is considered a "pint" and a "schooner" changes from state to state. (51) Again, bars open all the time isn't a common thing in all the states, that's very specific to the one city he's in.
Some of these vary by state. In my 30+ years of living in SA, I haven't seen anywhere that has free sunscreen. The 4 houses at school are usually for sports day, which is a whole day where the entire school are teamed up to compete against each other. The teams are usually sorted by the person's surname and you will usually be in the same team every year, although you do change when you transition from primary school to high school. In SA, the lowest recored speeding ticket was 4km over the speed limit. Each state has their own acceptable tolerance when it comes to speeding fines. Some teachers will alow you to call them by their first name, especially if their surname 2 difficult to say. I don't know anyone that calls their Dr by their first name but yes, I've never seen a Dr in a white coat and I work in a hospital. They are often in neat casual clothes or scrubs.
Chicken salt is the absolute best, its a must have for hot chips. I agree 100% about the flies, especially the ones that bite. Hotels are complicated. Some hotels (accommodation) are in fact called hotels (including the fancy ones), but then you get the pubs (informal restaurants), which are also often called hotels. Some pub hotels also have accomodation and they are called motels lol.
Speeding cameras are also generally more confined to the cities. Regional areas are usually unpatrolled and you are pretty unlucky if you get caught speeding in any rural area.
The traffic light thing wasn't properly explained. On some major roads where you can turn left or right (as well as go straight) its a dual traffic light system with the left hand side showing green so you can go if you arent turning and the right hand side will show a red ➡️ which means you cant turn right until the colour changes to a green ➡️ (opposite way if the intersection has a light system for turning left). You will also find triple traffic light with left hand side for the left hand turners, middle for continuing straight and right hand for turning right. In most cases this is to allow pedestrians to cross safely.

When I went to high school (QLD, 90s), you were allowed to use teacher's first names in the classroom if you were in year 11 and 12. The school decided to treat us as near-adults to help us be in an adult state of mind for our senior years of schooling and the decisions we would have to soon make about our futures. At the time, vocational education was only just emerging in QLD schools so most students in years 11 and 12 were aimed at university - we were treated like adults because we had to make adult decisions.

The speed thing depends where you are, in New South Wales, they tell you where the cameras are. And most of the states have 110 mph speed limits not 100.

The alcohol thing, and the same with cigarettes, are taxed really heavily to discourage binge drinking. Australians drink A LOT, and strict rules on limiting alcohol consumption is intended to lower incidents involving drunk people (violence, alcohol poisoning). With a public health system, anything they can do to prevent you from going to hospital is an investment in the health system.

Yes, as in most Commonwealth countries, school houses are an integral part of Aussie school spirit. Within the school, you're loyal to your house. Outside, you're cheering the school. These days, even older schools are designating house names using local Aboriginal terms. In my younger grandsons' primary school, for example, two of my boys are in Kaluin (black swan), and the third in Tibrogargan (biting flying squirrel). My older grandsons at middle school, stay at houses named Parrwang (magpie) and Kunawarra (black swan). Each house has its own sports kit colours.

I've seen immigrants in Oz charge $2 AUS for tomato sauce or gravy in a little cup like that when you buy a decent serve of chips (or fries to Americans). It's a CRIME ffs!!! It's ok. I know where to get the best chips or burgers in my city. It's a tiny little old school greasy take away and it's absolutely wonderful. There's very few of these old school greasy Joes type shops around now. They've all closed down and they sell fancy espresso and plated up salad with kale and pine nuts and jous and fucking pomegranates instead. If you're lucky they'll sell you a $30 burger that looks nice on the plate but it has no sauce or salt, and it's less than half the burger you used to buy for $8 wrapped in paper that you subconsciously make nom nom noises when you ate because it was so fucking good. And you could never finish the serving of chips that you ordered on top of it, even though they were perfect.
I miss the old Greasy Joe, Mum & Dad Burger Bars. Love me a big toasted (on the inside only) hamburger bun, with giant beef patty, BBQ sauce, onion, lettuce, tomato, pineapple, beetroot, egg, cheese and double the bacon, all wrapped in greaseproof paper. So big and so full of filling that it was almost impossible to get your mouth open enough for it. I would always end up picking drop outs off the paper to nibble separately. The egg and sauce would dribble over your hands and you knew you were eating a real burger. So hard to find that burger bliss now.

The lights are setup for the lanes since there is usually a dedicated turning lane for if you are in a lane that lets you turn right across traffic so long as it is either green or off (no light) you can turn, the "dot" is for through traffic so those who are continuing straight through the lights, and you can turn left on red at certain lights, sometimes they are marked with a sign but more often than not it is a dedicated turning lane without a light to allow better flow of traffic. For lane markings, centre markings are there to designate two-way flow of traffic (traffic going both ways on the road) there are three types of centre markings solid lines, dotted lines and double lines, solid lines mean that you are not allowed to pass even if there is no oncoming traffic (fines and point on your license), dotted lines allow passing if it is safe to do so, and double lines have two variations double solid meaning no passing for either lane, and solid on one side and dotted on the other allowing passing for traffic on the dotted side, also on rural highways there is usually a dedicated passing lane every 20 to 50 Kms depending on the council that maintains that section of road.

