"Were you there when the asteroids were made, holding god's hand?" I've watched this episode countless times and I can't believe I'm only now realising Susan was referencing when an 11 year old Sandi was holding Neil Armstrong's secretary's hand during the moon landing.
I remember hearing that, when we look into space at a star, we're seeing it as it was thousands of year ago. My question is, what would the earth look like, to the star, at that time? Wouldn't it be something to be able to see earth, during the time it was forming. Love QI. It was one of the first British shows I watched and I fell in love with your less censored comedy. Here in the states, they're still tight assed about some stuff. Thanks for sharing.
To a star thousands -or indeed millions of years ago - the earth would be visually indistinguishable from our sun which would be just another faint star -and not terribly impressive. Cultural quirks like any other, I suppose. Sometimes annoying. Sometimes neutral. Occasionally amusing. Often baffling
@@jeeshadow that’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard in months… It’s essentially impossible to get to the earth’s core for a huge variety of reasons, and we’ve already sent probes and rovers to other planets.
To that planet yes, but alien to us. That’s why we say that. It’s not an insult. Relax. If you want to be extremely correct don’t call them anything until they can tell you what they want.
I stepped into quicksand and our backyard in Kentucky when I was just finishing up Elementary School lucky for me it was not deep. I remembered what to do but it was very shocking. Kentucky is also riddled with caves and I'm surprised there's have not been more sinkholes but the caves in Kentucky have very solid walls
This was one of the better episodes. LOTS of Laughs. Good Deep Belly Tumblers full of chortles and gaw-faw's . Intelligent Comedy for the discerning telly addict. I love that Marvin got 42 points.
Nope. The original poster is correct. It’s from Čapek’s play R.U.R. - “Rossumovi Univerzálí Roboti,” which means “Rossum’s Universal Robots.” In Czech, the word is “roboti,” but it is the origin of the word robot. The play came out in 1920, the year Asimov was born. It wasn’t Asimov.
Why do people who think we haven't gone to the moon. Also seem to believe that aliens have visited us? Yes alien can Cross space and find our tiny spec of a planet. But we can't send humans to the Moon?
By the time of Apollo 11 the quicksand idea was long discarded or only a very niche thing. Both US and USSR had softlanded probes on the Moon before. The very first image Surveyor one recorded (tv broadcasts are on youtube) was straight down at it's landing leg to see if it had sunk. It hadn't. And for the size and weight of the LM the landing legs "feet" were not that large.
OK one of the instruments on Voyager was built at the UofIowa. The graduate student responsible for coating the instrument in some vacuum-protective shellack reported years later that he'd embedded a fragment of fingernail clipping in the resin. So he's technically going to be the first to leave the solar system?
Lmao ETs haven't bothered with us. We still believe in fake powers created by men... and fight wars over it.😂"Might be a bear in there"😂😂Susan sighing and that look... 😂😂😂 too funny
I adore this episode! But to be pedantic for a moment lol, the mini-skirt bit bugs me. Because even if it was only named for the Mini Cooper, the Mini Cooper got its name from being small, which means the mini-skirt really did as well.
That was not pedantic at all. That was just incorrect. And it was a sign you either did not understand or just rejected the explanation even after repeating it in your statement.
Hilarious episode!.. They got it wrong about hearing in space. What they describe is hearing i the atmosphere, transdused by two layers of glass. No space in that equation 🙂 By same logic, the earth is in space and the therm "in space" would have no meaning
9:00 .. If we show up to another planet & see an "alien" ... ( technically - we are the "alien" on 'THEIR PLANET ) ... so - if I encountered another HUMAN - I would wanto to create a beer brewery - get drunk & do stupid stuff with my best friends.

I love when Susan seamlessly takes over. Such a good episode.
Yes, one of my favourites (actually, I love all the Susan Calman episodes - she's hilarious - but this one was a treat!)
genuinely love this episode, it makes me so happy when they all start singing :D
Without a doubt one of the greatest moments I've ever seen on this show
This is one of the best episodes ever, I’d say. It’s absolutely perfect!
Sandy has done such an amazing job taking over since Stephen Fry. I'm an American who is obsessed with QI. It's so much fun!
Cool man happy you enjoy it too.❤❤❤

One of the best episodes ever!
Susan Calman is a hoot!!
I just love Holly at 35:48 saying, “Can *I* have a present?!” 😂
The part where they are singing gets me EVERY time!!
Sandi reprimanding the audience. Comedy Gold.
40:25 Is where they start singing.
Gosh, I adore Susan Calman, she is just so sweet all throughout.
Yes, Susan Calman can become a bit of an obsession. She's so tiny it tricks one into believing she can just be packed to go with you at all times 😅
Best episode I’ve ever seen.
I love this show.
still no idea why they didn't put Holly into a Red Dwarf costume. she'd have made a great Holly.
What is going on with this recording . Every time Sandy or Susan turn sideways I can't see them 🤔🤣

This particular show is in my top 10.
If we went to another planet and found life, we would be the alien, not them. We would find native species.
We have better chance of reaching the Earth's core than ever visiting another planet.

Best argument for it being legit is that the USSR didn't deny it, despite having every advantage in disproving it
@whispersmith they were our rivals and not one russian has said we didn't go.
People think that because large number of people are compete idiots.
Both come from the same place: a general disbelief in science and a mistrust of authority.
