im 48 years old & i had never heard the "gingers have no soul" thing until this episode, so, if i had to guess, id say yes, this is where it came from, or at least its what gave the hypothesis some serious legs to stand on.
You guys are fantastic! Thanks for watching this, one of my favs. If youre looking for suggestions, Insecurity, Chatgpt, and You have zero Friends are all fantastic
It's funny Cartman is very smart, clever and motivated. He can take some dirt and build a mountain. He just uses those talents for the worst things. xD
Yes, he is very capable; he quickly adapted to the new situation and became a leader who succeeded in his purpose. He only stopped because he discovered the truth."
Does anyone remember that viral video of that angry ginger kid arguing and pleading with viewers that gingers do in fact have souls? I loved that clip 😂
I'm a ginger and I was 36 when this came out. I'd never heard that gingers had no soul until this episode. So they may have started it. They started it for me. I love this episode. I was at work yelling RED POWER! the day after I saw this episode originally.
“How did he turn this all around?” The answer is charisma. Cartman, next to Randy, has the most charisma and can sway an audience with the right words and energy, and that’s all an idiot needs to convince another idiot.
I've just discovered that seven American presidents had red hair: Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren, Rutherford B. Hayes, William Howard Taft, Calvin Coolidge, and John F. Kennedy. So, there are numerous influential and powerful gingers Cartman and his ginger friends could have mentioned if they had known where to look.
Same thing in the Michael Jackson episode, if I remember correctly. It's been many years since I've seen that. For a totally different reason, I fondly remember the episode with Chef's parents. I'm too lazy to look it up😅
Not really. While SP made it trendy as a reference (references being such a popular thing at the time, even more so than now, that you could barely get through a conversation with a person without them making tv show references), it was still pretty common before the airing of the episode.
South Park did not start the joke about Gingers having no soul. That's been a thing for a long time, back when they were doing witch hunts in old-school Europe. This episode did help spread that joke.
In Australia, gingers get called "Rangas" as in O-rang-utan. I'm pale with freckles, but i have brown hair, so im a "Bronga" Trey and Matt got the idea for this episode after reading about a family in the UK that moved location because of the amount of abuse they recieved fir having being Ginger. They thought it so absurd, yet this episode had the opposite effect as intended, and introduced British anti-ginger prejudice to a North American audience who ran with it These days Disney race swaps classic redhead characters with other ethnic minorities.
No, Historically South Park did not come up with the " Gingers don't have souls". While they may have resurrected it in the modern era ( pun intended) it actually stems from an ancient Greek belief that Gingers would become vampires when they died. Recommendations: Timmy 2000. This one is the original Timmy episode. And the Mel Gibson episode, I believe it was called the passion of Mel Gibson, explains the throwaway line from Awesome-O " Cartman is supposed to be grounded for trying to eradicate the Jews"
No, the "Gingers have no souls" did not originate with South Park, it originated in the UK by the Catholic Church towards the Pagans (Vikings) and Red Hair being a visible sign that you were Pagan/Not Christian. All non-Christians were considered soulless. South Park did however originate Kick A Ginger Day in Canada, with this episode. England is notorious for harboring some of the most extreme violence and hatred towards Red Heads, just last year a 13-year-old girl was stabbed twice in her leg for her red hair. Australia also has a reputation for hatred towards Red Heads. So Ed Sheeran's comments make a lot of sense because there was an uptick in hatred/violence towards kids with Red Hair thanks to this episode.
Goth kids 3 needs to be on the list. You have seen the first two in the trilogy (Raisins, Ungroundable) but Goth kids 3 is about the Emo era and I think you two would love it
In old mythos redheads were said to be the result of stealing a soul from the fires of "hel" or the underworld. The flame like tint, and passioned heart from those with red hair came from the same tales.
I think the horror movies they were parodying was Village of the Damned and Children of the Corn. I remember there was a video of a ginger kid where he was ranting about gingers having a soul, but I honestly think SP did start it because like you said the Daywalker bit was a parody of Blade but also it is just an extension of the bullying Matt Stone put up with in school for being Jewish.
It’s crazy to think if you think about the meeting scene where he start with the ginger kids trying to think of famous people but earlier he did a whole presentation and mentioned carrot top and others but didn’t mention him at all. 😂
When I try thinking of who could have been an inspirational figure with ginger hair, JFK often comes to mind. Wasn't he ginger? It's possible that many people didn't perceive him as such because the photos and television broadcasts of the time were in black and white. However, I believe he was ginger, and he was indeed a beloved and great man in many respects.
Way back when this episode first aired (15 yrs ago?), there was a ginger kid on RUclips with a channel called Copper Cab. He went on a rant the day after this episode aired. He yelled and screamed at South Park saying things like "You're not God! You don't know who has souls! Gingers have souls!" His video went viral, something like 10 or 20 million views. South Park responded a few days later with a parody in which Cartman performed the exact same rant. This was back when South Park would do stuff like that, interact with their fans and the audience. The whole thing was too funny. I miss those days. That was back when RUclips used to be ccol and would allow stuff like that.
The doctor saying you need to get rid of him is a play on doctors saying if a baby has down syndrome rpthey try and convince you to abort which is wrong on all accounts
You probably get every episode as a suggestion, but you should watch the first episode just for kicks. I mean, imagine no one had ever seen anything like this show before and it’s like WTF.
I do remember seeing news stories or something about Ginger kids getting picked on way more after this episode aired lol. As if they didnt already have it rough enough.

