At my age 81 I grew up listening to Bob Will's and the Texas Playboy's. Love the Playboy's music I made a comment on Leon McAuliffe I said there is no one that could take it away like Leon

Back in the mid 50's when I was trying to get started in music, our band played on Friday & Saturday nights in a place called the "Wagonwheel Danceland" a couple of miles from the Arkansas/Oklahoma State Line, on US Highway 70. We would usually get fifty or sixty folks to pay a dollar admission and they would sit (while not dancing) on a bench which ran completely around the outer wall, except where the large bandstand was. There was probably 300 feet of benches. The first time I saw Bob Wills & his Texas Playboys was at the Wagonwheel in 1955 & they had more than 500 guests, at five bucks a head. The bandstand, which looked empty when our five piece band played was filled with instruments, which ONE GUY TUNED, including the old piano. Well, when Bob Stomped his heel on the floor as he approached a microphone, that band came alive with an electrifying charge which seemed to jolt every person in the room. It was almost like everyone was suddenly awakened to dance, even though there was no room. I had heard Bob's music on radio & jukeboxes but when I heard them live, I knew their music would be a part of me for life. Thank you for posting, thank you so much.

Bob and his incredible band had an impact on us all, and to read your comments make his impact on my love for his music even greater.

There was a bar in our small town not 100 yds. from my bedroom window. I went to sleep every Friday and Saturday night listening to this music played by the local band. God bless you for bringing back some of my childhood.

    Hello James,
Just wanted to thank you for posting these old videos. I worked for a country music show in Branson for thirty two years. Got to see your uncle Eldon and Leon R. at the Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas one time. They were playing so good and sadly there was only about fifteen people in the audience. I live about ten minutes from the tow that Rouse is from. I still play a couple times a month with a six piece band and we always start the sets with a Bob Wills classic. Love the old stuff so much.....

Exímios instrumentistas, de rara musicabilidade e beleza, do mesmo modo o modo de interpretar os seus temas. maneco - Porto Aelegre-RS -Brasil.

I believe you'd be a lot more popular remembering that 1960's pop & rock artists studied the texas playboys, the sons of the pioneers and Gene Autry for fundimentals AND longevity; so? new bands sti) do too.

I've been a "fan" of these musical monsters for more than 50 year's of my 71 now ...my dad made me hip to them in the early 80's... in a simple conversation he said if you like that ...(Album called merle haggard and the strangers totally instrumental.)
      .you must listen to the
Texas Playboys . Found a cassette in an Erie PA truck stop called Texas Playboy's greatest hits... 200k road miles later ( I was a crash mechanic who traveled to 15 branches of a small corporation)
it still rocks my spirits. Thanks dad... and all the playboys.
