Stephen immigrated from Poland after WWII. Polish was his native tongue, and he learned English after moving to Canada. Poland is at the crossroads of Europe and has always been a multilingual country. Its citizens typically spoke more than one language (and still do). For centuries prior to 1918, Poland remained divided between Austria-Hungary and Russia. When WWII broke out, Hitler occupied the western half of Poland, while Stalin seized the eastern half (later Hitler took all of Poland). It is no wonder that someone escaping from such a place had at least some command of both Russian and German. It wouldn't surprise me to know that Stephen also spoke, say, Czech or Ukrainian.

The Frontera prison segment has always been memorable to me. Institutionalized corruption, murder and perhaps a cover-up. So many loose threads and ample speculation.
Another great episode with not one, not two, but THREE of my favorite cases. Stephen Michalak's bizarre UFO experience is worth relating simply for its unusual details: a classic "Close encounter of the second kind." Few things on this show ever made me angrier than those corrupt guards at Frontera. And the sad sight of that missing man trying to sell fish out of a van never left me. As a bonus, we get an update on the Loving case, which I also enjoyed.
It was the '60s, back when the US was doing experimental aviation projects. It's not unreasonable at the time to presume it could have been either the States, Russia or Germany.
The flying saucer story was unbelievable. I remember these kinds of stories back in my younger years..oh those were the days my friend I thought they’d never end... how I miss those days. Robert Stake..I still love hearing his voice

I commend this female corrections officer for speaking out about the truth of things irregardless of all she stood to lose. There is so much corruption within government and factions of government that we, as citizens, owe it to ourselves and our fellow man to do all we can, when we can to stand against it at all costs. Our silence and inaction is often very much a part of most problems.

Cathy and Fred's story ❤ Where was her mother?? He looks like he could be her real father. God sent her a guardian angel. What a cute older man he is 😊
I have the same question. Don't tell me her mother just left her or was in denial of what was going on. What happened to her siblings? What happened to her stepfather? I bet he wasn't arrested for what he did. Pathetic system back then. Until those questions are answered, there's no real closure to this story. However the happy ending is Cathy reuniting with Fred Lyle. Glad they got to do that, thanks to UM. Sad story with a beautiful ending.
@@pansysgarden Her mother was in denial and believed her husband. Nothing happened to her sisters & because he was a detective with judges in his pocket, no he was not held accountable.

The skeptics says the silver ore should be enough to discount Stephen Michalak's story. Yet we have numerous other physical evidence like Stephen Michalak's burns, the thermal damage to the trees, and so forth.
How is any of that evidence though? Those burns were found to be chemical meaning he could have used household chemicals to make them and the area in the woods could have been made with a simple fire.
@@mobileswordtype2 So WHY were those burns flaring up every three months making him physically sick? And WHAT kind of chemicals would make those kind of wound patterns? Just some food for thought.
*Unsolved Mysteries* - New voice Liam Neeson - go back to the old intro, ya know, like when Stack was still doing it not when Dennis Farina was doing it. Now you can be a hit show again, you're welcome.
The entire prison story upsets and disgusts me so much. To leave a woman dead in a cell for three days!? To not follow your friend to see what’s going on when she’s getting followed to the bathroom alone by a stranger?! Betty was incredibly brave and you could see how much this pissed her off. Good people get put in these shitty situations way too often.
It is disgusting how few people will stand up for others. It is my biggest pet peeve. I cannot stand it. I will flat make an ASS of myself to stand up for others. I would have raised hell before letting someone lay there dead for 3 days.
I have to say the Frontera Prison/Jesslyn Rich story was chilling. The lengths wicked people go through to cover up their evil **** is both infuriating and terrifying. Sooner or later, all the people got to be willing to rebel against it even if it means death.
As a kid, this theme song would creep me out. My family and I lived in a haunted building and it was my fear that this theme would attract paranormal activity.
I believe what Betty says about the prison..it happens in every one of them..my daddy worked in one & he said the scandals that go on are just unbelievable..
14:20 “We have the 2 craft in a hanger over here and we were experimenting with them at the time, SORRY. And I’d wanna go and see them, and I’m sure dad would too.” He doesn’t get that wanting to go and see them is the exact reason that they’ll never admit that it was experimental stealth tech they possess.
I’ve worked for the military for 20 years. Government workers are curious and talk like anyone else. Office scuttlebutt was that 95% of UFO sightings were highly advanced stealth aircraft that exist for espionage purposes, and 5% are legitimately unknown. But they say that the aircraft we have now are 50-100 years ahead of current public technology.
The main rumor was that the US Government actually uses UFO’s as a cover for espionage. Purposefully designing aircraft to resemble commonly described UFO’s and such, so that if one were to crash in Russia or Iran, the government could deny it was them and pretend it’s aliens, thus avoiding potential retaliatory responses.

