This tree had snapped off 40 ft up, had no limbs, and stood as straight as an arrow. The first cut was to be the notch, but it looked like the tree wanted to go the other way, so I put a small back cut on the other side so if it did, it would not split up the center of the tree. I then decided to try and pull it down with the winch on the tractor. I agree with everyone saying to kotch the trees, and normally I do.
Yeah I do, too; this tree had snapped off pretty high and had no limbs left but stood pretty straight, and that first cut was going to be the notch, but it felt like the tree was coming back on me, so I didn't know what the hell way it was going to go at that point so things got a little harry LOL

I always "notch" a tree. I think it is much safer.