Yes, he is very capable; he quickly adapted to the new situation and became a leader who succeeded in his purpose. He only stopped because he discovered the truth."
He's a natural leader. There's a reason why he's a role model for so many
Cartman often lacks follow-through though
Moral of the story: "Never try to make Cartman to learn his lesson. It will only make things worse for society."
Unless it's about the “Dog Whissspperer”. But he disappears at some point and Cartman becomes the “old” Cartman again. 😂
Does anyone remember that viral video of that angry ginger kid arguing and pleading with viewers that gingers do in fact have souls? I loved that clip 😂
Then South Park responded by making a frame by frame remake of the clip starring Cartman as the kid. Kinda felt bad for him after that.
I think EVERYONE remebers that clip, is part of Earth's culture now. I'm from Brazil and I know that
That kid was on tosh.o lol
Yes and he still makes videos. His social media is him commenting on 'ginger related' stuff.
@@kennethbryant5819that’s pretty shitty

I love this episode. I was at work yelling RED POWER! the day after I saw this episode originally.
lol what, that has been a thing since 100s of years
Yeah, my mother in law was a red head. Wonderful woman, but we joked with her about this long before 2005.
Well to be fair, they're were correct back then. Gingers have no souls. Neither doe anyone else.
Kyle "needlessly" beating the hell out of Cartman after he was already knocked out will never stop making me laugh 😂
Yeah that was one of my favorite parts too 😁
The ginger kids in this episode remind me of the kids from the children of the corn movies 😂
They have a children of the corn spoof episode 😂
@@givmemilk1921 Outlander! We have your woman outlander.
I'm a ginger, and I legit thought Kacee was one of us! Please... Kacee... don't deny your heritage! You are so fun and I love your red'ish hair :)
I always considered my hair to be more “auburn” and didn’t know that counted as ginger but I’ll take it! 😂
@@DosCavazos One of us... one of us!
"Gingers will get you while you sleep". If you think about it, Kyle proved him right 😆
And with episodes 200 and 201 revealing the truth that Cartman is, in fact, a Ginger, the circle is even more... circley... rounder?
I'd recommend "Cartmanland" or "Proper Condom Use" for some classic under the radar episodes.
“How did he turn this all around?”
The answer is charisma.
Kennedy.

"hello fellow gingers out there..."
Haha that stare made me feel very uncomfortable, like my soul was in danger lol
Can't wait for you two to see "The Jeffersons" episode. My favorite from the early seasons. You get to see Kenny's face and hear his actual voice.
Same thing in the Michael Jackson episode, if I remember correctly. It's been many years since I've seen that.
For a totally different reason, I fondly remember the episode with Chef's parents. I'm too lazy to look it up😅
My favorite moment in this entire episode is Butters laughing at Cartman on the bus. 😂
Kacee's a daywalker!
In popular vernacular yes South Park started it - they got it from older sources but SP reintroduced it into the zeitgeist.
Trey and matt are also making fun of censorship. Anogram ginger. Replace that word and the world would explode in outrage not laughter.
Not really. While SP made it trendy as a reference (references being such a popular thing at the time, even more so than now, that you could barely get through a conversation with a person without them making tv show references), it was still pretty common before the airing of the episode.

Crippled summer is a good one to watch. Has some Towelie backstory and some unhinged moments 🤣
lol dude actually looks kinda stylish with red hair and dark beard lol.
Cartman also hates hippies!!
Not him laughing hysterically while a little girl is getting beaten up by an angry mob 😂
3:34 is absolute comedy gold 💀
Yes, South Park started the Gingers dont have souls thing lol
Edit: They might not have originated it but it definitely blew up after this episode.
Sucks how it got blown out of proportion by people and kids that were too stupid to understand the satire
they didnt its old christian folk tail off ginger being red because hell touch them
Me and my friends were saying this at least 15 years before these episode came out...
It didn't originate from south part but south park made it wide spread
No they didn’t. I’m born in 1975 and that was a thing when I was a kid
Ginger Kids!!!! Fuck Yeah!!!!!! This is in my Top 5 South Park episodes 🙌🏽
9:27 One of the best animated punchlines ever.
South Park did not start the joke about Gingers having no soul. That's been a thing for a long time, back when they were doing witch hunts in old-school Europe. This episode did help spread that joke.
The ginger no soul thing didnt originate with South Park, but South Park definitely helped it get a huge new blast in popularity

Chucky’s from my hometown...he escaped
Cartman just understands the system and knows exactly how to use it.
SO do trey and matt. If you anogram ginger and then replace it with ginger in the episode. Outrage not laughter. just words right .
Fun Fact, this episode is the Introduction of the Airport Hilton to the Franchise.
Love this episode! One of my all time South Park top five.
When this episode dropped, there was a major influx of jokes about gingers having no soul. The show was definitely what popularised the saying.
I was not expecting the wig lol