Australians follow the rules as it's more of a community base/feeling. The thing is most of us are happy to do so. Anything for an easy life. Our cops are a lot more chilled from what I've experienced as from those in the US. In the major cities the public transport runs until the early morning hours. If you go out as a group we have mini van taxi, we take safety and drunk driving seriously. "If you drink & drive you'r a bloody Idiot" was a major campaign. Adherence to 0:05 alcohol reading is not a problem for a lot of us. Most of us don't drink & drive. E.g If between 0.07 and 0.079, you will receive a fine of $1000 and five demerit points for 1st offence. You only have 12 pts, when you lose all 12 pts your licence is gone for 3 months. 2nd offence $1250 & disqualification of licence either 8 months or 10 months. The higher the reading the higher the consequences. 3rd offence - good luck getting a licence back. Maybe with a extraordinary licence and a lock out fitted to your car.

We also have the occasional "average speed" cameras. 2 Cameras many km apart (like 10-20km) that measure the time it takes you between the 2 cameras and gives you a ticket if you go past the 2nd camera too early.

Actually, there IS Sales Tax in Australia (called the GST), but it is automatically included in the displayed price, not tacked on when you buy something. The idea of buying something, then being told you have to pay extra because ..... Most Aussies would not put up with that, and I think doing it might even be illegal under the Trade Practices Act..
Australian toilets are typically shaped different to standard US toilets. They are more of a deep funnel shape, and DON'T have that designed-in whirlpool effect that Yanks seem to love in theirs.
Aussies don't do Ketchup, we have Tomato Sauce which is thicker and tastier. SOME places charge extra for sauce, not all and not usually much. If you order takeaway and want sauce or extra sauce, you might be charged extra per packet or sachet, but probably not an entire dollar.

Speed cameras are not actually everywhere, but they can be hidden, are moved around, and there are signs all over pointing out how you COULD be in a Speed Camera zone. Including in the outer suburbs, I'll add. But, in some heavily trafficked areas, they are openly and permanently placed. All this has a definite effect on driver behavior.

One of the English settlers in Australia from the late 1700s was named Lachlan.
Before massive city hotels were built, Australia had much smaller hotels, usually called family hotels, sometimes several per country town. They had rooms to rent, as well as public bars and pub meal service. As times changed and big hotels and motel chains came along, these hotels stopped renting out rooms, but obviously kept the names they'd been known by for decades/centuries. We generally refer to them generically as pubs. Aussies know the difference.

Speed limit is 110kmh in some states and most have a 5kmh leeway for inaccurate car speedos. But yes anything over and a hefty fine will result...think $400 for up to 10kmh over.
We have roundabouts (traffic circles) mainly in suburban areas, even in housing developments, we do have a couple in Melbourne itself, but not many. Another thing many of the suburban housing areas have is speed humps. Councils put them in to slow cars down in residential areas.

The "to go boxes" comment is not entirely accurate!! You can ask the restaurant if you can get a "doggy bag" (what you Anercans obviously call "to go boxes") to take left-overs home. Many restaurants will ackage your leftovers for you to take hone if you ask, BUT ... some restaurants don't do it, and the reason for that is "FOOD POISONING"!! If they package the food for you to go, and you don't store the food correctly when you go home (put it in a fridge that is the right temp), the food becomes contaminated, you then eat it the next day and get sick because you failed to store it appropriately, then the restaurant runs the risk of you blaming THEM for the food contamination and you getting sick, thereby opening the door to possible litigation!! Also, you might leave the food for too long before eating it, and also risk becoming ill from the food going past it's expiration period. Restaurants who won't give you a "doggy bag" are simy protecting them from any possible litigation that may come from food contamination tbat was NIT their fault, but rather the fault of the person who took the food home and did not store and/or reheat it properly before they then consumed it.
It is responsible behaviour on the part of the restaurant when you think about it. They're protecting the consumer and themselves! 😊

The reason many ____ Hotels are actually pubs is because many of them used to be hotels a very long time ago, and over time they just became pubs for one reason or another. In smaller country towns you can still see the Victorian era architecture in them and sometimes some of the old rooms are still there, if repurposed. Not all used to be hotels though, I think for some it's just a style

We have sports teams, usually named after aussie greats eg: Donald Bradman cricketer, Cathy freeman the runner but we just use last name. I was in Bradman because my last name starts with D. So that's how they split classes up into teams. Usually in public school not private ones

Each state has different rules about speed cameras.. Victoria and Qld the strictest.. NSW you won't get done unless your nearly 10ks over.
NSW it is 10%, so yes 10kph on a highway but not in a 50 zone.
Remember too that your speedo is showing higher than you're actually going. It's usually 2kph higher than actual at lower speeds and about 4kph at higher speeds. This is so the car company doesn't get sued if you get a speeding fine. 9nce you know that, you can factor út in. Eg I always set the cruise control to 10% over, so really I'm doing about 7-8% over and safe to pass cameras etc. On a Sydney-Melb trip, that saves about an hour (it's 850km) as it also saves one stop. On a trip to the supermarket it saves a minute so who cares but I don't get pinged so that's handy.
