That Vitus is nice :) I have upgraded my gravelbike to allroad. Swopped one by 40 chainring- 11-42 cassette gear with two by, 30-46 chainrings, 11-36 cassette. Heavy enough geared for ca 50 km/h slightly descending and light enough for 5 km/h in the climbs. With 45 mm tyres and 30 mm damper I survive holes in the road, and goes reasonably fast both on gravel and tarmac, although somewhat slower than my racebike with 25mm tubular tyres. My allroad gravelbike do have an affair with lycra :)
Just get a cyclocross frameset. Build it up as a roadbike or a gravelbike whatever you fancy. 1x/2x both works. Skinny or wide tires. It can do it all. They’re the actual “allroad” race bikes
Cyclocross and “traditional” road bikes aren’t exactly the same. But, what you said is what I did almost ten years ago with a Redline Conquest cyclocross. It did the job very well.
@@notime2stop That's a good point. Traditional cyclocross bikes are a "unique breed." Back then, before the modern gravel bike and "all-road" bike came around, the traditional cyclocross bike was pretty much the only option. Although, one thing that I witnessed (and did) back in those days was take an old touring bike or hybrid and use it as a makeshift cyclocross or gravel bike. Times have changed since then.
@ u can consider a xc mtb an allroad too then. The concept of an “allroad” frame is just another marketing scheme to sell more bikes. While cyclocross frames have been out there for so long. Allroad bikes are often more endurance focused and heavy. While an cyclocross frame is light and race focused giving you a more aggressive position.
Adding to the Orbea Terra’s functionality their new 2025 Avant endurance bike is worth a look great geometry room for bigger tires aluminum frame and great price!
Battaglin Portofino G. Steel is real and this one is a work of art. With Campagnolo Super Record EPS 12 speed and Bora wheels and 30mm tires, mine weighs in at 8.6 kg and with carbon Levante gravel wheels and 39mm Ultradynamico tires, it’s 9.1 kg. It has dropped seatstays and decent aerodynamics for a steel bike and I don’t have problems keeping up with my mates.
Argon 18 Krypton Pro. Got it for 6+ day mountain climbing trips (which it excels at), days out doing adventures where can include gravel light if it looks interesting and multi-day bike packing light trips. Nothing but praise for it. Got the SRAM gears as it has a wider range, particularly at the low end, than the factory Shimano gears which only go up to 30 on the rear and are 52/36 on the front (which seems ridiculous for an all-road bike. Also SRAM gives slightly more wheel clearance.
FAIRLIGHT Faran, all day every day. I ride off-road, road and tours. My bike of choice for sure (I have a Strael and a Secan as well and they rarely get a look in these days....)
Compared to the vitus venon for example it has a steeper head tube angle, shorter wheelbase and lower stack height, this makes it more aggressive: more agile on the road but twitchier and less stable on gravel. It is capable on very light gravel but we think it fits more in the endurance road bike category than all road
Brother Cycles Stroma or Kepler, Salsa Journeyer or Salsa Midnight Special would be my general recommendations, though I think the best all road bike is the Sklar Super Something, just a beautiful bike frame .....Honourable mention to Sonder Camino and Cube Nu Road.
It looks in pictures like the Ridley has some extra mounts under the top tube for a frame bag, but havent seen one with a bag fitted? Assume it might be something they are going to release
The Road machine 01 X certainly looks intriguing, unfortunately without UK distribution it's unlikely we're going to be testing one any time soon, we will try and get the Time in!
Christ, am I just fucked out of luck if I want something less than $1000? The Specialized appears to be the only bike under $3k, and that's the cheapest in this category? What the hell. How can bicycling be so ludicrously inaccessible in the modern era?
This is a video about the BEST all-road bikes, not entry level bikes. You can get an older cyclocross bike for quite cheap and they work very well as all road bikes IMO.
@squngy0 I figured it would at least offer the best in different price brackets, not best with no price ceiling. I have no idea what to look for, as I'm completely new to the modern market. I only know a little about 80s-90s era. What makes an ATB vs road or others, over the last two decades?
@@WhiteVaille I think best of each price bracket is a great idea, but it is not usual for these sorts of videos. (most youtubers will make separate videos for each bracket) ATB is not a very common term and I am not familiar with it. Googling it, I would have called those bikes "hybrid bikes". Hybrid bikes are flat-bar bikes similar to a hard-tail MTB, but a lot less capable (and cheaper) than a full blown MTB. All-Road bikes (like in this video) are essentially road bikes (with drop-bars and no suspension) they are somewhere in the middle of gravel bikes and race bikes. They are great on the road and do OK on light gravel.
@@roadcc Looks like the potential new Synapse ridden by Lachlan Morton around Australia could be very much in the aero allroad category. Looks very much like the new Supersix, but on the vids I could spot internal frame storage and mudguard mounts....
32 mm is no problem on packed dirt roads. Look at the pros. They ride Strada Bianchi on aero bikes. Normal people can do that too. If you come from MTB and are used to the bike skidding a little bit without panicking even 25 mm is doable on hard packed dirt roads.
There are still quite a few bikes that can't fit 32mm, but you are right. I suspect pretty soon almost all bikes will be able to fit at least 32mm and then all-road will not make much sense as a category.
I’ll have to watch the video again, maybe I just missed it, but it seems you started out sharing prices for the bikes and then just stopped. There’s nothing in the notes either. It’s a lot just to slog through these videos without getting one of the most important pieces of data in my decision making process. I’m probably not going to do research elsewhere without an idea of cost. Nice looking bikes, though.
The UK roads are so shite that I haven't been on anything under a 35 in 5 years xxx
XC bike where I live! 😂
I moved to the UK and bought a gravel bike with 40s. Mine feels plenty fast and makes the UK roads enjoyable.
BMC Roadmachine is my all road bike and it's amazing. Comfortable but responsive.

