After 3 months I had to come back & watch this one again. Spring 2020 marathon planning (L.A.) and I’m considering the Rebel. I’ve been training in the NB Propel & oh my what a great trainer. Because of the Propel the Rebel is on my radar for race day.

Philadelphia marathon in November, Sketchers Hyper Elite. A little heavier than I used to race in. Used to use something like Nike zoom LT when I ran 2:22. But at 41 years old I need extra cushion. Also hoping to get a pair of sketchers road max 4 hypers to train in as soon as they come out.

Glad to hear you would run a marathon with these shoes! I've been training a lot with these lately (tempo, long runs, easy runs, for a total of about 520Km), and they have proven to be very good in all scenarios. They still feel springy, and never feel my legs are beat after a session. I used to wear the Adidas Adios 4 for half marathons, and I felt they were a bit harsh. I will be running an IM with the NB Rebel (probably a new pair though). Thanks for the review!

I've tried these shoes, feels very responsive and cushions. Feedback when impact with surface can be handled perfectly.
New balance has done a very extraordinary progress with these shoes. Noted that the shoes is a bit narrow and I upsize about 1.1/2 from my size to get comfort felling.

Seth's review is spot on, this shoe is COMFORTABLE. I had the feeling the shoe was glued to my foot during my run. I can feel the pop while running and it does making me wanna go faster. I have tried the NB fuelcell rebel, Beacon, Hoka Rincon, Carbon X. Rebel is the best fitting, most comfortable one of them. It is on the top of my list for my first marathon. The problem of the Carbon X for me is that the heel cup doesn't stick to my heel, combined with the very stiff carbon plate, it separates from my heel on every stride.

  • @RowOfMushyTiT
    @RowOfMushyTiT 5 лет назад +1

Just bought a pair yesterday, thanks to your recommendation.
Your review is spot on. Superb upper, nice pop, very light.
Handles slow paces well unlike carbon plate shoes, and fast paces better than pure foam shoes (like Epic Reacts).
For Ultra distance I still want to try the Carbon X, but I worry the stiffness would become annoying over 6+ hours.

My experience between the Pegasus 35 Turbo (436miles/704km and Rebel (128miles/207km) thus far:
Comfort: Rebel wins - it's more squishy underfoot, maybe a bit too much as you can feel every stone you run over. Turbos gives me toe pain as the toe box is narrow. Beacon is still the best in terms of comfort.
Speed: Turbo wins hands down. Rebel is fast but the Turbo gives so much more energy return. It's easier to go faster in the Turbos even with 700kms use.
Durability: Probably the same. No signs of any chunking from the outsole on either shoe. My running includes on tarmac and off.
Overall win: Turbos. I'll choose these everytime over the Rebel. Just a superior shoe in my honest opinion.

I tried on the Rebel a few weeks ago, but went with the Beacon 2 instead. The Rebel felt much more narrow and seemed to hug my foot unlike any other shoe I've used in recent memory. Just didn't feel right for me. Plus, I don't think I'm fast enough yet to enjoy the same Pop response you were getting from it. I'm running the Snohomish River Run Marathon in October and the Klickitat Trail Marathon in November.

    • @jefreywith1f924

I agree. I bought the rebel at my normal size and took them out for a few trial runs. The shoe runs short and narrow in the toe box. My toes felt squashed. A lot of the reviewers on the new balance web site also had that problem. Going up a extra size or width because of the sock type bootie would have affected the lockdown performence of the shoe. I totally agree, the beauty in the shoe is in the softness and responsiveness of the midsole. I also wonder if the dense upper is going to provide enough protection against the cold in the winter months. Can't wear these shoes with thicker socks. I too returned these shoes for the beacon. Maybe not as fast, but definitely more versatile.

Rik, I will have my marathon debut in September in the New Forest marathon, Hampshire, UK and will be in my NB 1080v9 unless the NB Fuelcell Propel I got today provide a better ride!!

ADE HARDCASTLE , nice work! My girlfriend ran the new Forest marathon last year. Really nice area to run and a lot of friendly people and good organisation. A lot of gravel roads (keep this in mind when choosing shoes 🤓).
I think the 1080 v9 will do great. Enjoy & good luck!! 🏃🏻‍♂️

I picked up the Beacon 2 a couple weeks ago. Have maybe 40 miles on them. It took some break in before the uppers got flexible enough to feel comfortable. The only other thing is the insert. Probably Spenco’s since I’ve used those before and are reasonably priced.

Hi Seth! New subscriber here, I really like your content. I started watching your review videos to try to figure out what shoes to get to practice for my 2nd 10k ever after my Brooks Glycerins were done. From your videos I found the Beacons v1 for a good price and I am pretty happy with them (slight achilles rubbing issue). I also recently tried on the Razor 3 shoe and it felt fantastic but it is very expensive here, still thinking it over if I should get them to run sprints in and for the 10K which is in 3 weeks or just run in the Beacons. Do you or maybe someone else here have an opinion if the cushioning on the Razors are enough for heavier guys (I am 90 kg but in decent shape)? From your review videos I also started watching your other vlogs and tips on running etc and it is all very informative!

Thank you so much for being here. I do think the Razor 3!has enough cushion, but I’m not sure if the midsole durability will go past 250 miles. I think the build quality needs to be improved. Thanks again for being here

I'm close to your weight. I can't run in the razor 3 at all without feeling super beat up, especially speed work. Maybe it's good for somone who's lighter? I can run in the beacon all day long. I'm actually planning on retiring the razor 3 from my rotation because I'm super afraid I'm going to injure myself in it. I bought it for a 10k road race day shoe, just not gonna happen, I'll go with another shoe on race day.

@@nickolasscott5513 Thank you for the response, very good to know! Might try to get the Brooks launch for race day, they have a discount day coming up. The Beacons feel nice but my legs and the Beacon don't feel like one unit. I have only ran in them for 20km so this might change :). Also I am a bit tired in my sole after running in them, I tjink this is because they are so flexible so I am flexing my foot more which I guess I am not used to :)

@@SethJamesDeMoor Thank you for the response! I think I will wait with the Razor 3 and see if it will be on discount. I also wanted to check if you have a favourite shoe regarding the grip, as I see there is often snow where you live?

Well I tried the Brooks Launch 6 and my foot doesn't like them. I might run in the Beacons for the 10 K :)

I'm the same as you, overpronate a bit more on one side, and my first pair in D width felt a little too keen to overpronate. I ended up exchanging for 2E and the slight extra width actually feel noticeably stable than the D width. Still rolls and transitions just as well as D. The only downside is the laces end up a little long because I have to tie things down a little tighter.

QOD - Marine Corps Marathon. Might use the 4%, but the possibility of using the Rebel is there. Love the NB FC Rebel for speed runs. I choose them over the PegTurbos.

Rincon! more comfortable, lighter, and faster. I've used both.

QD: The Swiss City Marathon in Lucerne at the end of October. I was Tempted for Amsterdam when you announced it! but I'm enjoying to run with elevation finally after living for 7 years in The Netherlands. Be prepared for how ridiculously flat NL is (and humid)!

I'm running the Yorkshire Marathon in October. Will be my first Marathon. Not really sure what shoes to wear for this. Possibly the New Balance Beacon V1? Got the Great North Run Half Marathon on September the 8th which I have a few choices for. Its between the New Balance Beacon V1, New Balance Fuelcell Rebel and Adidas Adizero Boston Boost 6 🤔
