That tops any "worst gig" story I can offer. But since you asked ... 😂 I was asked to play two nights with an ex-band I used to be in, and those two nights were two of the best shows I played. But exactly one year later I was asked to play that venue for two nights again. I asked if we would be opening for the same band like last time and the answer was "we are headlining instead!" I asked who would be opening for us "No one! Just us!" So we travel a considerable distance to discover that the stage inside the venue had been replaced with a buffet bar .... there was no stage for the band but we could set up on the concrete in front of the window .... and nobody showed up. When we arrived there were some people sitting at the bar ... they left. When we finished the night there was no money and I told the band I would not be joining them the following night and they should just go home and do something else. They said it was unprofessional for me to leave like that but I retorted that you first have to get paid to be a professional. I drove all the way home by myself that night but at least I had my car. I shudder to think what y'all went through.