It's always sad when there are no updates considering the most recent updates to these cases have been added to this upload of the series on RUclips/Prime :(
Some of the cases have been solved since they were uploaded on RUclips. So, hopefully many more cases will be solved in future :)
I got hooked on this show! It's funny because it used to scare the mess out of me when I was younger.
Funny that Bob lazar said the same thing that the craft he worked on was seamless and looked like it was printed. He also said the the same thing that the visitors was referenced as children but didn't know why maybe it was because they sounded like stefan described like little children
16:41 lol the Coroner is “Eddie” (Ned Bellamy) from the Seinfeld episode the “The Fatigues”.
My favorite episodes will always be the ones with scary alien/ufo's in them. That and the one with the chupacabra.
The best voice.
FRED LIYL U R ALSO MY HERO FOR ALL YOUR HELP ❤ SENDING LOVE TO YOU FROM AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺 ❤️ 😊
Anyone recognize that the actor portraying Stephen Michalac also played a Russian hitman in the Steven Seagal film The Glimmer Man?
Really? Wow!
well spotted
@@reneedennis2011 I believe The Stephen they interviewed is the real Stephen M!
Fred Lyle you are one cool brother and to that Lady you are like the women of my youth that I remember, who are all but gone but I'm glad that their are good women like yourself that are still around.
Kathy Williams is an awesome lady. I hope she is doing well to this day.
I remember watching this episode when it 1st came out. My how time flys
@@mobileswordtype2 jesus christ
@@mobileswordtype2 So a simple man was able to make a PERFECT grid pattern on his chest and stomach. Idiot.
@@stolasgoetia93 Probably used a kitchen utensil to help. Maybe a potato masher or any other device with such a pattern
@@mobileswordtype2 So WHY were those burns flaring up every three months making him physically sick? And WHAT kind of chemicals would make those kind of wound patterns? Just some food for thought.
I remember this very episode when I was just a little kid. UFO encounter amazed me just as much then as it does now!
Love Cathy & Fred ❤☺️
*Unsolved Mysteries* - New voice Liam Neeson - go back to the old intro, ya know, like when Stack was still doing it not when Dennis Farina was doing it. Now you can be a hit show again, you're welcome.
needs to be re started deffo n i cant think of a better voice over than neeson
Omg liam neeson would be perfect
Sure and it would be like "i will find you and you will be able to solve the mystery". .
@@craftsandnails hahaha
Liam Neeson, good pick!🤗🤗
They need to do a whole TV show on prison unsolved mysteries
i use to watch all these shows in the 1980s an 90s
they never get old
I Love that. meal that sister cooked for Bro. Fred Lyle, it Looked good especially that macaroni and cheese Lol.
4 Days.
6:57 I’ve always wondered what Mickalak said in Polish after he burnt his hand by touching the UFO.
Ouch
He said, fuck you yankee boy
I can tell you that it was not polish. I do not know what langauge it is but it is definetly not polish :D
He called the aliens “lying, dog-faced, pony soldiers.”
What a beautiful story...how far a kind act can travel.....
I like this version of the theme song, terrifying back in the day .😦
40:53 missing drunk guy selling frozen fish house-to-house, damn, that’s quite bizarre if true.
why tf did the guard lady keep showing up to work for 7 months after the threats started? Go right to the cops the same day!
Exactly!!!! I get that being unemployed with two kids sick but what if they killed her during her shift or something l? Smh
30:52-33:01
THAT'S BEAUTIFUL AND HE WAS DEFINITELY HER HERO!! 🥰 HE WAS AN EARTH ANGEL!! 😇😊
My first encounter was also in 1967!
I'm listening...
My encounter was in 2001...
I believe what Betty says about the prison..it happens in every one of them..my daddy worked in one & he said the scandals that go on are just unbelievable..
Is it just me or did that food cooked for Mr. Lyle look delicious
great tv series thanks
Fred passed away October 5 1998 he was 66 at his funeral cathy told there story to his church ⛪
14:20 “We have the 2 craft in a hanger over here and we were experimenting with them at the time, SORRY. And I’d wanna go and see them, and I’m sure dad would too.”
He doesn’t get that wanting to go and see them is the exact reason that they’ll never admit that it was experimental stealth tech they possess.
I say 'what the hell is that'
4:03 😂 gets me every time. Gotta love those OG’s from the 80’s and 90’s.
