It’s funny how the tables have turned. Daniel was the underdog from Reseda California when I was a kid and now he’s the successful car salesman who kicks the competition. Johnny was the rich kid growing up and now he lives in the crappy apartment and is just trying to keep things together.

Shannon at this time was the only person that could make Johnny look like a great parent.
In all actuality looking back on it preparing for Season 6. As much as we admire and appreciate Johnny's growth, the reason for it having such meaning is due to where he came from initially. It's very Underrated fact but besides Robby himself and Daniel, Shannon is the other character in the entire series that had to put up with a lot of Johnny's issues. Remember they were willing to make it work initially but Johnny just wasn't ready and detached himself from her and their Kid.
A very strong reason why their interactions in this clip back in season 1 compared to how they are in season 5 is very meaningful with her telling him how proud age is of being a better person as well as cleaning up her own act after Rehab and not falling for Silver's attempt to buy her off. Something season 1 Shannon would of most likely did without much thought.

The writing in the first season was great. "There are no do-overs" applied to so many aspects of his life at that point. He could either take the challenge and rise to the occasion of accepting responsibility or crawl back to the sewer. It was fun watching his journey towards the former. The whole concept of making Johnny the underdog from the start was a great master stroke.
When did they ever say they were married? They just dated and she got pregnant with Robby!
In the gta verse: it’s Dutch who’s the main protagonist and not Johnny. Johnny is a happy married rich man with Ali and his own family. Daniel is married to Kumiko. Daniel did settle down in Okinawa but returned to Aquila. A fictional country based on the confederate states. Dutch had a spiral of bad luck. He was a drifter and met Elisa or by nickname “Shannon” and his friend Ryan. Who was Shannon’s boyfriend. Dutch had a family of his own but tragedy struck and were killed. He was a demon by then. But decided that him and Shannon were too hot in the road and had to settle in the Kamen Valley. And that’s where the series starts from there. Robby is more to Dutch as a pseudo nephew. But despite that, Shannon failed at parenting and Dutch wasn’t responsible for Robby as he is not his kid.

I feel like as a mother she should have been happy that Johnny even wanted to have a relationship with Robby. Some dads don’t even come around at all and Johnny is trying. He may have been gone for 16 years, but he was there trying to learn from his mistakes and actually be there for him.
