As schools gear up for the summer, it's crucial that they think a little differently about how they handle surplus IT equipment. Every summer, we see about less than half of the RFPs we receive from schools have any provisions about using certified electronics recyclers for the disposal of their surplus computers. This is alarming given the data security and environmental implications of performing IT disposal incorrectly. Many schools are even mandated by the state to sell their equipment on public auction with no requirements to use certified recyclers. This not only jeopardizes prioritizes sensitive student data, but also puts the risk of e-waste harming our environment in a higher category. By mandating the use of certified recyclers, schools can better ensure that they act complciently and safeguard their assets at time of disposal. It's time that we prioritize security and sustainability and the way our schools dispose of IT assets. Let's make a change this summer. We need you to advocate your local school districts to properly dispose of IT equipment using certified electronics recyclers. For more tips like this, follow IT Asset Management Group.
