    Nice setup for a balancing machine, where inclinometer is not quit common , look forward to see your next one coming !

      Thanks Gayven. I will be posting a new one where I use 3 pots to control the PID. Took me minutes to tune the system.

    It it possible to keep the HDD in its case? This way it's safer, and one can take advantage of the vacuum inside for more efficient operation. As long as one can control the RPMs through the HDD controls. I am thinking to try this with a self-balancing monorails.

      Yes, but, weight is the big problem and I find the HDD isn't massive enough to generate enough torque unless you could spin it at 10,000 rpm. Better to just bite the bullet and have a rotor milled by someone from brass or aluminum.

    Nice job Jimmy! Solid and stable, very good!

    what is the weight of the flywheel which u have used. And what is the rpm of the motor when the flywheel is attached to it.

      I think each platter is about 46grams and I used 5 platters but the more the better to counteract weight of entire mechanism. Even 5 platters at 9000 rpm produces a lot of torque though. In this video the rpm was about 4000 which is the minimum to get it to balance. If you look at my later videos I upped it to 9000 which is plenty.

    What is the reason for a top heavy construction

    • @demej00
      @demej00  5 лет назад

      Hi George. I am not a real expert on this subject but when it is top heavy, as the gyroscope begins to lean in one direction the torque will cause the top heavy side to fall to the other side which counteracts the torque and causes it to self right itself. This gyrosope is a bottom heavy one and so needs active control to keep it balancing. It is pretty rough - see my later ones for a little smoother operation. I never was able to get a direct servo to gimbal control working unfortunately. Others seem to have cracked that nut. I have now moved on to other stuff but may come back to visit it again some day.

    Change the servo out with a stepoer motor it will be much faster and accurate

      Hi Yo. Thanks for idea. I had to write my own Proportional controller to get it working and now it works fairly well. The servo was jerking around so much it upset the gyro and lost balance. The servo seems to be working but i want to get this working really well so may look into using a stepper motor down the line.

    How about 2 counter rotating gyro's ?? Like they use in the lit motors self balancing car ??

    • @demej00
      @demej00  6 лет назад

      Yes, that would give it more torque to balance and it would allow a two wheeler to turn in both directions. My quest here was just to see if I could get a bottom heavy gyroscope to balance - which I have done a lot better job in the later versions (1,2 and 3). Unfortunately it seems that poor sensor ability is preventing me from getting really great balance performance. I have put these experiments on hold as I want to work on some other projects. Hope to come back to this some day. Thanks for your input.

    Did you made any design before or you did it by trail and error
    Actually i am trying to make a project on self balancing bike

    • @demej00
      @demej00  6 лет назад

      All trial and error. Self balancing bike would be very difficult but wish you the best of luck. Haven't seen that anyone was successful doing it. Take a big gyroscope and probably two of them to allow you to turn right and left. One gyroscope allows fairly fast turn to one direction but slow or no turn in the other direction.

      Jimmy Demello do you have anything i could get some help from? I mean videos gud but i request some paperwork any of it?

    • @demej00
      @demej00  6 лет назад

      Sorry vishal, I don't have any thing. I put my project on hold because I just can't get enough sensitivity out of my sensor to keep it balanced all the time - (too much vibration). In fact in 5 years of playing with self balancing projects I have not seen any documented project. Anyone who plays with this stuff is pretty much on their own.

      If you have specific questions, I can offer an opinion,thats about it. This project is specifically about making a bottom heavy gyro which no one seems to have out there. Most are top heavy gyros which will self balance easier but will still fall over if they are disturbed.

      Jimmy Demello okayy bro thanks.
      I'll start looking out and when I'll start it if i get any questions I'll ask from you.
      Thanks for the help already man!!!
