Clearwater beaches were likely not packed because there was no swim alert due to bacteria issues on Thursday. It was lifted later in the day on Friday.
I'm sure that played a roll in it, Janis. I didn't even know about the no-swim alert when I was out filming, but found out about it later in the day when I got home. Good to hear it's been lifted though.
Thanks for sharing, I Love Clearwater Beach and lived in Indian Rock and worked in Clearwater many, many years ago. Have not been there in ten years, and miss the place. When did they put up this iron fence that separates the road. When you start to go over the bridge to Sand Key @ 4 : 12 there was a Hilton Hotel on the right that my wife and I had our Honeymoon. I think it was torn down years ago. Starting in 1985 we would come to Clearwater Beach for the next 10 years and stay at the Holiday Inn almost next to Shephards. Got to know those people that worked there and they treated us Vey Well. When I was working in town and on my way home to Indian Rock there was Nothing on Sand Key but sand and tree. They had car bumper stickers that said "Save Sand Key". ❤Funny how it has all grown up. We have not been there in 10 years, because of family members getting older. That is soon to change, Thanks for sharing this video, It means alot to us !!!❤❤❤
Thanks so much for sharing your story, Stanley! So interesting to hear about how much Sand Key has changed in such a short period of time. It's great to hear that you have plans to make a return trip to the area sometime soon.
Thanks for such wonderful news. We love to vacation on the Gulf Coast of Florida at least twice a year. We went to Clearwater Beach in March and it was absolutely beautiful. We are so glad that Restaurants like Palm Pavilion and Frenchy's were open and no damage after the Hurricane. Keep on doing the videos. Everyone should experience the Gulf side of Florida. Enjoy all your Travels ! ❤
We agree 100% that everyone should experience the Gulf side of Florida. We hope our channel helps those who can't experience it in person to at least somewhat experience it for themselves. We will definitely keep the videos coming as long as you keep watching them 😀
Wow, I can't believe how resilient Florida and its population are! It looks as amazing as ever, although I'm sure a lot of work has been carried out to clear away debris in the meantime. Many thanks for showing, its always great to view the beaches from afar. I can't believe how perfect the place appears so soon after the hurricane. 👍👍
It really is quite amazing how resilient Floridians area. There were definitely plenty of people out trying to get the beaches looking good (and quickly) before the holiday weekend. They did a great job of it.
oh pshaw, yall outsiders literally think everything here is made of paper and straw and we're a bunch of yokels or something. You have very little understanding of engineering, money, and common sense sustainability. Think of Venice and the complex woodworks built in LITERAL MUD during the 1500s beneath the city to keep it from sinking and how centuries of fantastic intelligence in Netherlands the "land of dykes" created so many waterworks along the low lying coast. I wish people thought more of us floridians, it really drives me crazy, my hubby and I laugh about this all the time lol. Florida will always stand even if we're just an archipelago of islands hundreds of years in the future.
there wasnt all that much debris here in our are btw, most of it was done by the city workers, and local homeowners if it affected their homes. remember, we also have a robust government here as well as loads of $$$ pouring in constantly. ymmv lol
Miss this place! unfortunately, haven't been able to get back ,in almost 8 years.... Was so worried the damage, and alot of the beach, would be obliterated... My Happy place. Thank you for your videos. I live in largo. I watch all your videos and sometimes I even learn of new things in the st Pete area I did not know about or simply forgot about. So thank you for your videos. Looking forward to your next video.
Phenomenal video. You need to submit it to the local news channels and get the word out the beaches are wide open,,,, maybe Tuesday. Great weekend for your local dedicated beach fan followers. As much as I love Jamie’s melodic voice coming out of my TV every weekend, I think it might be time she hands you a bigger script. You did a great job narrating these 3 videos.
Thanks, Bob. Thankfully the videos really got pushed in Google search, and we've gained by far more views and subscribers in the last 5 days than in any 5-day period prior. Even though there wasn't a whole lot of damage, people seem to just want to see that everything is alright, and I'm happy that we were able to show them that it was. It's good to know my in the car narration is tolerable. I know I won't be landing any voiceover gigs, but this gives me confidence that I can do it when I have to.
