I've come back to this drama CD after a long time and wow, you can really see the depth of the dynamic between Nijimura and Akashi here. It wasn't simply a formal relationship between captain and vice captain, Nijimura literally kept Akashi grounded. Because for the entire manga/anime, Akashi is always treated as this godly figure/final boss that everyone is afraid of, but out of all of the players both past and present, Nijimura is the only one who doesn't fear or is unnerved by Akashi in some way. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Rather than regarding Akashi as someone who is high on a pedestal and inaccessible, Nijimura always treated him like a regular middle school kid. Because that's what he was. Yes, Akashi's slightly out of touch because his wealthy background meant he didn't partake in things like buying snacks at a convenience store and playing arcade games with friends (even more so because his father always gave him extra work to do at home), but rather than shame him for it, Nijimura takes the initiative to include him in these activities and spend time with him after school. I'd like to think that these memories of going to the convenience store with Nijimura probably meant more to Akashi than Nijimura knows. It's just a shame we didn't see more of this type of thing in the main story. The way that these drama CDs humanized Akashi would've gone a long way in people understanding his character more.
Nijimura was basically the one who kept the whole GoM grounded if we're honest. I doubt the last year in middle school would have been the same if he was still here. He would have beaten everyone up (minus Kuroko) if he saw their behaviour.
@hpthfiction I like to think that, but Sanada really started a chain reaction with telling Aomine he didn't have to come to practice, and by that time, Nijimura had long graduated so who knows.
@@daezyagbakoba6694True so who knows how it would have been in the end. But considering for the little time Nijimura was on screen and with this drama CD, he became one of my favorites, he really deserved far more credits.
I was moved by how relatable Nijimura was to Haizaki's position. Behind his very firm attitude, it turns out he is a senior/senpai who understands Haizaki's feeling even though Haizaki covers up that side of him 😢🫠 (well he's really tsundere boy😅)
