It's so amazing I was fishing in long island with my nephew ! I was catching fish in a pretty big spot...A couple started fishing right on top of my line..Different bait will catch fish...You don't have to stay on top of another person fishing..Lots of room..

I just finished watching the 5th video in your Fluke Mastery Course (I think it was on fishing in 30'-40' depths). My biggest problem has always been locating fish, & in that video it was kind of like a light bulb went on & I think I finally GOT what you've occasionally hinted at or touched on in some of your free videos about that, HOORAY!
There's a lot of information in that course I've yet to cover, but it's got me excited about hitting the water. Thank you so much!
In THIS video, You said that if you didn't find any porgy along the contour line that you'd "try something else", can you give us some tips on what else to look for to find porgy? .
I would have moved off deeper. I was in about 30' here, and I know the partyboats often fish in 40-60' in this area. I'm very happy you're enjoying the online course!

If they still have a late season double limit trips on the Montauk party I’d rather do that no boat cleaning great action and you’re right too many to clean so only take what you’ll use for couple of days trust me you’ll get sick of porgie sandwiches,me I eat fluke since flounder don’t exist and bass=pcbs.
Maybe you can get a sponsorship (2-3 cans) from the infomercial guys who spray that rubber crud on a screen door then go canoeing on it.
Awesome video's. I've viewed a large portion of your production's and have learned allot. I'm in coastal NC and hope to find some fluke/flounder "honey holes" in my region. I'm rigging your set-up and hoping for better results.

John, great video as always. The part that resonated with me was the chumming. Man oh man, can’t tell you how many times that makes the difference between catching and not catching. Chumming and getting there before the fleet (I’m convinced) helps ensure you get some fish under your boat.
By the way, may I suggest a certain doctor (ok, really just a dentist) sponsor a boat for you :)
The BG is a great reel. I run the 2500 also for walleyes.

Gluvit that boat. From the bottom works. From the bottom and from the inside is better yet. I had an 18ft starcraft for years. Gluvit works well.

Hi John, I ordered 3oz porgy/blackfish jigs! I fish a lot on party boats ,will they be ok for inshore ocean spots on a party boat?
Was just fishing those waters today, went off the Angler Fleet im sure your familiar. Brought home a nice porgy and cooked him up.

Use a lure like a Gulp grub. black sea bass like them, porgies usually don't.

Hello John, as always you have great videos. I have a question about this boat. I do know you had to let it go and get crushed due to rot and rust holes, but my question is how was this boat converted into a semi-fiberglass boat with a center console. I have a 14ft aluminum boat and I'm thinking about how to take out the middle row and adding a center console without altering the structure integrity of the boat. Is this possible and do you have a shop you can recommend I go and talk to about doing such. Thanks
I did not do the conversion. That's way out of my skill set. I would definitely worry about the structural integrity of removing the middle seat.

@Skinner I'm 24 and love fishing I've been a surfcaster for a couple years now but I want to pick up a aluminium boat for porgy and fluke in the bays what size boat would I need for 2-3 people to fish somewhat comfortably and also what size (hp) motor would I need to get around the bays of Long Island? Also how much money would I need to save to get a roundabout for a boat motor trailer and fish finder if you were able to guesstimate a number?
UnitedGMV Start looking at 18 to 20 center console, 5,000 should be a boat in decent shape. Lots of extra cost like reg., insurance, anchor, coast guard required equipment.

Plenty of 14 to 16 foot aluminum boats out there that will fit your bill. 14 will work; 16 with a 25 to 40 hp will be a bit more comfortable on those 3 person days.

John, are you using your Penn reels much these days or did you switch over to Diawa?
No switch. It just happens that my smallest reels, a couple of 2500s, are Daiwa.
I do the same thing...I use my Penn tackle a lot but I also use Diawa and Shimano...It really depends where I`m fishing and what I`m fishing for.
Those porgys are larger than wells river fish.

When I fish for porgies I just use a paternoster rig with clams or porgies, I only use jigs tipped with squid or clams when I’m fishing for Black Sea bass

Absolutely! I catch them from the shore with this rig.

My smallest reels are Daiwas, so that's what I'm using at the moment. Nice reels for sure.

It's a very customized 1974 starcraft, maybe a holiday model. Someone else converted it to a center console. It suits me pretty well. It has the room of a bigger boat for sure. Not that I don't clutter it up anyway.

I’ve only been on party boat fishing and they usually recommend 6-10oz sinkers even if we are fishing in shallow waters, so I’m confused... what is the rule in rod, test line, and sinkers? Can I use light tackle? How do they have to pair up? (Sinker vs line vs rod vs reel). I e heard you say something about having 15lbs line for 1oz jigs... why?
The thin braided line allows you to fish much lighter payloads, which allows for much lighter and more enjoyable tackle.
