    I have a 1957 Farnham Zephyr hi line automatic with Raymond Mays head 6 branch exhaust and triple SU. I braced the struts and got rid of the lever arm dampers on the rear

    my first car was mk2 brought it off my mates brother he use to drag race it in meremere new Zealand in the 70s it had x3 dolletos carbs worked heads and Bedford truck pistons mk3 gearbox 4 speed headers 4''pipe .I lowered it and ran 13s allround with wider tires had to cut part of the rear doors and guards to fit tires under there I remember the blue flame shooting out of the 4'' pipe at nite beast of a machine loved it and the sound it made was just pure bad and it was red that had to add another 50 hp lol

    That car's got a decent turn of speed and has strong acceleration.I would like to know what was done to the engine....

  • @100holistic

    Car was running a supercharger which gives it that whine. I understand that it was the normal block with a special head from that early era. Those Mk2 & 3 Zephers can really be modified with excellent results. You would be suprised. To me they had the car nicely set up with the suspension not too stiff, but well controlled. Some competitors forget that they have to use normal roads and arrive at the start line with a track setup.

      Yes, I noted he was trickling it along in the rain - rear jumped sideways like stock otherwise. I thought they would have engineered that out, lol. To be fair, I think the front is too low (too much weight off the rear) for wet weather racing, especially with the weight of the blower. Loved the sound and wish I had that performance with mine!

    To accelerate uphill like that, must be around 300hp. Very very quick, and beautifully thrashed too.

    Giving the Old Girl a Caning. Sounds pretty good. I was surprised that they were using the wipers around the 2:40 mark in light rain, and typical for Pommy cars to have them set up for LHD so the passenger gets the best view, but later in the video when it was Pissing down and they weren't going fast enough for the Rain X to work they'd taken them off. Must've been looking for That Aerodynamic Advantage!

    can I hear a blower?

    • @yumeneko63
      @yumeneko63 5 лет назад

      Probably not a blower. The whining noise sounds more like a gearbox with straight cut gears, rather than a supercharger.

    • @harrisonhunter7512
      @harrisonhunter7512 4 года назад

      I know it’s 3years later you may even know by now but it has from factory a 2.2 straight 6 but this sounds tough it may be a 2.6 from the 1966 mk3

    • @johnrroberts7900
      @johnrroberts7900 3 года назад

      If it's the standard block, it's a 2,553cc straight-six - but these are often bored-out 60-thou over for racing (any more and the standard cooling starts to suffer), taking it to approximately 2.6 litres. The 2.2-litre was the Mark I.

    TERRIFIC, BUT ORIGINAL ENGINE ??

    • @flossie5432
      @flossie5432 8 лет назад +1

      +HITHEREFOLKS -obviously not.The original engine could reach speeds that this one does-and you would hardly hear the car pass you.My Dad had one in 1958. When it was time for the scrapyard, due to rot caused by lots of night driving on very salty icy roads, the chap came out of the hut,said "start her up then mate" and my Dad said"the engine's running...".Miss that car.Black with white-wall tyres.

      +flossie5432 it's inevitable, falling in love with mk2 zephyrs !!!!! thanks for kind reply, were you living in UK back in the 50s ? my dad had a mk2 consul ,bought new in 1959....in regent street london, but.....i always wanted the zephyr...what a difference !!!!!!

      @flossie5432 8 лет назад +1

      HITHEREFOLKS -yes ,I was living in Manchester,UK.To ride in the zephyr zodiac was to fall in love with it.The white-wall tyres were an added attraction.I remember washing them every Saturday.X

    About the only thing original looks like the body/chassis. Sounds like a straight cut gearbox whine, and doubt it is original engine? Performance looks too strong, the original only had a top speed of 85mph at best. Would be nice to see a modern 3 litre V6, 32 valve ford engine in there, with brakes, gear box, steering and suspension to match.