Thanks very much for all the updates. The beaches look wonderful as always. A big thank you for the update on Ma Huffers too, glad to see it is definitely still open 🎉 Appreciate the videos.
Thanks guys and I’m glad things are looking great. Once I’m done with nursing school St Pete will be my next home that’s why I appreciate you👌. Stay safe and thanks again for all you do
I’m glad to see there wasn’t much damage around the beach towns of Tampa. Wish I was there. It looks like it would be a good weekend to go to the beach. Looks like a lot of people stayed home.
Yes, it looked like a great weekend to be on the beach. I'm not sure we'll have another chance to experience Labor Day weekend in Clearwater with that few of people again!
Hey guys, great channel. An idea to explore is St. Pete’s walkability score for the downtown. This is getting to be quite a trend and a lot of folks do not realize St. Pete’s potential to gain a high walkable urban score comparable to New York, Philly, and Montreal. We also need to get the city to think about blocking off Central every Friday and more than just one block. Eventually Central school be blocked off most of the time and turn it into a shopping street. I’d be interested in hearing your feedback on this, as well.
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to share your idea. We agree that the city definitely has potential for a high walkability score. We walk all over downtown St. Pete and generally enjoy it, at least when it's not summertime. Central Ave is kind of a free for all at this point anyway. I hate driving down it, because it's always full of bikes and scooters that aren't following any sort of traffic laws. If they aren't going to enforce any traffic laws on it, they might as well make it pedestrian only. Personally we would love to see no vehicles on the downtown area of Central (maybe all the way to the Grand Central), with designated lanes for walkers, cyclists, and e-bikes/scooters. Taking away cars should leave plenty of space for each to have their own lanes.
honestly i think this all the time!!!!! im from nyc originally and st pete is very walkable/bike-friendly to me!!! Im also surprised ppl don't discuss this more..then again...yeah i dunno...shssshh...we have alligators and meth!! stay away it's awful here!! really, I swear! ;P sssssh lol, keep out the hordes, please!!
Wow! I can't believe how empty and beautiful Clearwater Beach is after the storm. Incredible! I'm very glad the damage doesn't look too bad there! We're heading to Orlando next week to visit the mouse! I don't know if we'll have time to head down to St. Pete, but I'll let you guys know on the gram if we do. Are y'all in town September 11-18th?
It really was ridiculously empty. It's always a beautiful beach, but to me it looks a little nicer when it's not full of people. That's awesome to hear you guys are going to be in Florida! We'll probably be out filming somewhere the 16th/17th... possibly locally, possibly not. But we do expect to be around St. Pete from the 11th through 15th. If you do end up making it to our area, let us know (explorcationblog@gmail.com). It would be so great to finally meet up with you guys after getting to know you over the last few years!

We haven't hit the beaches yet, but here in Lutz we only got moderate winds and some rain. There was a little flooding in the streets, mainly around the sewers that wasn't cleared. But it quickly went down after the rains.
Thanks for checking on these beaches. You mentioned stopping at Sand Key but I did not see any thing on that one in this video. I saw a post from someone on Thursday that the surge was all the way up to the Sheraton. Has the water receded?

Yeah, you sure do hear a lot about the area being protected by the burial grounds. It's as good of an explanation as any we've heard! Thanks for taking the time to comment, Noelle.
The dunes have definitely been significantly eroded in IRB. Prior to the storm, they were rounded and the beach sloped gently towards the gulf. It wasn't super wide, but we always had open beach. After the storm, the dunes appear chopped off and the beach is much lower and flatter. In fact, we have more beach than before at low tide. But high tide comes right up to the dunes, the tops of which are now four feet or more higher than the beach. It's still pretty and there are plenty of people on the beach most times, but at high tide, there's not much room to sit and sunbathe. Our walkway will be closed for months. The dunes certainly protected our condo, which is beside the beach access on 22nd Ave, IRB.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share this information, Charles. We're glad to hear that the dunes protected our condo. We hope your walkway gets re-built sooner than later.
