As leon progressed a lot. I think that he will break the record of Phelps (400 m medley) this year

I wish in America you guys would compete in short course METERS, like everyone else in the world. These times make no sense at all to anyone living outside the US...

in order for him to go 3.25 he still needs to be out 47.1 i think that’s good enough to get him there and i think his backstroke Needs to be a 51.0 which puts him 1.38.1 first 200 I think a 58.0 on breast is fine just a bit quicker than he was but closing 49.8 is crucial which puts him at 3.25.9

Let’s how much the underwaters contribute to smashing the records when he transitions to long course. Of course, he’s going to dominate - I’m just interested in seeing what the impact of being unable to swim over 50% of the event underwater will be for him. At this point, if you’re going to allow over 50% of the length uw, might as well create a separate event for the “5th” stroke.

Last year, his submarines were already equivalent when he achieved 3.34 in the Ncaa final and finished 2nd, which did not prevent him a few months later from achieving a 4.04 in the long course world championship final (at 0.40 of the oldest world record).
This year, it is all of his swimming techniques that he has improved, in particular the backstroke and the freestyle and which explains his 6 seconds less, ..... with the same submarines

@@maellestanvideos6750 let me clarify two things:
      (1) of course he is going to continue to dominate. I’m interested in seeing the transition to long course this year to see what the transition is going to be like. For example, it could be possible that the transition is linear - taking into account the factors, he performs equivalently. Or, he modifies his approach and improves on his equivalent short course performance. Or, he still dominates but not equivalently. It’s just an interest because he is doing so amazingly well. Not a critique that he doesn’t deserve to win. Obviously he does, and since other swimmers are also swimming massive submarines, it leads to my second point.
(2). The sport is changing / has changed to be determined by submarines. It’s called the 5th stroke. The IM is 4 strokes. Myself and others aren’t really that enthusiastic about this because, besides the hypoxic aspect, submarines are easier and faster that other strokes. Ok, so it MUST be part of the event but to the degree where the submarines take more than 50% of the length and / or event? It’s then more about the submarines than the stroke if you think about it.
So, I think people are getting confused with my statements because I am not diminishing Marchand’s performance per se - it’s a paradigm shift in the sport. But what I am kind of criticizing is the emphasis on submarines because those are not the stroke. If it really is the 5th stroke, why not just create a separate event? Instead of shifting the emphasis to underwater a at the expense of the other strokes.
I am pretty sure that if the rules were changed to limit the submarines Marchand would still dominate. That is obvious.

I agree, he very likely demoralised those behind him. Hugo had a strong finish but still miles away.