Titus RoadRunner from Planet X. Titanium frame, 11spd sram force, good tyre clearance and relaxed geometry. Very versatile bikes. 👌😎
Ti or Steel only way to go.

you have not understand the topic. Allroadbikes are complete different to CX framesets. Inform yourself.

What a great Road & Gravel bike
2:21 Specialized Diverge SL8. Typo in description? should be Roubaix?
Was hoping to see the new Cube Nuroad C62 race. Possible review?
We've requested one but are yet to take delivery, fingers crossed a review is coming soon!
I've been eyeing that Orbea Terra for a while, but I wonder if they'll release a 2025 model year with UDH. Holding out still...
I’m 62 and never ride on gravel roads I just want a comfortable bike.
In holding out for an otso waheela. Most adjustable, modifiable gravel/road bike frame I can find.
Cervélo Caledonia-5 which got an update this year, or the Aspero with road tires?
Consider Fairlight?
Ordered a enve fray… you should have included in the bikes you tested, as well as the open upper
I'm loving my Enve Fray. Considering buying a second one.
Exactly! I got a Fray to replace my Trek Domane this year. The Fray is beyond amazing. The best bike I’ve ever owned.
I've always wanted a Giant Defy for road and light gravel. What does 'The geometry is suited more to the road' actually mean?

What happened to the Ribble All-road bike that featured several times in the intro...?
Didn’t make the cut
@@roadcc Interesting. Any specific reason?
@@squngy0 Second this, would love to know why it didn't make it!
I have the Vitus Venon and I use it on both road and gravel. I absolutely love it! Too bad the company went under…
It is very difficult to get a Vitus bike after Wiggle was collapsed. Is there anyway to buy it from anywhere in Asia?
Nothing on the new Ribble Allroad SLR?
Didn’t make the cut ✂️ Reviews appearing on the road.cc website soon
I’m surprised the time Adhx was not featured here
Where are the new BMC (All)Roadmachine and Time Alpe d’Huez X?
The Road machine 01 X certainly looks intriguing, unfortunately without UK distribution it's unlikely we're going to be testing one any time soon, we will try and get the Time in!
Should include the FARA All Road (F/AR) in this list
What purpose why chain stay are short
Shorter chainstays make a bike more agile and feel livelier, unfortunately they often have to be lengthened as tyre volume increases
Trek Domane?
Ribble GCR is a proper all road bike
Grifn RS = 42 mm regardless of 1x or 2x. On my shortlist 🎉
As casual rider, you should bike a gravel bike and buy a tyre with rolling resistance. You’ll thank me later.
0:15 DO NOT MIRROR THE VIDEO IT PUTS A DRIVETRAIN ON THE LEFT SIDE AND IAM GOING INSANE
2x CX bike with 2 wheel sets. 28c gp5k w/ 50mm wheels and 44c WTB byways tubeless.
CX is more road bike
Gravel is more entrance
Endurance*
What about the colnago c68 all road?
We've not had the chance to use one yet, we'll try and get one in
Very limited tire clearance on the C68
You guys are a marketers dream
Giant Contend AR1
How do you not even mention the Enve Fray?! How can you even reveal a favourite without considering the Fray. It is the gold standard. Please explain.
Genesis Datum 30. It was launched almost a decade ago and takes 38mm tyres. They should re-launch it.

There are plenty of bikes under 1k in your local classifieds, FB Marketplace, etc.
