I think what I like most about this one is how it starts out with We All Lift Together being louder, then For Narmer drowns it out before it rises back to equal it’s opposite.
Exemplifies the threat of Ballas War for Control creeping into the Origin System like a poison. Killing you before you knew it, he’d already won with no hand of the void being able to lay a finger on him.
This is an excellent narrative concept. The heroes lose, major consequences emerge. Places where hope was strong become corrupted and scattered. For Narmer even acknowledges what Fortuna once was.
Hearing the chorus together, makes this much more emotional. I mean when I first heard Narmer I practically cried. This just adds more power. It's like, even if they are under control, they are still fighting.
You know they 100% planned out that chorus overlap, especially with what the New War story was leading towards in the end "For we're all one//And we all lift, and the work's begun//and we're all adrift together, for Narmer//together, and we all run//through the cold mist, to our golden son//till we're lifeless together, for Narmer//together". *spoiler* If you don't know/ forgot/ didn't hear/ etc, Narmer was going to sacrifice the whole solar system in the end, and all living beings in it
This was a _haunting_ juxtaposition when I first heard it in-game. And I know it's "just a game". I know it's not real. And it isn't even followed up on, making the entire sequence just padding! And yet! To see a people like the Solaris reduced to mindless slaves? That hurt more than the Ostron, to be frank! The Ostron only really need a few key figures and The Unum. They'll get by. The Solaris worked _so hard_ to break the chains placed on them by Nef Anyo and The Corpus. To see their ultimate failure legitimately made me both sad and furious. It made the fight against Ballas _even more personal_ to me.
honestly i think it would have improved the scene if it was just a slow walk through fortuna, to really let you take in what narmer's done without those goddamn deacons
These songs may have both been playing in the Vox Solaris' heads as they fought the Veil. For Narmer eventually drowning out We All Lift could show the veil winning.
@haikarawalker6996 for once, the people of the origin system all fought a common foe, but it could never be enough. Only the tenno were ever able to truly counter the Sentients. We were the last line of defense. When we fell, that was it.
I see people talking about how the choruses sync up perfectly (which they do) but there's something else I noticed. Look specifically at the lines in the verses to We All Lift where they don't sync "Hard, the land we call our home" "Feel the weight of what we owe" "To hide the heart of who we are" "Strong, united, working 'til we fall" In Ballas' version of Fortuna, they have no home, no debt, no need to hide, and no need to unite. Those are the four things that all of Fortuna experienced, whether they were part of Solaris or not, and I think those lines being the ones sung alone when the songs overlap is a deliberate choice.
I know I'm a year late, but I think the same deliberation went into Ballas' name directly overlapping "daughters", in the "sons and daighters" line as Natah is the great Sentient daughter of Hunhow, and he doesn't like the children.
it really does- honestly my favorite parts are the ones where the solaris' lines come almost directly after narmer's- almost like a sarcastic, defiant reply. especially when the solaris lyrics come back
God, the contrast of a united beehive of a community and a bunch of broken people in despair who sing at paces so different yet so sychronised, the break of syncronised singing at chorus just so they can recover it at "together/for narmer" part. It gives me goosebumps. The mashup is great and DE def knew what they were doing when making the songs.
The lyrics mixing must have been intentional We were all for one And we all lift Now the works begun And we're all adrift For Narmer (Together, Together) The composer had planned this years before
It was so insane when I went into fortuna. It showed how powerful the narmer is. After the quest, if you go to eudico she talks about the idea that they put in their minds was likeable. Just crazy man.
Good at a third of tge way through the way that the songs truly sync in such a beautiful way that its nearly impossible to believe we all lift was not structured with for narmer in mind. God DE's sound/music team are truly something else.
Hearing For Narmer for the first time made me tear up. The people of Fortuna and their struggle was what really drew me to the game at first, before the main plot really took off, and hearing the perversion of their song, as well as the visuals when you arrive, was honestly painful.
