    That is interesting info👍. I had no idea Moffat & Bond were not racing genuine Cobra's, & the Genuine Cobra had red stripes.

    Great video. Loved the look of those big old Falcon coupes with the fat tyres. And great drivers like Moffatt, Bond, Carter etc. But my heart will always be with the GM product. The A9X is a masterpiece of design and performance, with Brock leading the lot. These were the greatest days of Aussie motorsport.

      yep just shows you what the mighty 5lt holden V8 did to a 5.8lt ford engine, even though the cobra looked better, but when it came to performance nothing beat the A9X lighter and better grip and steering compared to a heavier car even with larger tyres it still did not make a difference till the ford camp said a 1 & 2 finish will be the only way to make FORD great again, which they did, so there goes the win at all cost out the window right?
      Which is what they did had a 1 & 2 cobra finish with out that FORD was out of the race per say when it came to racing its cars, look at the XD with dick johnson and others as well nothing again?
      Go Holden all the way i say, even though i did have a XB GT and my Parents had the 1979 FORD LTD Town car in tropic gold in color, but a friend or should i say brother in-law parents had a Burgundy or dark red HZ Statesman Caprice with light cream leather trim ,smaller inside but still well appointed like both cars really the ford was larger and more space and comfortable compared to the statesman, cheers ✌✌👍👍🦘🦘

    As a big Ford fan, I do believe that 78 Cobras at Bathurst were replacers. You can tell by the vertical lights in front of the rear bumper, 8:44, and the true Cobras were horizontal. Please correct me if wrong, I wish I were.

    i have some info that may be interesting or confuse history. All of the info that follows are things that were told to me by fellow workers and my short time working at AMR. None came directly from Allan.
    My time there was during the final months of running the Federation /zakspeed color XC. Apparently the federation car was the Cobra repainted. I never thought to ask if it was even the original Moffat Ford Dealers car. Colin Bonds Cobra was still there in Cobra paint scheme. We also had a road Cobra painted shell which was slowly being built from parts as a road car.
    From what i know it was not a ford team and possibly was a parts only deal (a fair bit of assumption here). As a sign that things were not great with Ford he drove a Commodore and we resurrected the Chevy Monza sports sedan at that time too which raced at Sandown and Oran Park.
    I was told by staff (Once again not by Allan) that they had 001,002,003 Cobra badges. Allan's car 001, Colin's 002 and the built from parts 003. To be clear I never looked for or noticed the badges.
    Sorry to be short on proven facts but I thought this info might be of some interest to enthusiast

    Great work Steve! 🥝✔️Under Edsel B Ford's belt was the Cobra Mustang II, another cynical paint and sports pack upgrade. In an Australian setting, where the RP0 97 pack didn't go far enough was in weight reduction and engine endurance. The Holden GM GPOs effectively used an L34 Formula 5000 Repco castings, homologated through Formula 5000. Ford Australia, knowing the Cleveland had a suspect block, suspect nodular crankshaft and a known oiling and a standard adjustable non roller rocker problem in the 6200 to 7200 rpm zone, failed to use the durability items that were available from Ford's international supply. The 1969 366 Triple Carb Cleveland project allowed Ford Australia to pick up just 30 homologated durability components. Instead, a 400 pound heavier car, with No alloy heads, no Steel crank, no alloy block, no Boss 302 roller rockers, no drag reducing fiberglass Monza or Concorde show car van front. The 78 Falcon Hardtop failed under the pressure put on it by the A9X. Holden read the emerging combined sprint and endurance race conditions, and Ford Australia's best looking factory racer was short changed just like the XD, XE Falcon and Z28 Camaro were in 1980 to 1984.

      They did the bathurst pack for the Fords. plus it was group C. Most of the things you mentioned were open, they could run Nascar blocks. Plus the cobra just looked tacky and ugly

    In reference to 'Mad Max' with Mel Gibson, I was unable to identify what Production Car was his V-8 Interceptor? Looking back at the Ford Falcon Cobra, it looks very similar.
    Can someone tell me? I'd like to know.

    • @theroaringseason380
      @theroaringseason380  Год назад +1

      The Mad Max Interceptor was also a third generation Falcon hardtop. It was an XB model originally, which was the first facelift of the third gen Falcon. The Cobra Falcon in the video is an XC model, the second and last facelift. But basically the same car, just with a few aesthetic changes

    Nice looking cars,, but, too fat, too heavy to ever have a chance against the A9x, let alone the dollars being tipped in by Holden and the Guv. with its drink driving laws .. ie 05.. Ford did 9/10ths of fek all for the lads pedalling their brand.. AMR was just that.. HDT.. says it all.. Sadly, we only have V8 stupour cars today.. something I just wont bother to watch.. Not relevant, and piss poor viewing. mho
