    Great review of the SG2. Most reviewers only seem to review devices from a media content creator's perspective - not everyone makes a living making RUclips videos!
    I have had the SG1 for a couple of years now (the lowest spec model). It's an amazing device for on-the-go work - I carry it around every day. I'm someone who wants a full desktop OS available when I need it.
    I agree that the battery life is not good enough for this type of device. If Microsoft could fix X86/X64 apps on ARM processors, they could resolve this.

    Hey nice review. But I have read there is heating issue in some versions of SG2 and SG3. Would you pls specify about it? I am planning to buy either SG2 (Refurbished) or SG3 (New) for basic use like word/excel/you tube viewing as a secondary option but don’t want a roaster. Which version should I opt for basic use?
    4GB/64 or 8GB/128?
    M3 or Pentium?
    Will appreciate your input. Thanks..

    My old Surface Pro 4 is starting to conk out. It's my back up device so I don't use it often but do use it from time to time. So its replacement doesn't have to be a powerhouse. The only requirement is that it needs to output to 2-3 FHD monitors when needed (using a DisplayLink hub). The SP4 can handle it like a champ but I'm worried that the SG2 won't be able to handle it.
    I know the SG3 is out now but as this is my secondary device, getting used is fine with me.

    Nicely done. I have one on order same model as yours but poppy red keyboard. I want it as a secondary on the go laptop/tablet to my main computer which is a nicely equipped Thinkpad X1. I would rather my tablet run Windows 10 because my favorite apps on the go are only Windows 10. And with One Drive I can work on the same files with both devices. My Samsung Android phone also works good with Windows 10.

    A very honest and well-made review. I really liked the pace and all the details.
    I am contemplating the idea of getting a secondary device like the Surface Go 2 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+, but I am so confused. For me, the stylus is a must. I do own a Galaxy Note8 (to be replaced this year), a Surface Pro 6 and a Galaxy Tab A 10.1. Since the Tab A is lacking the stylus, I sttickly use it to consume media or do some light reading (as a Ph.D. student, annotating is not convenient with the finger), hence the idea of getting a device with a stylus. I do not own any Apple device, so I am not considering any of this. Furthermore, as I already have a considerable amount of notes in Microsoft OneNote, I need a device capable of running OneNote with a stylus.
    So since my typical use case would be reading and annotating PDFs (EPUBs a plus but not mandatory) as well as note taking, do you have any specific recommendations or thoughts you can share? Keep in mind I can totally do this (and a lot more) on my Surface Pro 6, I just find it a little bulky on the go. As for my Note8, although I can read, annotate and take notes with the stylus, the screen is literally too small to do more than the occasional lookup, correction or quick note. So I guess (after writing this overly long comment/question), my real need is to replace my Tab A with a device that includes a stylus... Any suggestions?

  • @RK-um9tu

    So tired of RUclipsrs turning every Surface review into a lowkey Apple sales pitch.
    Fact 1 - I get over 11 hours of continuous RUclips viewing (50% brightness and Bluetooth, Wifi, and Battery saver all one) on my SG2 which is consistent with TomsGuides.com and laptopmag.com's RUclips battery tests. So battery life is outstanding.
    Fact 2 - Best Buy and Amazon continually have sales on Surface products and their accessories. My SG2 (8 ram, 128 ssd, Pentinum Gold) was only $389US. Type cover was just $43US. So pricing is not comparable.
    Fact 3 - Tablet mode on the SG2 is extremely fluid/smooth and Windows Store has over 600,000 apps. So SG2 is a better Tablet than an iPad (see Fact 4).
    Fact 4 - iPads aren't computers. More and more people are realizing this which is why iPad sales revenue has dropped drastically since 2013.
    Fact 5 - The SG2 has expandable storage. Do iPads?
    Fact 6 - The SG2 has a 1080p webcam. Do iPads?
    Fact 7 - 7:00 to 7:50 is fact-free Apple marketing...
    Fact 8 - There are other light portable 2-in-1 on the market so either mention them, don't mention iPads, or change the title...

    • @hoyoungwon
      @hoyoungwon  4 года назад

      Nope! That was my real time. FYI exclusively video watching/streaming is the way to get the best battery life out of a device ☺️. That's how those OEMs have ridiculous battery life estimates on their product pages.

    • @RK-um9tu
      @RK-um9tu 4 года назад +3

      @@hoyoungwon There is nothing ridiculous about facts. Fact 1 - Vast majority of people binge-watch videos/movies using the battery on these types of devices. It is probably the #1 activity.
      Fact 2 - Mixed usage is how you get ridiculous battery life. This is why Microsoft has received a lot of criticism for changing its SP battery test from video viewing to mixed usage.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 4 года назад

      In such a low-performing chip running a video will not stretch the processor thus getting a good battery life. However, as soon as you have to do actual work on these and push the performance then that battery will drain badly. That is when a chip like the A12X will surpass the Go 2.
      There are plenty of deals on the Pentium SG2 due to the poor sales so it works out cheaper than most iPads. If your usage is not taxing at all then the Go 2 will be a viable alternative. Once you start to think about the m3 version then the choice is more complicated.
      With regard to if the iPad is a computer or not, that will be in a few months answered squarely with Apple moving its whole business over to Apple Silicon? Then with Universal apps, the iPad will become a computer and the main difference will be that it is touch and probably will have a less powerful chip than the Macs. So that is def not "end of story". As for why iPad's sales have fallen (still around 400 million) is that the market is saturated and any Economic student will tell you that demand will inevitably fall. In recent times sales have perked up and I suspect further increases in the Fall.
      Enjoy what you like.

      @RK-um9tu 4 года назад +3

      @@andyH_England Surface sales haven't plummeted like iPads sales? Guess an iPad is a more elastic product than a Surface. Which makes perfect sense since their main users are children, students, and housewives...

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 4 года назад

      @@RK-um9tu iPad sales last quarter up 31% y-o-y see:
      9to5mac.com/2020/07/30/apple-q3-2020-earnings/
      Revenue of $6.8 billion on iPad alone in that quarter! All Surface products were $1.8 in the second quarter of 2020 MS accounts and they do not break it down viz Go sales but they will be small.

    Sorry but it is RIDICULOUS to claim that this is nowhere near comparable to a Galaxy Tab S6, let alone being better than it.
    At 650$ its hardware blows the surface out of the water..and the software is actually MUCH better for tablet use.
    And using the Go 2 for anything other than the Tab S6 can also do in terms of productivity, makes no sense anyway.
