Inkscape - Cleaning up text written in a complex font

A viewer sent me this file containing some text in a font that was sort of a brush-stroke kind of font - lots of nodes, knicks in the sides of the letters, brush stroke tails on the letters. I show you how to clean something like this up enough to be able to cut it. This one is a bit more advanced but something well worth knowing how to do!

All these years later and it's still a good lesson. Exactly what I was looking for. Been making "titles" for my planner with the shadow/border/whatever you call it around the words and when I would take over to DS and cut out, it had 15 little itty bitty holes that I didn't know about. I can't figure out how to draw that box around nodes to delete them. So many tutorials leave out all the little steps that make all this possible. So frustrating.