*spoilers* it's a very nicely made juxstapostion for a lot of reasons, people have pointed out parallels like how in we all lift together the singing is somewhat out of sync and the main singer changes, this gives the sense of community and togetherness in a group - the population banding together against a greater threat, in for Narmer the singing is entirely synchronised and everyone is put in line which reflects the total control forced upon the now willingly obedient population. i also love the chorus sounding like a back and forth battle between freedom and total enslavement, which when followed by the silence of we all lift together truly lets you know that we lost. this was definitely the big "we lost" realisation for most people, we went to fortuna hoping for a rebellion fighting for freedom like we're used to, but no... this was driven home when we found the ventkids veiled too
Once, while New War was hype, I looked up the lyrics for 'For Narmer' without knowing the notes. It ended up just being the lyrics of 'For Narmer' with the notes of 'We All Lift Together'
Omg this is incredible. Even there is a part slightly out of sync (but that is how the songs are made) that felt a little off. Omg. The refrain when there voices don't overlay most of the time. Aaaahhhh. Why didn't I know this exists until now
We were all for one And we all lift Now the work's begun And we're all adrift For Narmer Together And we all Run Through the cold mist To our golden son Till we're lifeless Together For Narmer
Very well done, and an interesting idea. I had never thought of looking at the lyrics of the songs together like that. Its interesting that they seem to link up like that, as if the songs are part of a larger musical piece that is being written by the events happening.
I like how after the pause of we all lift together, it starts growing in volume and bass, like it's giving the people hope and another chance at freedom
I knew the songs were good parallels of each other, but hearing them side be side adds greater appreciation to the composition of For Narmer. I wonder if the writers wanted this level compatibility from the start, or if it was a happy coincidence.
It is really interesting how when they are played together, the pauses in the songs line up so that they alternate lines, to give the impression that they are fighting
When I heard this song while I was coming to Fortuna made me go like NO! NO! NO! and I was very surprised that the Solaris has been enslaved so easily and the mission was annoying as hell because of those deacons so I took it personal when I was fighting Ballas
It's incredible how contrasting and at the same time suitable these songs are. In "We are lift together" the voices sing together, and the only musical accompaniment is the sounds hammer blows and other sounds of the work. In "For Narmеr" the voices are perfectly synchronized and singing in harmony because of the Veil and there are no sounds of work, as if Fortune had stopped to pray to her new master, which makes it more depressing. And of course, in one song they work for their future, and in the second - for Narmer. But despite all this, together they complement each other perfectly. I perceive this as an attempt by the old Fortune shout into the emptiness of new harmony.
You can listen "We all lift together" again. If you approach one of the guys that hammer those platforms above the water/coolant/???, you can interact with him and it will play the video. IDK about "For Narmer" though cause i didn't complete the new war.
I like to imagine that while they were making We All Lift, they planned For Narmer right after and the devs just wait anxiously for the New War to release. It fits SO well, especially in "And we all run.. through the cold mist... To the Golden Son... Till We're Lifeless.... For Narmer.. Together". It's as if they are fighting back, always getting the last word(They always say it second).
I have compared and still do compare vox solaris to australia so much, and as an Australian, when I got to this part of the quest, the personal vendetta and just pure rage towards Ballas made the end of the quest feel so god damn gratifying to me, I know most people would find this strange as most people think "it's just a game," but still. I have a lot of personal attachment to the characters in this game. And seeing them suffer made me want to do even more to make Ballas suffer in return. Justice For The Origin System.
Fight against the dark with hope, or lose yourself to what is inevitable. Fortuna has fallen, but we shall grasp it's outreaching hand, hold it tight, and pull the Solarians from their veiled shackles.
The paradox of Narmer is that it's entirely collective, to the point of erasing any individuality - any member is just a replaceable pawn for Ballas. But for its members, it's the opposite - it's a completely individual exisence where they are isolated from the world and only see what the Veil allows them to see. Where the Solari strive for true indipendence and individuality, Narmer gave them a form of virtual indipendence which in reality is complete, inescapable unity.
They triumphed partially over corpus… so they dodged a bullet but got hit with the rocket propelled grenade with the super advanced alien race that just completely crushed them.
Honestly, I think the choice in chorus between the two songs is really apparent between the different versions of Fortuna in juxtaposition to one another. In We All Lift Together, the chorus is somewhat unharmonized and the note is far more baritone/heavy, it gives the song a scrappy/surly sensation. Versus For Narmer, which is totally harmonized as-if to denote the total domination that Ballas has over the Solaris and essentially stripped of the hardship that made them well...them lol to pair with that, the chorus is far more angelic and tenor, almost like the Kubrick smile where it's just almost normal yet something is still inherently wrong when you see/hear it (an example being Dr. Entrati's smile). The timing of the two songs fitting like a jigsaw puzzle, and hearing the two side-by-side is only more unsettling in The New War's context is also very well done lol great edit
